So i recently got my first merit point (i know, only 1) but i was looking on where i could put my merits, and i'm not sure where to put them. for red mage specific, i'm planning on meriting 5/5 convert. i didn't really see a point to meriting elemental accuracys, because after i merit convert, i'm gonna merit some into enfeeb and elemental which would apply to all elemental types. after that it's kind of up in the air, but probably mnd, and then mp last. any suggestions/insight would be awesome! thanks.

Always going to be your call on exactly what you are going to need.

From a purely RDM perspective,

Enfeebling Skill
Elemental Accuracy (spread between the major spells you NEED to land eg Wind, Earth, Ice in particular)
MP (unless you're a Taru, then maybe HP)

...are good areas to start. Convert will give you a little more MP if you're struggling, and if you normally /BLM, and you really need to use most of the 5 available merits to make it worthwhile.

After that it really depends on what you like doing with your time. Sword/Dagger skills or if you solo mellee a lot or -enm for HNM stuff. INT and MND would be pretty hardcore with a lot of merits for minimal advantages.

A lot really depends on how you play, and what you plan to do with RDM at 75 though...

i say do Thunder Acc and Blizzard Acc, after the convert +5. Other stats, Enfeeble and Element~

why thunder Teppo? :\ we aren't BLMs D: it's not potency :P

that's a good question, and i'd have to say that it depends on how you play.

my plan is full enfeebling, then to rdm specific: 10pts (all 6 elemental accuracies X1, ConvertX3 (9min recast), and 1 additional to wind accuracy for gravity/silence)

not really sure what i'll do after that, or if i'll stick to that plan. that'll take a lot of exp to get done >.>

I did enfeb magic first, then put 5 in wind acc. reason wind acc because gavity and silence are major spells. Then mp and hp is nice. Would not do enm + or - because it will mess up other jobs not to mension with this new claim rule -enm not good.

/slap all other RDms that have posted and a <<Double Slap>> for Ele. First concentration should be MP or Enfeebling Magic. Then 5 for Ice and Wind Magic Accuracy and then do your weapons how you want. Meriting into Convert is the biggest waste of merit points. OOOO BOY GEE GOLLY, I can convert a WHOLE extra minute /em wets pants. The accuracy into spells is the better bet. Ice for paraylze and Bind and Wind for Gravity and Silence. Rest are ehh and you'll hardly cast them more then these spells. MP is good for a lot of jobs, WHM BLM SMN PLD and RDM and IF soloing and subbing WHM or RDM the lil extra MP can help. Stat wise, I was prob going to merit STR, since its better for more jobs. Whatever you put those into is more for your personal playing habits as well as weapons and others.

ya i would agree with this if you running out of mp a minut early you have a mp problem. would recomend eva+ and crit hit vs mob as well

might take a bit but think of a war x 4 brd rdm cannon in sky you can hit over 12k a hour whats 1 merit a hour and a 6th extra every 5 hours so only take like 8-9 hours to get 10 merit points but then does cost more each point you lv it so probally be like 14hrs-16hrs or something whats like 1-2weeks exping 1hr a day lol

I'm surprised there are no Merits for Refresh potency or how long it lasts...

; ;
its 1 spell it does not make a rdm a rdm for 1 spell its a big role but not the main thing if they where rather like dispell, haste, slow etc be able to be merited not refresh

Your not a RDm so please GTFO with your nonRDM exp. IF we could merit Refresh I would do it. Just think for once, IF we could make it stick longer, we'd have more time to do other stuff and not have to worry about the Refresh cycle every minute. So until you have RDM lvled or good info, 'cause your just lacking and post counting as of now, GTFO of this discussion.

omg Blazn I want that outfit for Windy.. XD nice avatar

and actually, making Rdm Refresh up to like 5mp/tick would be nice.. Right now? BArd's are better than rdm in almost every single way... brd + nin handle some debuff (para, blind, slow) as well as aoe refresh AND melee bufffs.. only thing they lose is Silence and Gravity.. which a good whm cansilence.. Gravity can be done without... Rdm may be solo masters at 75/nin but in a pt we're lacking right now :/

shai i got the .dat file if you want this for your rdm af body pm me if u want it, got 2.21gig of data files lol if want zip it and u can check more out got tons :)

Have you ever had a roaming party at 75? RDMs never lack party invites and we never lack in parties. A good RDM can out last any WHM in a roaming party 'cause of Convert and Self Refresh while the BRD is out pulling for a bigger chain. Levels 50-70 our debuffs work very well versus most monsters, espically Dispel, which no job can get til 64 or 68 (been awhile since I've played forgot level you learn Dispel). Dispel works against most mobs that are experienced off of. At 64, with WHM leveled and all spells bought, we can start to replace WHMs as main healers. Even not as main healers, we can be very good back up healers. Our Barfiras, Barthundara (as /WHM), has the potential to be stronger then any WHMs and lets us toss up the Barfiras when fighting against Goblins and allow the WHM to keep on curing. Only real advantage WHMs have over us RDMs is stronger Protects and Shells in the -ga forms. Cure V, Raise II and III and higher Regens. So a resourceful RDM never lacks in stuff to do in a party. And IF your one of those RDMs that just sit there and spam Refresh and worry about when to restart it again, please find another job to get to 75, 'cause getting RDM to 75 just to solo stuff isn't going to be all its cracked up to be.

lol, thanks for the reminder.. I leveled Rdm, I'm done for now. I'll pop it the last 11 levels when my sky LS needs it more than it needs me as WHM.

Bard has dispel.

Yes, we can backup heal.. I've never had to but it is a viable option.. yes our debuffs are good.. according to everyone I've asked however, Nin debuffs are better... we have ONE unique spell.. Gravity.

Just sayin it'd be nice to be able to be more useful than another job in some area. As it stands.. Brd > Rdm

brd was made to debuff and buff
rdm was made to do some blm tasks some whm some buffing and some debuffing lol its a hybrid

I'm going all-out in MP and enfeeble.

As for RDM specific ones, I go 5xwind and 5xice. That is because ti benefits both end-game events and soloing. While soloing Gravity and Bind are vital, so ice and wind accuracy helps with that. It also helps for Silence (on gods etc.) , Gravity, and Bind (I've even bound Suzaku).

for Combat, I'm doing sword and evasion skill. Sword also benefits my BLU, so that might be one of the reasons XD but Evasion benefits all jobs to some extent, and even though I only have three merits in evasion, I notice a huge difference.

For others, I'm doing spell interruption rate. It helps more then people might think, both in Ballista, solo, events (in case you get aggro, or need to cast sleepga in Dynamis), and also to reduce the chance you get paralyzed (not that it'll land, but the chance it'll kick in).

Personally, I refuse to put merits in enmity, as it can seriously screw up other jobs (-enmity merits will screw NIN and PLD up, +enmity will screw mage jobs up).

As for stats, I'm not sure. I will probably put those 50/50 in INT and MND.

I think this is rather funny, if it takes more than one job to out do all of rdms aspects then doesn't it mean that rdm brings more to the pt than one job alone?
