"Reputation" button.

If you don't see it, you don't have any reputation.

I'll give you some so you can see what it's like.

edit: Even made it good reputation despite you calling me an idiot for no reason in the burning circle not 20 minutes ago.
 
Did the rep system get reset or something? all my comments are gone.

So I've noticed a trend based on today's reputation features and before we started with a "clean slate".

ONLY people that are left with their foots in their mouths and have nothing left to say publicly, and cannot take ownership of their comments by sending a PM or handling an issue in an adult fashion, are the ones that end up using the reputation button as a way to "get back" at someone.

Y'all probably realize (oh wait, maybe YOU don't) that you reap what you sow. This feature would be nice if it provided the community with anything positive. It continues to suck, horribly. Please remove the thing completely or reinstate the "Thanks" feature. At least that one promoted supporting others rather than cheap shots...And you left your name as a mark of your testimony. Nobody hiding like cowards.

We already have a way to report a bad post as a way to bitch and moan. Why do we need a way for sore losers to take anonymous cheap shots?

Agreed about the thanks button. And I have yet to see people actually embrace the rep feature. All I see is people that hate it, or otherwise express a mild indifference. Nobody seems to really like it.

My bottom line is that it's a gateway for behavior that deserves a smack. Yet it exists and serves no other purpose.

"Report" takes care of the issues to complain about.
"Thanks" took care of the things to praise.

The rep feature is somewhere in limbo, and the thing it manages to accomplish the most is it provides a method to allow anonymous BS from people that feel sore after a discussion takes place publicly to exact a little "revenge".

Coming from a vengeful S.O.B., why not just use the "report" button?
Oh that's right...Because if you were to actually report those things, the Mods and Admin would just laugh at you and tell you to grow up.


The rep button is a poor way to field complaints, and it's not as good as the thanks button for giving kudos either.

I think there was a post earlier when people were happy when the thanks option was removed. I may just be remember random things though ;x

DD - I'm sure you're being sarcastic, but I have to say, there are plenty of other places on the forum to do that.

Tyrath - You're right. The thanks button always seemed to be the lesser of two evils. What I said was I think we should get rid of the rep feature (because it is just a problem), and if it must be replaced, the thanks button would be a more acceptable feature. I'd rather have nothing than have the rep button, but I could live with the thanks button.
 
Reputation button is used by people to scared to speak up. It would seem to be somewhat effective if it forced people to have to sign it. But when a person doesn't even need to sign it, it makes it into a coward's first means of proctecting his image from looking like a complete idiot, and whens it's used to put a mean comment on someone it's almost always a direct flame. I personally like the rep button but only if it will force people to sign it otherwise it's just pathetic in my opinion or make a way to be able to respond to that person.

That's what was good about the Thanks button. It left a name, and was not anonymous. Also it promoted good spirits...A thank you and suppoort for a post. The rep feature, especially the anonymous factor of it, promotes bad and underhanded comments. In my experiences, someone uses it only when they don't like something that was said (which was never MODed in any way, mind you) in a thread. It ends up being a vehicle for communication that doesn't even need to take place to begin with. The comments I have gotten are retaliatory, at best, and serve no purpose but to agitate. Where's the PMs with your opinions and names signed to it, fuckers? Where's the commentary in the threads you don't like, wimps? Jesus H.
Instead I just see some pussified, cowering comment in my user CP every now and again. Ignore it? I could, but it's clear from the first go, as well as the clean slate new beginning we have now, that people will only continue to do things with it that weren't intended.
 
I guess I can rest assured that if I get something good or bad from you, Shaun, that I'll at least know it was from you. :)

I agree the "come backs" are far from that, and only prove just how dumb the person is. Yet it doesn't make me feel good. I'd really just rather not have to even deal with these annoying people at all. This feature just gives them the capacity to suck even more than they normally do.

This is one of the reps I got recently. It's not signed but I'll bet that it was Kire that left it. If it wasn't him, damn I feel for your grasp of the english language.
