Requiem for a Flameboard

Haven't read the majority of the enusing posts, but in response to the original post... Well put sir, well put.

I guess that is where I had the misconception then. I believed that there was a respect for freedom of speech and that is why there was a flameboard. Apparently I was wrong and I guess that is why I feel so cheated. I was giving credit to something that didn't deserve it. Thanks for your correction, I guess my feedback is totally unneccessary and unneeded under that presumption.

When people abuse privileges they get taken away. As admin said, there were never rights. Any person here is able to create their own forum and re-establish the quetza flamer tradition. Just don't be surprised when it turns into a lock-in and all you're talking to is the same 20 people out of 7000 who managed to concentrate at QCDN to get their flame on.

You have no idea how outnumbered you are if you're a fan of the flameboard mentality and "spirit." QCDN has let those ranks concentrate here for far too long. The strong voice is nothing but an indicator of how long this forum has allowed the flamer mentality to consolidate while everything else has died and was choked out by it.

11 pages of heated discussion with no ad Hominem attacks no racial slurs, no attacks on sexuality, no 0 content posts.

This would never haev happened on the flameboard, which is where this post would be if the board had been left up for another week.

Good ridance to bad rubbish.

Now the population of Quetzalcoatl can now discuss without aruging.

People felt the need to defend theirself spending more time in the flameboard than was needed. I say if anything, the flameboard helped to make sure there was a lack of content here at qcdn.

Feedback is never unneccessary or undeeded. :)
Every ever so small thing people say regarding this board gets read, and even if it at times doesn't seem like it, everything does get considered as well. Sometimes I come up with different conclusions than those who provide the feedback, but that never means that due consideration was not given.

I much rather have people who give feedback under assumptions that were made based on how things were perceived, than people who give no feedback at all. (I know this is going to come back to haunt me, i.e. 'silent majority'.)

I just think that all the so called 'pricks' that lived in FB, now having nowhere to turn will begin to flood the other areas of QCDN with posts...like these...

people are going to argue and get upset no matter what, it's bound to happen. and if you take away where people used to do it, they'll probably find other places to do it. I don't think you can really kill the FB's spirit cause it wasn't the posts or topic that was the problem, because sure it everything has a rosey way of working out, but it's how the people handled it that was the problem. And the people weren't changed..so..I just think you opened the flood gates for this to become more widespread in other places. One of the positive things about the flameboard was that it gave a place for actions and negative things like that a to happen, a clear place, a place where people who hated that kinda of stuff could 'aviod it easily'.
Just worried about what happens once it starts to occur everywhere else..

...or they'll leave. If the fight is somewhere else, those who are only interested in the fight will follow it, which may not be such a bad thing.

I understand why sculli wanted to get rid of the FB, and do not fault him for deleting it. I do however miss it sorely, as it amused me so much. I am especially upset that I wasn't able to post more about a certain member who i have unsaid flames for.

Carrie?

Sculli, quite frankly you screwed up. Yes, there were negetive aspects to the flameboard. But there were also very good heated conversations (blm nerf thread). You have just given a pass for people to be idiots with no reprecussions. You want to force people to respect each other, and that will never work.

For example, do you think people will now respect pere*? No, they wont. One of two things will happen if he posts something. Either a) people that may have opposing views or something benificial to add will just not post b/c its pere, or b) people will post an opposing view, the thread gets out of hand, and a flame ensues.

The flameboard served multiple purposes that other boards will not be able to compensate for. It warned people about shady players/ls, it allowed people to vent, and most importantly it was a source of entertainment. It seems with this neighborhood watch board is that you are looking for is a way for people to say something bad about another player but in a way that doesnt hurt their feeling. Sorry, but that is ridiculous. That is just a water-downed flame, but it will have the effect of hurting the flamee's feeling. Only difference is that the flamed person has to be nice to whoever flamed, excuse me, neighborhood-watched him.

*pere, i have nothing against you, and this isnt a flame, but just using u as an example due to your contribution to the flameboard.

I personally think it will keep such memebers as peregrine from being as assinine. I know that when I posted on the Flameboard it was usually just to ruffle feathers. Looking back on some of Peres posts, I'd say he (she?) had the same objective in mind.

I think the deletion of the flameboard just opens up the chance for genuine discussion and debate. Much like this thread. We have all been civil, and we have all made several valid points without calling people names or making 0 content posts.

It's as tho this is a flame, but it's actually going somewhere.

To Peregrine,
I have been reading threads all over QCDN for a while, and in almost every one that you get flamed in you say you can stop, but you never do. You are no better than the others, except that they don't preach something different from what they do.

This might have been a useful post if I had ever posted last in my entire history on this board. I can stop. I always do.

About this being a civil discussion, it's getting there but not quite there. Someone still accused me of trying to derail this early on when that was clearly an overreaction. I believe I was directly called pathetic by Mr. Pants there, which certainly won't fly now. As someone is reading the previous sentence they're thinking about how much they could pwn me or whatever by quoting it and replying in a one-liner. Seen it a hundred times. It's getting old.

Also the thanks button is quickly turning into a bandwagon. It's nice to know who agrees with who, but if you'll reread the thread you'll see that a no-content post got thanked. We all know why. It wasn't witty. It wasn't new. Wasn't content. Nothing but a one-line retort got thanked by what...3 people? And looks like the same 3 people. That's gonna get old fast when everyone can see in plain daylight that the same folks take every opportunity to thank a shot at me. Unfortunately it's not going to get old to me. We've done the whole fanboy discussion a handful of times now.

Anyway. This is better. This isn't perfect though. To be honest I would have destroyed this topic on the flameboard most likely. Trip is right. I would never have taken it to the first flame (see my fleetool GD topic as proof that I can do this), but I would have taken it down and loved it when the same old people came and posted the same old insults. If there's nowhere to flame I have an unfortunate advantage in that I never take it to no-content first but I will gladly take it there to mock the regulars who do. Nets are fine by me. No-flaming anywhere is a net.

Even if some of you all don't care for admin's wishes and want to call me pathetic to my face in this topic, I can't follow any more, anywhere. So actually that's probably not my advantage depending on how much admin will let stray flames slide.

It's not going anywhere. I'm going to have to ask you to look at the thread again. It's going in circles.

Of course, that's the inevitable path for such an argument to follow, because it was made evident looooong ago that nobody's the slightest bit interested in re-examining their own feelings about this. Their mind was made up two weeks before they even thought about it. It's over. There's no "resolution," here, just a building of friction.

The difference is that the highly-pressurized internal steam that builds up as a result of the endless argument now has no way to properly vent.

Vented steam is scalding hot, it's true. It's been disallowed. The debris from an explosion will hurt worse, though.

Even if we avoid an explosion, the bad feelings will be left to stew, rot, and eventually leave a bitter-tasting grudge. Let's not kid ourselves, here: we've jammed a cork in a boiler valve. We haven't put out the fire.

The vent is the exit to the forum. If you're hot, leave. That's another physics concept. Evaporation.

there was some good thread on the flameboards them I will miss, but then there are the other 80% that are junk. It has just gotten worse in the last half year. I hope some though post do lak on other board but maybe there will be actual talk intead of gernade tossing.

How clever. Beaten at my own metaphor. I literally lost two inches of E-height just now; did you feel it? Well, I do thank you for replying on Trippyhippy's behalf, but you seem to have missed the top 50% of my post, and the particular point I was addressing. -_-

For anyone who thinks that a flame isn't a flame because it's cloaked in civil language, one only needs to look at the post I am making, and the post I am replying to. Nothing's different. That's why I don't leave. It's exactly the same.

We've just added a hint of 'Waspish' dishonesty to it all. We've made it a whole lot more dangerous, and given the old grudges a kind of longevity they'd never have had if they'd been allowed to burn in the open.

At any rate, I don't see how a "then get the Hell outta here" reply to a perfectly valid criticism conforms to the new 'Standard' at all. Oh wait, it does. It's all in the phrasing, I see.

I'm not trolling. I'm not telling you to leave. There is, in fact, a valve to relieve pressure, and it's wide open. To compare the FB to a pressure valve is a flawed analogy. This is an open container with no fire under it. If you're too hot for the group, you surely have the kinetics to leave.

There isn't much I can add to this tread anymore. Please refer to my previous posts in here.

However, I do keep reading that the sky is falling, or will be falling. Someone PM me when it actually does. Till then I will consider this topic exhausted.

Edit: The QCDN Community Standards have been reworded.

I'm going to admit it I came to the site for the FB for the content so I'm not bored when I'm surfing the internet. Now that there isn't constant content when I check the site daily I'll probably stop coming as much.

I have my friends here but I already PM/IM them anyway.

My favorite line going around is that the FB held back the server in terms of advancement. Of course, this is the one and only reason that the JP community that never posts here hasn't killed AV on our server, nor why the NA community can't work together in the first place.

There is a whole list of linkshells who supposedly considered it a blesphamy to practice the freedom of speech or wthell you call it on qcdn. Most good shells were going to "fuckin shit as i call it" cuz of flameboard also.If people hadn't started flames and picked on each other's actions so much i can pretty much guarentee that qtz would be ahead of alot of servers out there due to the good amount of potential posessed by the majority of the NA side of qtz.Shit me not but JPs are way ahead of NAs when it comes to teamwork etc.... no i'm not a fanboy or w/e but you can see how much ahead they are just by running around in alzhabi for one minue.Yes flameboard did a good job of keeping those type of people who use others for their own advantage, are just plain holes to the normal players,at the bay,but on same hand the linkshell flames etc just made the whole thing hit the fan. There is no point for this thread to keep going so in my opinion locking it would save alot of internet space.
