This is a topic that doesn't really need to be discussed. It's an unwritten law which most people realize "insults" as such come from delinquent juveniles.

Redneck was an insult that the target took on as a self-label. Gay was a self-label that rednecks skew and throw back on the people they are afraid of. Redneck is of the same class as n*****. Gay. Rather than restrict word usage to members of a certain class, I'd rather just get rid of them. It's discriminatory to say that just because you're not black, you can't say the word niggar(fucking censorship won't let me spell it right). Hell, that could be the solution for qcdn, just add "retard" into the automatic censorship filter. You'll never change people's language, so if you really care this much, now you won't have to see it.

I have a tendency to not be offended by what one person says to another. A white guy calling some mexican a wetback in my presence isn't going to make me upset with the white guy. He can call the guy a faggot, retard, asshole, but until he directs an insult at me, that is an issue between those two.

I think the assertion he was making might've been more towards a rose is a rose. Phraseology (sp?) does not designate vulgarity, the intended victim absorbes the slurs and puts the level of offense on it they deem neccessary. In a perfect world where everyone has such high standards and classifications as yourself idiot would be no more acceptable than retard, the classifications and/or designations of one being a lighter infraction than another is illogical.
 
In my world I can call you all a bunch of beggars and simply hope that a few of the brighter burnouts of the group picks up on half the hypocrisy I throw. Please. You can bump the letters per word average up, but I don't require you to sound like an intellectual to talk to me.

You argue against the existence and legitimacy of connotation, yet you blatantly generalize. Seems a bit hypocritical to me, as both using words based on their connotation and generalizing display oodles of ignorance.
