Ah, you guys are being needlessly ghoulish. Maybe some psycho with a gun will come along and make a play -- there's no predicting what nuts will do -- but it's not going to do him any good. The would-be assassin is still living in a nation that said those tired racist attitudes are on their way out, and good fucking riddance, I say.

The South. There's still quite a few incredibly racist idiots in alot of rural southern states. Yeah, its way down from say 50 years ago, but I would be more surprised if there isn't some sort of attempt

not that I want there to be, but still...

Congratulations President Biden... wait thats still a few months away.

Shut up. I am sick and fucking tired of your ridiculous and needless cynicism and crass attitude. I'll tell you just as I told the 68-year-old man in line behind me yesterday. You're entitled to vote for who you want to, you can wish one way or the other, or even a third way. That's your right, that's your privilege, and that is your prerogative as an American citizen. However, at the end of the day, the rest of us don't give a fuck about any negativity from any side, and anyone who does is an extremely sad person.

Because slimming a bloated blackhole of a budget means troops will have their combat pay reduced. Excellent reasoning skills you have there. If combat pay made up the majority of the defense budget, you might be on to something. But haha, unfortunantly, it isn't.

I agree here. What's actually funny is that the entire time my father was in the military (27 years, 1980-2007), he enjoyed the largest pay increase during his service during the Clinton administration, when military cuts due to the BRAC list base closures were at their highest. Funny how that works.

Indeed. I will be surprised greatly if there isn't some sort of moronic attempt made, but the Secret Service has been on their toes with Obama since way early in the campaign, and they have been on their toes since.

Thank you for the sweeping generalization from Manitoba. Now, if you'll excuse me, evidently I need to go chew some more "chaw" and bore my rifle. :dur::dur:

Racist idiots exist everywhere in this nation, and to be honest, the largest contingency of them exist closer to your border than you think or want to admit.

btw, i am extremely ready for any punishment the above post necessitates. i'm tired of negativity regarding this election, it's over, get over it, and move the fuck on. bring it.

Congratulations to Obama and thank you to everyone who voted no matter what person you felt that you should vote for. It was nice to see that so many people cared about the election.

absentee voting was the way to go this year; i wish i had lol.

I waited for 3 hours in line to vote for Obama. Indiana went blue for the first time since I don't know when. It's almost always been a strictly republican state (except for NW IN where I live) but to see it go blue for Obama was inspiring.

A thank you to the Americans for making the right decision after eight long, long years.

I look forward for the new influence and outlook that your nation has, which effects everyone in this world.

Always happy to provide. But despite that, its true. No, being from the south doesn't make you a redneck, and its still a tiny minority, but you can't tell me it doesn't exist. That kind of people exist everywhere, but there are certain places that tend to produce more of them than others.

Fuck, we have them here too, especially in alberta, and some parts of Manitoba.

I'm nowhere near denying any existence of the idiocy of a few in the Southeastern US, but I stand by what I said. Those persons are not a product of their region, but a product of their ignorance and the ignorance of their fathers. It's region-independent.

January 20th seems so far away. Like it's enough time for another bad decision or two.

Go out with a bang, that'd show America who's boss >.>

Nah, I think Bush stepped into "lame duck" status almost a year ago. The economy is the only thing that made him poke his head out of the shell for more than a few minutes.

Racism and ignorance will always exist, what's changed is the public opinion of those that practice it. It's no longer (and hasn't been for years) socially acceptable to dislike someone because of their race, and I hope that Obama's term in office will really show that we're closer to a true equality. That being said, I think that now we can officially say that nobody can complain that the white man is holding the black man down anymore, since the most powerful family in the country is now African-American. I don't mean that there won't still be some bias or judgement on race, I mean that when it comes to "affirmative action" I think we can all agree that it's not really needed anymore. Barack has proven that whether it be education or employment, if you deserve to be there, you can get there on your own two feet.

McCain was a real class act last night with his concession speech. He really gave me some pride in our electoral system. Obviously he wishes things ended up differently, but I think he understands that what the people want is what matters, and is willing to work towards bettering the American way rather than fighting party politics. I hope that we can do what McCain said and bridge the gap between us all and come to better plans for our future as a nation.

I liked McCain’s speech. Hell I liked him in general, Obama just seemed like the better choice overall. Maybe it would have been different if McCain had picked a competent VP. I really feel for Obama though, having to clean up the mess that has been made, I hope people remember that he took over while it was a mess and to give him time to fix it.

Good points, Tauro. In the end, the people ultimately decide who they want to lead their country for the next 4 years. It just remains to see how things turn out. I, personally, feel this is a very historic milestone in American history, as we now have the first ever African American president.

I'm just waiting for someone that peeks my interests so that I actually feel like "I have to vote for this guy (or girl)." I'm not saying they have to be perfect, hell I know that's never going to happen. But I've never felt like I needed to vote for anyone, like I just had to vote for an individual. I've got to have that feeling, or else I'd just be lying to myself and throwing away my vote. I should be able to vote for someone and feel like I actually did something for a purpose when I walk out of the voter's booth. No one has ever given me a cause to feel like that, not yet anyway. So there's no point in my voting for someone I don't feel compelled to vote for.

There is so much to comment on in this thread, but this one post stands out. Sorry Ecks, but that's a bullshit excuse. I myself really REALLY hated my choices for president, and in fact have not been excited about a candidate since 96, but I went to the polls, not for the presidential election, but because of some local races and state issues. Election day is not just about the president, there are a lot of things that get voted on and I'm sure that you could easily find something that means something to you and probably several things that impact your life.

Palin and a few key issues aside, my main beef with McCain was how he presented himself. You can tell he wanted to give off an image that he can relate to everyone, but the way he gave his speeches just made it sound so forced.

Being President of the United States is a very big public image position. And if you have the charisma of a potato you aren't going to do the job well, even if you solve all the problems going on in the country. You're the unified voice of the country, so stammering and stuttering a lot while barking off seemingly emotionless catchphrases is just counterintuitive.

Ok first of all i admit that i am a bit cynical... its actually one of the traits that i like about myself.

Everything i see about Obama likens him to 2 people mainly and those are MLK and JFK... With that in mind what exactly makes my belief that he will likely be martyred out of line. I am being realistic people don't mind it if you get in the boat but you cant rock it too hard and this appears to be another one of those type moments. I will flat out say that i will be surprised if Obama survives his presidency.

What scares me is what this will mean after that... I fully expect wide-scale riots and devastation that will make the events of Katrina and 9/11 seem insignificant. As of right now Obama is largely bringing the country together but any forward motion that is made will be easily counteracted by one idiot with a gun. And it will put us back so far in this country socially that i cant even imagine it. Which brings me to my point... we have a lot of idiots.

I may be cynical... yes but i tell you what... i am going to make sure i have ammo for all of my guns in case i need to protect myself.

We are here...
