I hear “you can’t complain if you don’t vote”, too often.

I absolutely LOATHE hearing this. I have a friend who lords it over anyone who complains about the government that didn't vote, even when we live in a riding where you know who's going to win before the election even happens. In Canada, it's a big problem, and only made worse by the fact we have a 2 party system masquerading as a multi-party system. I don't care where or when you are in Canada, there have only been 2 parties in a position to change laws, or make any sort of decision that a government would make. Then you get at most, one respectable party that just doesn't have a large enough following to get anything done.
Dion will just screw with the economy, especially Alberta's, and Harper is pro-war. Anything else is a purely wasted vote, because no one else will ever be in a position of power. I don't want either of them in power, so why should I vote for them? Perhaps if it were a closer distribution between the parties, but even then, those who aren't in one of the big two, are often just plain crazy. You should vote for someone you believe in, not for the one you hate the least.

That word, I do not think it means what you think it means.

But seriously, I've heard so many people claiming Obama is a Marxist. Do you know what Marxism is? Do you have the slightest clue who has been Marxist world leaders and their policies? Do you even know anything about what Marx and Engels wrote?

I learned all about it when I went to graduate school and am well aware of the garbage they spewed out but thanks for asking. You'd of thought my liberal professor was his best friend.

He's not a socialist either. If you want a working example of socialism, look at Sweden. Look at how their government works, and some of the laws they've passed. That's socialism.

I'm not looking to become Sweden or even Canada for that matter. I'll make you a deal. You keep your government entitlements and I'll keep more of my paycheck.

And your statement isn't great either, that's like saying because Chamillionaire and Weird Al are friends/enjoyed each other's music, that Weird Al's a rapper, and Chamillionaire plays the accordian.
I'm not even American, and it bothers me how little you people know about the people you choose to run your country.

Sorry that is an excellent analogy and dead on too. Who you affiliate with is a STRONG indicator of the type of person you are. When you keep the company of racists, socialists, and terrorists then don't expect me to believe you don't at best partially subscribe to their beliefs.

Lucky for me then my vote isn't going to get canceled out by your uninformed one.

You will probably get some people saying that you threw your vote away.

The people that say that, are the same as the people that say you can't complain if you didn't vote, or the kind of jackass Tristam came across today. People that actually believe these things are a waste.

The other thing I don't get are the people that scream at non-voters for not exercising their "right to vote." Voting isn't a right, it's a privilege. Using privileges is entirely optional. If it was a right, a felon would still be able to vote.

That guy I met today was Halifirien's favorite type of dickweed.

I agree that voting is entirely optional, and the prerogative of the person in question. However, I wouldn't go so far as to use the felon analogy, as felons give up (involuntarily) some of their rights while in the clink.

btw guys, don't take my "wow that's retarded" statement as me saying "hohoho, this is the way it oughta be". It's me expressing my distaste for not doing something excessively simple from a really silly fear of a small-chance of something.

I think that people who don't go to the beach because they're afraid of shark attacks are equally moronic.

.....

Four hours; one sticker, one pizza, one two-liter Pepsi, one coffee and a new President later; it was all worth the long-ass line.

Great story, thanks for sharing. I forwarded it to a couple friends of mine who I'm sure will enjoy it as well.

No such luck. It's been cancelled out by my vote.

I didn't vote, makes 9 years straight. I'm still waiting for someone who makes me really want to vote for them. John Kerry got close, but even then I didn't vote because my vote then would have simply just been to oppose Bush. No real good reason.

Meanwhile the world goes on like it always does, whether or not I choose to vote.

If your waiting for that perfect candidate, your gonna be waiting for a while. What most do is vote for the ones who seems to fit their views best.

I'm just waiting for someone that peeks my interests so that I actually feel like "I have to vote for this guy (or girl)." I'm not saying they have to be perfect, hell I know that's never going to happen. But I've never felt like I needed to vote for anyone, like I just had to vote for an individual. I've got to have that feeling, or else I'd just be lying to myself and throwing away my vote. I should be able to vote for someone and feel like I actually did something for a purpose when I walk out of the voter's booth. No one has ever given me a cause to feel like that, not yet anyway. So there's no point in my voting for someone I don't feel compelled to vote for.

I vote we ratify the Constitution, by popular vote, to finally end the ridiculous, obsolete electoral college system.

Wow.. this is crazy watching all this commotion on NBC. Well, we finally have the first black president in US history. Time to see what happens next.

History has been made. Congradulations to the President-Elect, Barack Obama!
