THE OFFICIAL 2009 FOOTBALL SEASON SMACK TALKING THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find that list to be extreamly bias. while i think peyton deserved the award, he DID carry the team, i cant help but think that many of the others are getting all this praise simply cause they are on the colts and the team has a SB under it's belt.

oh did you notice that in the picture of Colston they got his number wrong? lol

That list might be biased, but it contradicts what the media says. Not you nor I. The media constantly says that Manning carries a very average team, but then THEY make a list like that. Well Manning might carry that team, but they do have players like Dwight Freeney (who might not play!), Mathis, Wayne, Clark, Saturday. I mean it's not all Manning.

Exactly. Saying it's all Manning is like saying that the Colts could win the Superbowl if everyone else on the team were 12 year olds. If you don't have players who can catch and get some YAC, then they wouldn't be as good as they are. If they didn't have a pretty good, and again underestimated, defense, then they wouldn't be as good as they are. Manning is great, but he can't do as well without a good team either.

Why did Manning win MVP?:

How about the Colts didn't lose a game that he played the full 60 minutes in.

He picks apart defenses.

And you have to admit that he's just the best QB. As someone said, "when you compare QBs, it's Peyton, then everyone else."

And my argument is Manning can win it every year, but their are other players who are very valuable to their team. Might as well start giving it to someone else for a change. It's like Jordan could have it every year, Bonds could have got it every year etc. Seriously, he's not the only valuable person in the league. Yes, he's the greatest to ever play the position...WE GET THAT, but they need to chill on him being completely untouchable. The Media makes him much larger then the team, and the NFL is the only sport where a player isn't supposed to transcend the team.

I, personally, still think he deserved to win it. He doesn't win it every year, he only has 4 out of his 12 year career. He won last year, but then it as Brady before that. Then Tomlinson before that and Alexander before that. So you can't say he wins it every year, he's won 2 straight twice and that's it. It's not like they only give it to him.

He deserved it this year, but so did Brees.

And Manning for about 4 years now is on another level in popularity then he was before 2005. His name alone is huge. He does tons of commercials. Lets face it, his face plastered all over everything helps a lot. I'm not naive. I know how the media is.

Its the damn Oreo commercials man.

Best Oreo commercials ever. But yeah, all you have to do is put "Approved by Peyton Manning" on something and it'll probably sell millions.

Congrats to the Saints and New Orleans. Well played game from both teams and it was very entertaining. Great great guts shown by Saints coach and i give him all the credit in the world... Great game Brees who out played Manning like he did every QB this year. You could argue he was the MVP of regular season. Brees finally will be relevant to the blind people who follow only what the media tells them to... Since they are no longer on Paytons back. Oh this just in, Payton is no longer the greatest QB ever to the media as if he ever should have been. One of the greatest, sure. I have nothing against Payton as i am honest and know how incredible he is. I do swear to you though there is something humbling about EVERY SINGLE so called pro media person claiming this game a lock for the Colts and then to watch Payton throw it away right in the middle of one of his "Payton Onry" moments. In all honesty if Payton is not going against my Giants i kinda root for the guy.. There was just something so cool about the Saints story that i had to hope for their victory. Again congratulations.

Gotta hand it to the Saints, they played well. They did exactly what they needed to do, keep Peyton off the field. He was more frustrated on the bench that he was on the field lol. I personally thought the Colts would win, but I'm not upset the Saints did. Another NFC victory and an amazing story for the Ain... er... Saints! Now let's see you guys bounce back next year unlike the last couple of Superbowl champs!

I couldn't sleep last night! Now I'm up having to go to work. This should be a holiday down here damnit! I'm proud of my boys, they played fantastic after the first QT. Drew Brees finally woke up and pretty much had his way with the Tampa 2 the Colts were using. People been saying all week we'll lose because that defensive scheme takes away the big play down the field. I was thinking to myself "do these people even watch a Saints game?". We're fantastic at short, to intermediate routes, are they joking? Anyway, our defense has done that all year and tons of people said that our defense isn't that great, but tonight they showed they were in their own way, just not the conventional way to not allowing many yards.

I wouldnt go as far as saying the Def was great. They were pretty average. They were doing absolutely nothing to scare Payton or disrupt him up until that pick. He was having his way just as Brees was. Sure we cant look at what would have been but you honestly think the Saints were going to stop him on that drive? They needed a mistake and they got it. Now i dont know if i believe the rumors that have come out... Saying Wayne ran the route wrong? It looked to me that Payton made a bad pass under the recieve. I do find it crazy funny though that they mentioned Saints failure due to the long play being taken out the picture. They know Brees's gift is in his accuracy and not arm strength right? Look at his completion precentage lol and he damn tied the record for completions in the SB.

I have a question. Does the 2pt conversion not count as a completion on the stats? The reason I ask is, CBS showed a stat that the superbowl record for completions was 32 by Brady. At the time, Brees had 30. He then completed a pass to the goal line, then the TD to Shockey for 32. The 2pt pass should have been number 33 and the record, but the stat lines on both foxsports and espn show him as having 32 completions. Any thoughts?

2pt doesn't count as a stat. If you throw a pick on the 2pt, it doesn't count as a pick. If you fumble during the 2pt, it doesn't count as a fumble. Same with completions and incompletions.

I said they were great in their own way. The Saints defense is just like our offense, they compliment each other, and IMO they are also an image of an ever changing NFL. People said they had to rely on the turnover, and eventually they wouldn't get them, but in reality, they did get them all year. That is not luck, to have it happen in 16 games. No that is how they are built, and they run it perfectly for how they are built, which would mean, for that scheme, they are great. Held Manning to 17 pts in the SB, had big plays against Warner (HOF), Favre (HoF), and Manning (HoF). Defenses now allow yards left and right, not just the Saints. I believe with Williams' scheme and our players, they have adapted to the new offensive league the NFL is now.

I agree with osyris about drew's lack of acknowledgment just because he didn't have a super bowl ring like brady & payton. Players should be gadged by their over all performance, not just how many championships they have. Some players have great stats but no championships, Dan Marino being one of them i believe. But i could not sleep that night either Anglis. When tracy snagged that ball the whole neighborhood probably heard me shouting. My GF had to cover her ears, hahahaha. I missed the parade tonight but i will be in town tomorrow morning to celebrate this victory and Mardi Gras with my family.

But man tell me you didn't do a double take with that onside kick. for a moment i was thinking "SEAN ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!". But i quickly realized why he did it. you don't give manning a fresh drive to score on when he's already in the lead. :)

Awesome job Saints! 43 years and we finally have it!

Brees needed the championship because his Career stats didn't match up with Manning/Brady yet. Manning completely outdo's both Brees and Brady, while Brees is slightly under Brady but Brady also has 3 rings. If you were to gauge QBs by there stats for just one year, then you have to put Romo, Schaub, Rodgers, Roethlisberger, and Eli in the scene too. When Brees outdoes Brady in overall stats (Both have been playing for majority of 9 years) then you can almost put Brees over Brady. Have Brees get one more ring or completely surpass Brady's stats, and I'll say that he's better than Brady.

I do think you have to count rings, or at least W-L's.

I tend to look at comparisons in a 5 year period. 5 years is long enough to show consistency and short enough to not drag on stats.. If you look at the last 5 years Manning, Brees and Brady have been the best QBs in the game and thats not an order. Their stats over that period of time are all very very similar. The rest of the QBs you mention are not even in the same area in that period. Its funny because the old boys Warner and Favre put up closer numbers, maybe very close but i dont feel like looking right now. Anyways the only thing i was getting at earlier is with all the media hype over Manning they forgot Brees is just as good at this point. Guess he reminded em eh?
