THE OFFICIAL 2009 FOOTBALL SEASON SMACK TALKING THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Drew did look a little tired and the vikings do have a better defense then us. it's a pitty they threw ball security to the winds, and the game to us. :)

It is a pity. Hopefully he gets his shit together in time to face the colts. The saints probably won't be able to have 6 turnovers against the colts to keep the game close.

The better team always wins the match.

Whatever you say, haha. It certainly helps having the refs give you a touchdown and PI calls on the most important plays of the game.

it was 5 not 6.*edit* i rewatched the highlights & missed one. so yeah it was 6.

wah wah wah. All I have heard since the game is people crying about bad ref calls. I notice no one is crying about the 5 turnovers the vikings committed. i know its easier to bitch about the ref's calls. I wanna see vikings fans man up and admit that if they had held onto the ball, and brett didn't try to be a hero, they would have won. Don't pass the guilty buck to the refs when you're responsible for shooting yourself in the foot. the better team doesn't do that.

The team that played better tonight was the Vikings. The better team was the Saints. If you make mistakes, you'll most likely lose. We found out that the hard way last week against the Vikings.
I agree. I was worried the whole time. Trading punts, unable to establish solid momentum, and not stopping the vikings on 3rd down like they did us repeatedly is cause for concern. Brett gets props for being tough. He played through all that pain cause he knew he needed to be in the pocket for a win, not a back up QB.

But they lost the game the way the Saints were known for losing games our 2 seasons prior, turning the ball over to much.

Oh the vikings def. beat themselves, no question about that. They out played the saints but gave them the game due to the turnovers. But the calls were bullshit too. That touchdown was easily a yard and a half short of the goal line. And that PI call effectively put them in field goal range. Two calls that, although wouldn't have mattered had the vikings known how to hold onto a football, could have both changed the game to a win for the vikings.

Obviously the turnovers was the main reason why we lost, but those 2 calls were pretty shit and screwed us as well.

I was completely impartial on both games yesterday. Personally, I was half rooting for the Jets to win because I would of liked the irony of the Colts basically letting the Jets into the playoffs in the first place, only to be taken out be them. That was balanced with the fact that had the Jets won, Mike and Mike in the morning would have turn into a disgusting Jet's love affair for the next two weeks and I would have had to listen to something else on my way to work....

I really didn't know who to root for in NO vs Min (my wife was rooting for Min because she liked the purple....). Sorry Vikes, you LOST, the refs did not hand it away. The amount of opportunities you flat out squandered was pathetic. I had no problems with the PI/Def holding call. I do question the fourth down spot. This wasn't a goal line play, and there is no such thing as breaking the plane of the first down line. Before I get arguments about foward progress, it does not apply here as he lost the ball, and it should have been marked where he regained control, which appeared short. It still boils down to Min. On the surface, I can see how people would say how they outplayed NO, but it's hard to defend that when you have 6 fumbles (3 lost) and 2 Ints plus a lot of dumb penalties...

Ok I have no voice at all. I'm dead tired too lol.

Here goes. I was so shocked we got that flag when Jeremy Shockey tripped in OT. Other then that one call, most calls went against us tonight. I mean seriously, 3 flags on one drive, two being illegal hits to Favre, which were absolutely bullshit. I watched the highlights when I got back, and even Aikman thought they were crap.

For the 3 qts, I thought the NFL was absolutely trying to have a Favre/Manning Superbowl, and the whole Dome agreed. THEN BAM. Redemption by the REFS. THANK YOU FOR THE GIFT!!

Trent Dilfer said it best, "The best team won tonight. The Saints kept their composure, didn't turn the ball over, kept their emotions in check, and made the plays when necessary to win the game. That is part of the game, and if you can't do it, then you're not the best team. The NFL will never change the OT rules Viking fans. Get over. Vikings lost".

Of course I agree with him. He also said, on the biggest stage, you're greatest weakness always show themselves. Well, the Vikings couldn't hold onto the ball because it's not in their DNA.

Also, Brees played bad. He missed two potential TD passes to Meachem and Devery early, and a huge pass to Shockey, who were all open. Everyone can say because of this game, the Saints don't stand a chance against the Colts, but I don't buy that. Teams play differently WEEK to WEEK, and lately, the Saints have been fantastic coming off of byes. Oh, people love to point out the poor play of the Saints against the Redskins, Dallas, Tampa, Miami, and now the Vikings, BUT they forget to mention the Colts struggled with 9 wins this season. Funny, I can say, if the Colts play that way, they will lose, but I won't. Works both ways. Yes I'm scared that Manning will have a big day, but I'm also excited because Manning threw a decent amount of INT's this year. If Drew Brees shows up, this will be a game down to the last second.

Oh and after watching Manning's game when I got home, boy that guy has a P.H.D in awesomeness. He had a drive, the one to finally take over the game where he called an audible 7 straight pass plays to go up. That Manning scares me. The only way to stand a chance is if the Real Drew Brees stands up! The one who dissected the Pats/Giants/Eagles, the one who recovered from a bad game, to play awesome down the stretch (Miami), the one who was clutch, and lead the League in 4th QT QB ratings, efficiency, yards, etc. All on you Brees.....no pressure.

the one where they claimed favre was picked up and driven down was a bit of a stretch for roughing. ill give you that one. however, the low hit that took him out at the ankles should have been called instead. the nfl has been trying to avoid hits like that on ALL qbs this year after the season ending injury to brady last season.
i wouldnt be surprised if they were making calls all night for roughing the passer due to the fact they were trying to take favre off of his game. or even out of the game for that matter.
IE: the first roughing the passer call. you cannot deny that one was roughing. seeing as how the handoff was made a good 5 seconds before favre was laid out.

as for who wins...well, it would be nice to see the team that hasnt ever been to a SB, win. i know my buccaneers have been to that point before. its good to get the monkey off of the back. but, manning is the factor here. i dont know if they still do hurry up offense anymore, but that kills defenses. they used to love running that and wear out the energy of the defense.
hopefully the SB is like last nights game. that was damn exciting

This game imo would compare to an mma or boxing fight that was razor thin and goes to decision. This game will be marred by controversy, however its controversy the vikes had countless opportunities to prevent, they left the game in the hands of the saints and refs, "the better team" doesn't do that. The saints played better, points turnovers and yards all factor in, saints had more points and less turnovers, that's 2 to the vikings 1 (yards). You can't say the vikes were a better team, they weren't. With that said, NO dodged a bullet, or a few.

Let's not forget the vikes recovered 3 of their 6 fumbles, had that not happened the saints would've ran with it, I still believe the saints were given a hand with favres interception and the pi call, but the saints were the better team. By a razor thin margin

i wouldnt say they were better. they just made less mistakes. you have to remember, they were a minute and a half away from losing by 3 until a mistake by the vikes was made.
the more deserving team won

I think the Saints field a better team then Minnesota. Now if you break it down by roster, well the Vikings have the best Roster/Talent in the NFL. Team wise? No. They aren't the best. Saints and Colts are both better because of a few keys. Colts have Peyton Manning, an underrated defense, Peyton Manning, a low turnover offense, Peyton Manning.

The Saints have Sean Payton (who is better then Childress by miles), Drew Brees (who is better then Favre right now in his career), and a defense that specializes in taking the ball away. The Vikings, have great individual players, but that doesn't IMO make them the best team. They are very turnover prone, as AP has showed all year. Dude just cannot hold onto the ball. Favre, while having the best TD/INT ratio of his career, is very very turn over prone. Your two best players have a knack for turning the ball over. Well, the only stat that counts in the playoffs is turnovers.

Favre isn't very turnover prone (this year). AP fumbles like a bit though. Favre had 7 INTs the regular season iirc, but they had a total of 17-19 turnovers. Most of those probably came from AP's fumbles.

If you are comparing Colts vs. Saints with Colts vs. Vikings, then it matters what teams you are talking about. If you are talking about the Colts vs. the yesterday Saints then I don't really feel the Saints have much of a shot. If you are talking about the Colts vs. the yesterday Vikings, then I don't feel the Vikings had much of a shot. If you are talking about the Colts vs. the 13-0 Saints, then it'll be a good game. If you are talking about the Colts vs. the Vikings two weeks ago, then it'd be a good game.

Like I said before, I feel the Vikings played better yesterday because even with 6 turnovers, they only lost by 3 points in overtime. But at the same time, that 6th turnover is the one that fucked them up, making the Saints the better team.

if the saints are that much "better", it wouldnt have been that close of a game. you have to remember, they dont need AP to win. chester taylor was a 1k yd rusher before AP was even on the team.
indy beats saints by 10

The vikings have a much better defense then we do. Greg Williams himself mentioned that in a press conference. That is why he makes his players focus on causing turnovers. He knows that even with a good defense a team that loses the turnover battle, more often then not, loses the game. Why you think he was adamant about getting sharper and greer? He wants better defenders to take the Saints Def up a few notches. But he knows that even with the tools he has his team can get the job done.

I said Favre had his best year TD/INT ratio in my post. Still doesn't mean squat if it's in his DNA to make bad decisions in critical times. He did, and it cost him.

And to Master Orion, I never said we fielded a much better team, I just think we have a better team, even if it's slim which it is. I mean, I think Brees played awful, and his stats lie. If would have been on early, that game would have looked different.

I think turnover prone is more of, throwing excessive INTs and like almost one a game. Sounds like Tony Romo before the first Giants game. Meant to say AP fumbles like a bitch btw.

Yeah, Favre makes bad decisions at critical times. I don't blame him for trying to make something happen, but it was a poor decision. He should of just scrambled for some yards to get back into that 52 range or closer, or just threw an incompletion and tried a 55 yarder.

In the end I blame that game on Childress, not Favre, not AP. I swear, they win in spite of him. Twelve men the huddle? Really! What a joke, especially in that situation. If that didn't happen, then Favre doesn't have to throw to put his team back in FG range.

Also, the Saints did a lot on that play to confuse Favre. They started off in Man Coverage, then quickly called an audible right before the snap to go into Zone. Favre thought it was Man, meaning the corner doesn't look at the QB. Well it being zone, Porter didn't have to worry about eying the WR. So really, it's something that could happen to a couple of QB's.

I love how sports analyst constantly say Manning is on a very mediocre team and he carries them all the time, yet you get this.

Seriously, I've been saying this all along this year. Brees deserved MVP and if it was any year, this should have been his year. Look at that list. The Saints have 2 players in the top 10. Yeah ALL MANNING.
