He felt like giving the ball to Manning with over two minutes left and all three of their time outs was pretty fucking risky too. And honestly, he was right. There was no way the Pats were gunna stop them, there was plenty of time for him to work with 3-4 clock stoppages left. People are acting as if Manning didn't EASILY bring them 30 yards to score, but the truth is they could of gone those 30 yards in significantly less time than they had actually used up. Adding another 40 yards to make him go likely wouldn't have meant jack. I think we all can say that if you have to choose the Pats offense or the Pats defense...you go with that offense to make a pretty easy play.
The thing that was stupid was the Pats use of their time outs and the play they called on 4th and 2. Just run a fucking 3-5 yard route, no reason to just barely run enough/just short of the yardage needed.
They had one time out if I remember correctly. They used 2 before the 2 minute warning. Then the 2 minute warning passed on that 4 and 2 play. So they really only had once chance to stop the clock if time ran out a couple seconds on the punt.
Edit:
Read an article that said the same thing, "over 2 minutes with 3 time outs remaining." I was thinking "I'm pretty sure they had one and they started their drive on the 2 minute warning."
"The miss gave Manning 1 minute, 57 seconds and all three timeouts—an eternity for the three-time MVP—and he went right to work." - http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/recap;_ylt=AhjZ1Z.BvczIcUIHtCvSgzsdsLYF?gid=20091115011&prov=ap
