From the perspective of one who plays the tank job... I've played both, left NIN @ 37 due to my personal opinion of it not being as fun of a job as PLD, plus the costs of playing NIN. I plan on saving NIN as one of the last jobs I get to 75. I might push NIN to 60 just to get AF, but that'd be it for now. Playing NIN early on really hinders your wallet for a long time, best to play it near the end when you've done tradeskills & have got multiple high lvl jobs for which you can make better Gil with to support playing NIN.

Playing NIN early on doesn't hinder your wallet for shit.
Nothing before 40 is all that expensive...Same with any job.
Sure, there's some items that might cost a bit, but if you don't use them you sell them back.
Oh, I'm sorry, is shihei too expensive now? A piece of gear?
...And you're talking 37 and lower. If it's a problem for you already, I'd suggest just leaving your NIN at 37. PLD is more fun anyway, right?

For those that don't belong to a clique that does BCNM, HNM, group farming, etc. & have little time to play due to work.... yes it does hinder your wallet unless you've been playing the game for around 2 year already w/o these hinderances. Plus you forget what the gil sellers did to the economy, which it's just starting to return to something resembling normalcy. I have 71 PLD & have kept a hold of gear for BCNM's of lower lvls. As I said yes, I'm probably going to leave NIN at 37 just as a sub choice for other jobs, with only slight possibility of pushing it to 60 to get AF out of the way some time in the distant future.

Another thing that everyone seemed to miss on this thread is that a WHM that will flash can make a good tank great. PLD/WAR, NIN/WAR, WAR/NIN can all be interupted while casting spells. If you have a WHM that will flash the mob then the tank will have about 3 seconds to cast whatever it is that keeps getting interupted. There by defacto making the the tank better suited to do their job. Personally I like WAR/NIN tanks over all the rest because that is a true DD tank. Followed by a good Galkan PLD. NINs are ok tanks at best, just for the simple fact that without SATA you can't get all the DD that you should be able too. I've been in many parties with a NIN tank where the MNK and the DRK spend about 2-3 swings worth of time a fight with their backs to the mob. It's even happened when there was a THF doing SATA onto the NIN. If a NIN gets hit at all their hate goes right out the window, and I've been smacked a few times just from casting erase. You will never see a WHM get hit when casting erase on a PLD, happens alot with a NIN though. Personally I feel it goes WAR/NIN>PLD/WAR>NIN/WAR>"WAR/MNK SAM/WAR"

And that goes for ANY tank.

Well I have no clique like that. I've attempted as many or less BC runs than most people. Group farming is always less beneficial than solo farming for me, so I don't do that very often, unless I'm looking for fun over money.

The fact is not that pre-40 NIN equips and tools are that expensive. You'll need money to continue, but getting there is nothing.

Bull shit. I've seen many a PLD hold hate without a THF even in the same zone.

How did we get from talking about getting better DD w/SATA to being able to hold hate? o.0

lol, well the THF has to be in the party anyway.

Go back and look at the point that Meeze and I made.
NIN tanking, with a THF in the party SATAing onto the DD and we can hold hate through that just fine.

Not only do I not need a THF to SATA me to hold hate, but I can have them SATA+WS the DD and have the MOB hold perfectly still.

Also, as I admitted before, to your point, the addition of SATA generated hate, transferred to ANY tank only helps hold hate. Your point was that it enables to party to go a little more balls out on DDing. That's true and nobody would disagree with that.

Take SATA out of the picture.
The tank (PLD or NIN) holds the MOBs attention as well as they can to the abilities of their jobs. An equal SATA to either would only be adding the same amoutn of hate to either, making the discussion relative to their skills and abilities as tanks. Only difference is, the DD threshold can be pushed a little more across the board. SATA doesn't affect the tanking of only a PLD or only a NIN. It's has an equal effect on either tank.

Because people will say anything just to try and crap on NIN.

At 75 my ninja can hold hate as well if not better than most paladins. I take hate from them in Limbus and Dynamis and keep it. Anyone that says Ninja cannot hold hate has not partied with a good Ninja. There are very few people that can take and hold hate from me including paladins.
Ninja have so many gear options - whether it be evasion, enmity, or damage to adjust to the party and enhance experience points.
Paladins are good tanks and it is good to have options when building a party, but there are many misconceptions in this thread.

Ninjas will get you more experience points I guarantee it. Isn't that what it is all about?

I don't try & crap on NIN, I just believe PLD doesn't get the props it deserves, it was intended to be the tanking job in soooo many games, it's why they wear the plate & carry a shield.

I'm not saying you're crapping on NIN, although some people are.
You kind of took the prove to everybody what PLD can do road. Misconceptions of NINs and PLDs aside, all the things you said about PLD doing well are true. PLD is a good tank. Can't argue with things like Cover, Rampart, Curing power.

That kind of stuff goes back to the non-muddy water that I was leading to with the whole PLD = safer route.

Utsusemi allows for little to no damage taken, and simultaneously, little to no mp spent. That's where I was going when I said NIN = faster.

Without all the manure, I think that's as simple as you can state it. Plus, the poll results from your older similar thread to this one are in, and the results of this thread are in...By a very simple vote, we have the answer to the question, despite any other factors.

Yea that's pretty much it. The majority of people in this thread haven't partied with good ninjas though, so they're talking out of their ass.

You're also talking about a level 75 NIN. At what level is the really good gear you get? Do you have any merits? Sorry but you just can't compare like that.

Yet look how much NIN is winning by... this was over before it started.

NIN gets gear, spells, abilities at various times...
This makes the road from 1-75 awkward, just as you see with any job.
There are prime ranges for each job I'd say.

Then again, that's not what the question is. And I didn't see you stand up and shout when the BLM with merits said he liked PLDs better. :nono:

Shaunessy said:
A crappy BLM doesn't even need merits to die though.

That's right...He can do that with any tank.

I'll rather have a bad PLD than a bad NIN.
I'll rather have a good NIN than a good PLD.

I'd rather have SE give PLD something to even things up. I personally believe PLD should be the primary tanking job, but there are NIN & other's who would disapprove of that, so at least make it even SE....
