Okay now people say "go to a spot you would exp at the level of the weapon" (IE: Staff is 100 *cry* which mens Garlaige?) but 1: I dont wanna kill around exp pt's.. and 2: I'm a uh.. whm.. Rdm can solo up to EM... WHM can't solo worth anything without proper gear/jobs...

So I am curious now.. I dont want to go rdm/nin for club skills.. I want to do it ALL as whm..
I am a level 63 whm and my susbs available are WAR, NIN, BLM, RDM. Nin is level 15 btw so.. take that into account -_-
1: What subjob for club and staff?
2: Where is a good place to skill (AS WHM) for 120 club, 100 staff? I don't know how bad I'd get owned by mobs yet so I don't know how high to try.. Rdm I just fought anything.. if I couldnt win I'd chainspell stoneskin warp.. Whm has no escape plan.
3: Vermy for refresh or Crow Jupon/Emp Pin for eva?

Coffer key parties should get cap you for both skill at your level, take sushi and any acc gear you can get. Try to avoid being lone healer, if you get stuck in healer role you'll never have a chance to melee.

First of all I don't think you'll be killing many exp mobs. It is prolly going to take you like 5+ mins to kill 1 mob. If you want another location goblins near the OP in Altepa might be a good location. If things get bad you can just run to the zone, it is close by. If they seem a bit low you can try the ones in West(by the pond).

I'd go with refresh, Im sure your evasion isn't capped or anyway near that(since you're a whm). So +20 evasion or so isn't gonna make you a THF.

You can find your own unique location as well using
http://ffxi.somepage.com/mobdb/

Lastly, there are always skill up PTs.

I was hoping for a solo aspect so I wasn't bored while lfp :/ They are only 100, coffers took me to Vorpal Blade on rdm lol (200) I just wanted to whack some things... Stuff in Altepa (TW, High Def) give me about .6-.7 per fight.. however I use my Federation Signet Staff .... so each fight is about 6 minutes.. I got some good off an EP worm but I only see the at night? O.o;

Any places -slightly- higher than the beetles in Altepa but low enough to not rape me? >.<

*edit*
Thank you Zethren... and actually my evasion -is- capped ^^; I capped it as Rdm via pulling hate in exp pt's and soloing EM mobs for my NPC. :D Parry however still blows -.-

And on the other point.. what sub job? >.<

You're a WHM. You're pretty much going to have to do skill-up parties at some point. Not many jobs can cap all their weapons solo - maybe only RDM and BST.

It's at 100 ^^: Cap for me now is what, 203? I just wanna be able to even -hit- the skill up mobs is all..

Wait a lvl and buy a darksteel Maul and a strike shield. it's a nice +16 att and with af mitts you get another +5 str. you can solo things with ease.
Not sure if you can at that lvl but the mobs on the boat to Nash(tab) are great skill up mobs for soloing. I get a good lvl for club after each mob.(takes half the ride to kill one but worth it.)

can't think of anything else atm, i haven't slept in like 34 hours >.<

Edit: or you can get your hands on those Pirate Clubs for even more att

I always try to coerce skill-up parties into fighting undead so that I can snatch a few healing magic points (mine [was] hopelessly gimped) ._ .

As for subs, I'd go nin. If you're clever with shadows/stoneskin, you should be able to go for longer (if you don't mind using a few shihei here and there). Remember you don't necessarily need to kill mobs quickly, just squeeze as many points as you can from a single target before needing down time.

well, till 120 I skilled solo (ok, with my NPC) in Xarcabard and after that I duo'ed with my BF in crawlers nest, then we joined normal skill up PTs

Grab a ninja buddy and it is possible to skill up duo style without trying to get a party. Granted, the ninja will probably have to be 70+ but it is possible. Any sub works as long as the ninja in the party can be kept hasted. If there are any buddies that can refresh, bring them along as well so the mp pool can stay not too low and they can asist if something unexpected happens.

Skill ups for 100+ probably can start off with coffer mobs. Probably want to focus on ones that do not have too bad of an AoE attack or spell. LoO I believe you can still get staff skill up to 120 in there off of the goblins and cockatrices.

Kuftal works. There are experience points parties, other skill ups parties, and NPC parties around the area but it is normal to do such a thing. Only thing with Kuftal is make sure Guivere is not comming around the area to skill up frequently or being too close to Haunts. This is a great spot for levels 150-205? (it is possible with a lower skill but up to 150, the skill ups are slower)

After that, more than likely, parties are necessary for the remaining skill ups (unless there are super ninja friends ;p) points. Most people go to places like the Boyhada Tree and work on steelshells.

I think Halifirien and I duo'd skill-ups until around 180 or so, at which point I'd pretty much take off on my own or we'd raise skills with our LS. RDM and WHM work extraordinary well together because RDMs can easily keep hate (except on bones) and Flash, along with the higher tier regens WHM has, can take care of any casting/health issues the RDM might face in a harder fight. I think we went from around 100-175 or so in the Crawler's Nest, versus workers and exorays. You can push to 200 or so in there if you hit the coffer mobs.

Basically get my 75 rdm/nin honey kitty and just beat stuff... alright, I don't mind that.. I'll just hit 65 first :3

The RDM doesn't even have to be level 75 or sub NIN, which is a waste of gil most of the time since RDM/BLM and RDM/WHM solo just as effectively on most mobs. Halifirien and I were in the mid-50s when we were killing the exorays and all that.

i solo skillup as blm/whm all the time
with stoneskin blink icespikes protect shell and regen i'm usually fine on ep or dc.
using aspir and drain i tend to skillup on mobs with mp.
i keep warp and escape macros handy

I did Kuftal from 140ish to about 180ish on my club with a nin and a war who were both also skilling up stuff. After that, Boyahda Tree Steelshells got me to Hexa Strike levels pretty quickly in normal skillup pts.

For staff, I went from 100 to 130 killing undead and bats in Behemoth's Dominion and haven't gone beyond that from lack of caring. If I were to care I'd probably go directly to Kuftal with a few friends.

Xarcabard is a good place to wrap your head around whm soloing and the problems you may encounter. Hit up the demons just outside Zvahl, which are high-40s and should get you up to about... 140 skill? They're weak to light too, so Divine skillups if you need em.

Once you pass that, I'd highly recommend a skillup partner. You can try going whm/nin and pounding kuftal robbers with a lilith offhand, but keep your signal pearl and/or warp cudgel handy in case the fight gets rough.

Honestly, I can't give much advice on club, since I leveled it to around 170 on my THF before starting to skill it up on WHM. From what I remember of soloing with WHM at lower levels, though, is that it was really hard until I got Hexa Strike. A nice WS like Hexa Strike does wonders for soloing ability (I remember it being the same for THF, when I got Dancing Edge). Still, you should be able to take club to around 150 or so solo. Some good places to do this would include beetles in West Altepa, demons in Xarcabard, and Leshachikhas (saplings) in Lufaise Meadows, if you have access to there. Cockatrices in Onzozo should work nicely, too. Just make sure to be ready to turn around when fighting cockatrices, to avoid their petrification attack. But yeah... past that, you'll want skillup PTs. Robber Crabs in Kuftal can take you to about 200, and after that you're high enough to load up on accuracy+ gear and fight Steelshells in Boyahda Tree. That's kinda overkill, since they can cap you even at 75, but I did it. It's kinda slow at first, so you might wanna find mobs that are closer to your level first (anything EM or higher to you will take you to cap).

As for Staff, I leveled it on Death Jackets and Worker Crawlers in Crawlers' Nest until around 125 or so, if I remember correctly. After that I think I just started in Kuftal, since I waited til 73+ to start with my staff. If possible, I recommend that. Kinkobo is the most awesome skillup staff you could ask for... hell, the best meleeing staff too. You eat a pamama (cheap as hell, so no need to blow tons of money on sushi), and get +10 accuracy and insanely low (for a staff) delay. You can't get Spirit Taker until level 70, anyway, and Retribution at 75, so you don't miss out for long.

Also, as far as soloing... for me, attack and STR have never been the problem. The problem is the damage you take; WHMs are fragile. I already had tons of evasion+ stuff from my THF to use on my WHM, so I used that... but I'd suggest maybe getting some spell interruption rate-% gear (AF boots are awesome for this, and the AF pants have VIT+3), and using defensive food while soloing. It helps more than you'd think. Also, you probably have your Enhancing magic skill capped from RDM, but if not, cap it ASAP. I found it to help immensely, since Stoneskin is an extremely vital part of soloing as a WHM. I get way less interrupts since I capped my Enhancing, and it lasts a lot longer too. Enhancing Torque is a nice buy at 65, and cheap too; I swap it in for my Stoneskin macro. Other than that, you might wanna level your NIN sub. I honestly didn't use NIN sub until 74, but I had NIN to 40 long before I ever started leveling WHM. Between Utsusemi: Ni, Ichi, and Stoneskin, WHM can do some very nice soloing at 74+. Before that, though, I didn't find it to be of too much help.

Right now as 63 whm I have all skills capped except healing.. enhancing was capped as 64 rdm so will last me a bit too ^^

Thanks all of you for the responses.. I just expect to level and get Hexa in the same day. :3

I was able to successfully and safely tank EP mobs as whm/nin when I was duoing with a blm friend at my current level (51); but I had quite a bit of experience tanking with :Ichi only from war. If you get the hang of it, whm/nin is very capable pre-Ni as long as you don't bite off more than you can chew.

Between Utsusemi, Flash, and Stoneskin, I was able to go for about 4-5 fights before needing a rest (with a limited ~500mp pool). The few times I did get hit steadily, Regen II covered the expense. Holy Breastplate lends a big hand here, as do CC Slacks/+1/+2.

I've stuck with Vermy so far since auto-refresh keeps stoneskin viable longer.. I have the breastplate though (for capped.. and its sessy)
