Wow the flameboard is gay now. BTW, Gear > Skill.

I wasn't gonna say anything, but I am bored, so I will.

Let me throw in Ranger maximum equipment.

2x Hawker's Knife+1 - 6mill
Eurytos' Bow + Hellfire +1 (you gotta keep both archery and marksmanship capped)- 7mill and 4mill respectively
Ammunition - After lvl 60 it comes down to 300k per level if you use the best ammo
Peacock Charm - 15mill
Strider Boots for pulling and War Boots+1 for attacking - 12mill and 1mill
Dusk Trousers (+1) - 2.5mill (5mill)
Amemit Mantle+1 - 1.2 mill
2x Behemoth Ring (+1) - 6mill (who knows?)

That's 54.7mill without counting the cost of ammo and other equip (i.e. Winged Boots/Emp Pin).

Now please do my a favor and stop crying about how much your job has to spend for their equipment.

Dont forget kraken club. A WHM is not efficient melee without one.

LOL yeah. Our uber weapon is the cost of all of his supposed "required" gear combined. Whm really is the cheapest job in the game

I know you're joking Svina, but if a WHM wants to melee, I'd prefer them not to use a Kraken Club. A WHM with a Kraken Club is just a TP Feeder for the mob. I'd prefer them to have a single hit weapon with high damage and/or a lot of attack+, Such as the Darksteel Maul+1 or the Purgatory Mace. If you wan't to build TP faster without causing the target to go apeshit every couple of seconds, use a Martial Wand.

There are a hell of a lot jobs cheaper than whm -> BRD. PLD, BRD, DRK, SAM, BLM - none of these jobs can reach realy high levels and for the most part don't spend very much. As well RDM's most expensive gears aren't even useful in exp party. (except for Vermy cloak)

WHM using Kraken Club~

WHM hits xxx for 5 DMG
WHM hits xxx for 3 DMG
WHM hits xxx for 7 DMG
WHM hits xxx for 8 DMG
WHM hits xxx for 5 DMG
WHM hits xxx for 9 DMG
WHM hits xxx for 6 DMG
WHM hits xxx for 10 DMG
WHM hits xxx for 4 DMG

xxx uses Apeshit Move on WHM
WHM takes 850 DMG
WHM was defeated by xxx.

<That's too bad>

I'd like to throw in an item WHMs can have

Apollo/Pluto - Not Light/Dark staff if we're talking about uber gear.

Trust me, they difference is very noticable. I have a set of HQ staves and have been in manaburn parties with tarus where I was the lowest level and I would consistently do the most damage.

To the topis at hand, for me it's not so much gear > skill as it is exceptional gear&skill > skill. I think it was synical who said that most people endgame are skilled. I find this to be true for the most part. The only way to distinguish yourself is with your gear.

There is too many factors to compare yourself with another BLM and base the difference on your staves alone. Compare against yourself, and against BLM's greatest weakness, high resist mobs, where your gear really matters.

I also don't know if you have zenith mitts or not, but when you switch out AF you lose 10 elemental magic. It's kind of strange, because when doing tests, I found I did the most damage by far with a +int wand on weaker mobs I could solo for traditional testing. But when I tried on IT exp mobs, I noticed I resisted a lot less with ice, hence... overall more damage. I'm just telling you how it feels to me, someone who has the staves too.

Fine, lets play the "I'm a smartass and gonna list the absolute max cost for a class, even though no one would probably ever go this far" game

Apollo/Pluto Staff - about 1.2m total
Kraken Club, since it's SOOOOO needed - 20mil
Darksteel Maul - 700k
Holy Shield +1 - 700k
Full +1 Blessed set with Aristocrat Tunic - 50mil
Every whm spell - roughly 2mil
Serket Ring - 2mil
Astral Ring - 600k, or if you want, Vivian Ring, many many mil more
Peacock Charm, since it's SOOOOOO needed - ~15mil
Astral Earring - ~1-2mil
Phantom Earring +1 - 1mil+
Penitant's Rope - 800k
Mahatma Cape - ~20mil

You mentioned that the brown belt quest is hard. I'm well aware of this, I'm doing it myself to get a brown belt for my monk. Regardless, the equipment CAN BE FREE, if you're willing to take the time for it. And the NM rams for purple belt aren't on 24 hours timers, the normal NM's spawn a couple times a day; the HNM rams, steelfleece and bloodtear are the 24-hour pops, but they also drop the horns. Brown belt asside, you're still jacking up the price of mnk gear to prove your point.

Right, that's a mistake on my part - regardless, I've spent more than a few hours spamming Wide Scan hoping to see Lumbering or Rampaging and neither of them pop enough for it to be worthwhile unless I'm really jonesing for my Black Belt. And all of my prices came from current Jeuno AH.

I've seen mnk's in full af gear before that did perfectly fine. They didn't change it out for an ability, they fought in it. So it can be done, and it often is. Not everyone has millions of gil to spend on their equipment, like you aparently do, so they have to make do with what they have and just get decent equip.

That's my point - you can choose to go along with the free gear and be like every other Monk/melee/whatever class there is, or you can make yourself stand out. Why is that a bad thing?

Yes, you'll obviously hit more often than me, I never said you wouldn't. You keep making blind assumptions based on what others say, a lot of which seem to be wrong. I simply said that I expect them to at least have the level 54 rings, because that's a reasonable expectation to have. And you having better gear than me isn't going to shame me into getting better gear. Everyone works towards getting better gear, anyone who wants to do well, myself included. I don't really care what you have, beyond curiosity, as long as you dont have equip that you really should have replaced long ago. But expecting me to spend millions on equip or you consider me "gimp" is unreasonable.

Personal choice, I guess. The reason I've stopped leveling MNK and am currently making the 4.5 million I need for Cross-Counters was simply because I saw another level 50 MNK - in a different party, no less - with them on. If he can get them, so can I.

I fail to see how skill comes into play there. The skill people are refering to throughout this topic is how well they play their job, not their buying skill. 10 mp vs 2 mnd is a judgement call, simple as that. I liked the +2 mnd, and i've never said "damn, I wish I had just 10 more mp."

Sure, personal preference comes in, but from my WHM playing (which, sure was only 37 levels) I always went for MP, even as a Taru. Never saw that much use for +MND gear.

No, leather armor is not fine in the dunes FOR A TANK. Again you're not reading what people are writing, at most you're skimming it and then making assumptions. Tanks should have at least the NQ of the highest def gear their level. Scale equip is cheap, so they should have it. If I see a pld wearing leather gear in kazham, either he's buying new gear or I'm gone.

My mistake - I read 'leather' and thought 'lizard.' Sorry. Got them confused.

Wow, what a neat little insult =D shame it's been used almost as much as the "you are the weakest link" bullsh-!t.

Sorry, but he wanted to decide to try and show off by posting the cost of the absolute best stuff, wether his class even needs it or not - I simply countered. Personally, I'd REALLY rather no one use Kraken Club or Peacock Charm in cost-comparing classes because it's an item equally useful to any and all classes, and thus shouldn't even be included. Believe it or not, I know RNG and NIN cost a damn lot for ammo and such, ut when it comes to that "best equipment", WHM is often shafted.

Compared the 70JSE shoes, any of them, to the WHM cost. Which is more?
Oh, you get Strider Boots. Right. WHM gets Heralds Gaiters. Which is more now?
Scorpion Harness vs Noble's Tunic....blah...blah...blah.

You can't say "WHM can't whine, look how much Scorp Harness costs vs Errant stuff", because most of the classes that'd use Scorp Harness can use Cardinal Vest and such at the same level as Errant. Can't compare stuff that has a 15-level difference.

If you post the absolute best stuff a class can use, I'll happily post back about my class, plain and simple. If you wanna post novelty stuff that no one's expected to even have in their whole time of playing the game, I can do the same thing. It is really, really tiring though, to hear "WHM have it easy. they're forced to pay almost 2mil for some scroll at 70, but I hafto get this 7mil bow.." NO YOU DON'T. No one expects you to have that bow. No one's gonna go, "WTF don't you have Eurytos'?". People most likely will wtf@you not having R3 if they get killed in a bad link at ~L72. There's a difference between wants and needs...don't need cross-counters. Nor Kote. Nor Emp HP. Nor Snipers. Nor Eurytos'. Nor Gluttony Sword.

No R3 is a gimped WHM, according to alot of people. Thus, it's more or less required. No Eurytos or Scorp Harness (blah blah blah) won't make someone point you out as a gimp...thus it's not needed...thus it can't be used to compete with the REQUIRED gear cost of WHM....

This has been a really long post by me ^^;; I'll shut up now~

Lol Colbwa, well unlike shitty THFs i realize the importance of TIMING my satas so my party isn't waiting 45-55 seconds for my cooldown before they can fight the next mob in the chain.

Right...

So you wait for the puller to get all the way to your group before you use SATA...wasting precious seconds.

Nothing will change my mind about Vang being one of the worst players in final fantasy history.

Oh but he's got good gear, though.

Comprehension is not one of your key traits is it? I do the pulling, but before I will never finish the mob with Sata unless I absolutely have to. That way it's ready for the pull and start of the next fight so my party doesn't have to wait for sata to be up. Get it? Got it? Good.

and btw you and I have never partied.

I completely agree, Vang.

I can't comprehend someone who wastes precious SATA time and only does 1 a battle.
