Yeah....

HQ Light staff increases my cure potency by 10% (I think) and will keep my carbuncle free forever, HQ Dark staff makes Fenrir cheaper which is awesome.

HQ staves help WHM for debuffs. As well with elemental seal and pluto staff my WHM can aspir 100+ off of crabs. But then again I'd only bother with the WHM based debuffs as a WHM, e.g. para, slow.
I've been using HQ light staff for flash, it makes it stick a bit longer I think. Extremely handy with Ninja tank. My WHM itself is static with RDM so I don't really use the debuffs so I can't comment... but they could at least gain out of HQ light and dark.

meh.. i can't see how it would really be worth that kind of money just for a few extra on an aspir or whatever.. maybe I just haven't partied with my WHM in awhile to really know what the mobs i need to be up against right now are like.

I just can't bring myself to spend a million gilz on an item that I only use half the time since I'm leveling another job right now.

I mean honestly, is it REALLY that big of a difference?

As for a WHM, if you only get the +1 light staff, youre golden! :P

Is there any more to the Apollo Staff besides higher DoT (I use club when soloing), +1 to MND (not significant) and 5 more % to light-based spells' damage? Again, I don't use staff when soloing, and I don't nuke in exp party.

No Panda for the most part most mage gear gets nowhere the same return in value for gil spent at all than melee gear. It's merely a question of dedication(or obsession maybe) to your job.

And Sabia I think in the end you should look at the usefulness of Vermillion Cloak if you're going to delve into 3+ million gil for MP range. Vermillion and HQ staves... with your MP max I'm sure that at this point efficiency dwarfs the need for maximum unless you're dipping towards 0 mp often which I doubt you do. +Mp is kind of funny being that it's so so important but at the same time more times than not doesn't do a damn thing.

As for the whole supply/demand thing... I'd say that simply if they kept it at the lower price, the result would be people would be camping the AH instead for something they can afford but can't ever find for sale. Of course... myself I'm just going to wait til that earring goes down in price. Let's face it the only time you'd ever really feel the difference is solo play anyway.

Vermillion isnt really a viable option for most players Fire. And I know for a fact that the V cloak hits a nerve with Sabia since she has wanted it forever, but could never afford it, for fucks sakes, 5 million? Jeez!!

No Cubs, I have some pretty nice gear and I worked my ass for it. All elemental staves, Apollo, Steppe Stone, Austere Gear etc. I don't mind paying and saving lord knows I've done it the ENTIRE TIME I"VE BEEN PLAYING! Granted I don't have all my HQ elemental staves but I'm currently working on saving for my next one. Do I mind the prices of HQ Elemental staves being 1 mil each? Nope, they're worth it. It's when shit triples in price that really pisses me off because 90% of the time it's just not worth the cash people fork out for it. Did I think a vermy cloak was worth (based on stats) 1-2 mil gil? hell yeah, do I think it's worth 5...well no. What pisses me off is working my ass off for stuff I really don't think it worth it just because I'm expected to have it.

Well, see, that's the thing, we as players DO have a choice. We can work our asses off for gear that goes up in price or we can 'do without' and accept the consequences of that.

For someone as proud of your character as you are, it's really NOT much of a choice, but yeah, the choice is there.

I think my austere gear was well worth the investment, same with my elemental staves and steppe stone. Don't talk to me like I'm bitching about people who have more money than me, I'm not - I'm bitching about people who have more money than I do and spend it like idiots forcing the rest of the game population to match their bid.

Well, the thing is, what good is it to stockpile gil? I don't keep more than a few hundred thousand on me unless I'm saving it for something extravagant, because I'm not earning interest on it and normally buying something at today's price virtually guarantees it's going to go up in a fairly short time. Example: I was getting into BST and bought a Monster Signa for ~190k when my BST was 12. I stopped leveling it at 16, never once equipped the thing, and sold the Signa back for nearly 400k. Investing in good drops and sitting on them would have made anyone a dozen fortunes right now.

Congrats...you have TONS of gil, but last time I checked your comment on your monk was completely irrelivant in this argument. I jsut saw it as a way for you to show off. If you were buying all your gear on your monk and paid double the price on Kote just because, then that would of made your comment actually belong in this argument.

Nearly every piece I've bought jumped at least 50%, sometimes more from when I wanted it and when I bought it. Kote from 200k to 650k, B.Belt from 400k to 550, Cross-Counters from 2 million to 4, and so on. And as (from what I can see) the most gear-reliant class in the game you need that stuff ASAP or your 1hr LFG times turn into 5-6+ simply because what good is a MNK that can't punch well? Do I show off a little? Well, sure, I think I deserve it, mostly because I'm getting the opportunity to change, a party at a time, the stigma that surrounds MNKs thanks to the Brady guide and a lot of random crappy players before me.

There's shit in this game that's worth the money. HQ Staves, Serket Rings, Elemental Torques, Hauby's, Scorp Harnesses etc then you have crap that's not.[/quote

No argument here.]

Oh and about the Camping for RA/EX if you make some good friends in this game it won't be a problem. I wasn't home for work but I fully offered my services to Lanien on his Ose hunt and he had tons of friends willing to help out. It's a community driven game and if you're not a dick you shouldn't have problems getting help.

Ose and Carmine Dobsonfly are apples and oranges. A handful of high-levels can slaughter Ose every 4 or 5 hours (hell, I'm pretty sure a 75BLM could solo him given a bit of luck) Dobsonfly needs:

- 12-13 players minimum (4-5 or those BLMs or BRDs)
- Riverne Site-#A01 access
- A ToD (since they're a 21-24 hour spawn)
- Those same 11+ others being very altruistic in giving you the Sallet, since every other drop from them is also rare/ex.

The piece is some of the best gear (even to endgame) for most melee classes, but there's no way in hell I'd even consider asking anyone to help me with it just because of the time and lack of reward involved.

PS: this argument isn't about the Astral Earring, I know I'm not going to get it unless a Padfoot I claim drops it and that doesn't bother me. I just used that peice of gear as an example because it's something I check on a regular basis to see who got the drop and the price hike was so incredibly stupid.

So you're saying you'd use it instead of pocketing 5 million+? Honestly, at that level of SMN you should have 1000 MP minimum as a Taru. Adding another 2% MP to your total (and at the cost of probably 5% of your HP) is, well... it just seems absolutely unnecessary.

Well if you are talking about astral earring price you can compare the two. Their prices are similar but one is more useful. If you wanna argue that vermy not with the $$$ then the astral earring is crap for the price.

  I agree man, neither is worth the $$$.

Well as RDM I have NQ elemental staves that I use for enfeebling and magic bursts only. I can honestly say, that I am rarely resisted on IT mobs, but I also strive to keep my magic skills capped. I bought thunder, dark, ice, wind, and earth staves. Fire does not help me with any enfeeble except for burn and my static bursts ice/water so I rarely cast Fire II unless solo. At any rate, I don't see how the HQ staves make a big difference for red mage unless you're rich and have cash to burn. The only HQ stave I could consider getting along the lines is Pluto's staff for sleeping mobs and stuff. But even then, I've slept IT mobs successfully numerous times with my NQ staff.

Anyways Sabs, good luck on getting Padfoot, feel free to hit me up if you need someone to camp with you, I always help out nice people and I know you've been working hard at getting this earring for yourself!

it only went up by 1/4 of it's value at the time... gonna cry about this go look at anything that comes from a BCNM.... look at erase, look at elemental torque... elemental was 900-1m (more than it was worth) and jumped by 1/4... <^> - .- is all i have to say....

Notes on Aldiel, he's a cool guy, always ready to help out, he's just recently come back to the server, he has 2 character on 2 other servers that are 75 mnk and 75 pld respectively... his rdm/pld thing was when he was in denial of the fact he couldn't melee with his char after being a melee and a paladin on other servers.... i think i fixed him of it... he's fairly religious and a cool guy to talk with if you got some issues to deal with... (My Grandfather passed away recently and he was really cool about helping me through that...) i met aldiel on the NA PS2 release, instead of sharing the "Let's MPK the PS2 noobs, train orcs into sandoria's gates!!!" mentality i went off as whm and PL'd this guy and a few others up through the first hard steps... not to valkurm levels (by the considered standard of 13 min at the time) but it was a head start...

When you're on that scale of gil whats another mil? EG once told me he didn't think loaning 1mil to a good friend unreasonable.... even in the beggining of this game i knew people with more gil than god intended, for some of that crew (Here's looking back at reficul, YB) what would an extra mil be to you... Reficul just called off a 300k loan about a month after NA PC release... he had aquired 26(?) pairs of leaping boots before he left... he was one of the first people to farm stacks of morion talthum... if his investments and gear's value also went up with inflation that's pocket change...

Well the armor i bought for 100k more is now fucking 100 less.... wtf and my weapon...

Aldiel was first person on my budd list =) and i was the first person to say hi to him when he came back online... and yeh he told me alot about religion hehe.Kinda went over my head but he was like the first high level guy i saw hehe.

You also have to realize, Sabia, that Earring bonuses are very, very minimal. +45 MP is a huge chunk. So why sell the Astral for the same Price as a Hades+1(12? MP?)

Most Earrings influence a non-resists stat in values of 1-5. Top that off with a large amount of MP using Jobs, with an item that drops off a 21-24 hour pop NM, who can spawn in one of 4 locations in Lufaise. It's going to cause a lot of demand vs. supply. If anyone is to blame, it's the people who see items, and immediately think "omfg I need this or I cannot play my job!!!!!!!!!"

Galaika, you're such a sweety <3

As for IF the astral earring was an RA/EX item I'd not expect people to camp 24 hours with me, it'd be up to me to get the TOD and then call in back up, it wouldn't be all that hard really.

And yes I would wear the earring and not sell it. But like I mentioned before, this isn't about the monetary value of the astral earring and if I think it's worth it, it's about retarded price hikes. If you've got more money than you know what to do with go level goldsmithing....

As for the vermy, I really don't think it's worth 5 mil for refresh...if I can afford it one day power to me (or I can get my own cloth even better) but until then there are other things on the list to buy that come way before that hippy tunic.

Why is it necessary to fuel the need for greedy behaviour? This game is not supposed to be an Economist's little pet project testing behaviour of supply and demand. Isn't it a game? Isn't it a MMORPG?

If this game is supposed to be about INTERACTING with other people, well, I'm sure you can try to find people to fight mobs with.

If this game is about farming alone for 2 weeks straight to buy something.... where is the MMORPG aspect of this game? Other than between the buyer and the seller?

greed·y: 1. Excessively desirous of acquiring or possessing, especially wishing to possess more than what one needs or deserves.

I didn't know you had the ability to decide what someone needs or deserves. Raising the price on a rare item when you know you have a very good chance of it selling for said price is not greed. It's finding a market that has been getting away with paying less than they were willing to.
