They look @ us the same way, we r a threat to them thats why they hate western people, and like u said killing ppl will only end up in bigger conlicts.
I have to wonder when the last time the United States invaded a Middle Eastern nation (or a attacked a city, etc) without provocation.
To put that into context.
The first Gulf War was a United Nations war. Iraq invaded Kuwait and the UN said go back, Saddam, and he said no. So, while US dominated, it was a coalition (of mostly Europe and the US). And they stopped when they pushed Iraqis out of Kuwait. So no, that war does not and should not count as a US invasion without provocation, IMO.
Afghanistan (and Iraq, rightly or wrongly) is/are the result of 9/11. If 9/11 didn't happen, the US wouldn't have bombed the crap out of those two nations. Maybe 9/11 happened because of the first Gulf War (when the US bombed the crap out of Iraq), but ultimately, they are retaliation (and a bit of preventativeness) for an act.
Possibly you could say that the US backing of the Taliban in the Afghan-Soviet war was US meddling (it was), but hell, we backed they guys that WON, who were defending their nation. And of course we backed Saddam vs Iran (after Iran went all kidnappy on us in the late 70's), but both of those were, sadly, just sideshows of the US vs the USSR. Doesn't make it right or wrong, but in neither instance did we actually attack a Middle Eastern nation, and in one we saved one from being taken over by the Soviets (only to allow them to be "taken over" by the Taliban...I'm not sure which would have been worse).
No, the Radical Muslims hate us because we don't hate Israel. That's what it comes down to, ultimately. It doesn't help that they are still in the "convert or die" mentality in their "peaceful" religion's development (a phase that Christianity surely did go through, but is past it, or at least was before 2001 for sure - hell, most Westerners who the Muslims probably think of as Christians aren't really Christians).
Utlimately it's the Israel issue, and the newer religion issue. Judaism is older than Christinaity (and had it's share of violence before the Romans showed up), and Christianity is older than Islam. Both Judaism and Christianity have matured past the 'convert or die' stage, while Islam hasn't. And, fundmentally (for reasons I'm not all that clear on, to be honest), the Muslims hate the Jews. And the Christians, generally, do NOT (any longer) hate the Jews.
The fact that Israel was created by UN mandate, not US mandate, and the fact that Africa and the Middle East were old colonial holdings of the UK, not the US, really means that all the fucked up problems that led to Israel being created in the 1940's/50's weren't at all the fault of the US, who had done very little, internationally, before WWI and WWII (and were late entering each as we were, basically, isolationists).
I just hate it when people say (or imply) that the US had this coming. And so I tend to at least partially agree (however horrid and immoral it would be to actually do it) that the only answer to the whole region's problems is to carpet bomb the whole area, including Israel. Just get rid of both sides of the argument at the same time. I know that's not the way things should, or will, happen, but it would be the way to come the closest to getting rid of the problem (albeit it would create all new ones).
