I'm curious to know what most BLMs around my level are focusing on. I once was obessed with getting BLMAF2, but I was also wondering what other options there are and what may be stronger, or comparible to BLMAF2.

Thanks in advanced.

Sky is always good for your Zenith Mitts, but they can obtained doing HNM too. Sea is great for BLM to get two of the three capes offered and if you stay long enough to get a Novio Earring. Assaults for Yigit head and feet is usually something BLMs can do in down time to get their gear. Dynamis is excellent for BLMs to obtain the feet, legs, and head which get used the most. Also if you want to commit to something long term there is Salvage for Morrigans gear.

If I had to list them as if you're new on the endgame scene I'd say it goes Dynamis > HNM > Sea > Sky > Salvage > Assault, but that's my personal preference.

I've been looking at different gear for the last hour, and it seems the AF2 hat and body seem to be the best I can find for myself. I think I will keep doing Dynamis till I get everything I need, then go find a Sea LS and get that earring and that mericifil cape. ^^ That won't be for aloooooooong time though.

Psylent pretty much hit the nail on the head, but I'd like to add Merits will always be good, and if you can get a full set of yigit, the hMP + refresh effect is really nice.

Peace,
Shmed

BLM AF2 Feet and head aren't the necessary pieces in my honest opinion, neither is the belt. You should strive for Legs and Body however, unless you are in a salvage shell and have the means to upgrade a robe.

It's not all about the Elemental and MAB gear sets though, as a BLM you should be focusing also on Enfeebling and Dark Magic (perhaps not so much of this spell category) which means obtaining the Igqira Gear (Genie if you have most of your other purchasable gear) and also a resting macro set.

HQ AF1 doubles up for a resting macro set, however there are other pieces that are better, such as Yigit Seraweels, Goliard Clogs etc.

There is a massive sweep of gear for BLM that is available, and it's simply not feasible to assume that you could get all of it quickly. For example, you will find it incredibly difficult to obtain Assault, Salvage and Nyzul gear all at the same time, hence it should be done semi sequentially, going from Assault > Salvage and Nyzul (with 2 Assault tags being used to fund salvage, the rest going to Nyzul.)

LoL...

I went with most of the stuff you have to obtain in my above post... The Rare/Ex stuff. The stuff you can buy, you should be maxing out enfeebling magic gear(and merits). There's nothing like a blm who can stick enfeebles for his group to free up someone else's duties (Dynamis comes to mind after a pull or link)

Hat and legs are the only real good pieces of af2 for blm.

The feet are meh, yigit are way better, the conserve mp doesn't kick in often enough (more than it already did), I guess if you're doing non-nuking stuff could be a macro in pieces.

Gloves suck, zenith mitts/+1 are better, though they have nice dark magic skill, it's not the world's most important piece.

Body has refresh, other stats can be beat by weskit+eliteberet/af2 option, black cloak accomplishes the exact same as the af2 body. (Hint: never nuke in either black cloak or af2 body)

Legs are the best piece of blm af2, although very situational, the bonus is significant, one of the best damage boosters in the game to a spell.

Hat has a nice chunk of elemental skill, though due to diminishing results, you can stick elemental elsewhere and use an elite beret and accomplish the same. The nice thing about hat is it lets you hit a target amount of skill with less item slots, so you can focus on adding dmg on other slots rather than skill. (lol druid slops)

Belt is nice for nuking for a high number, other than that, penitent's rope is much better. I'd only use belt in manaburns/solo, or situations where me getting hate is not a bad thing.

So for the hat, an elite beret/+1 is comparable, and for the legs, mahatma slops do an ok job, just won't be able to do awe-inspiring numbers on thunder/ice days. Everything else isn't that great in the first place.

Save legs and hands, AF2 shouldn't be a priority whatsoever.

Feet: Garbage piece. Use Rostrums or Yigit.

Body: Refresh is.... well refresh. I've never been a fan. No other stats besides MP.

Hat: Unless you are doing HNM where you get resisted out the ass, the elemental skill does nothing for topping your damage output. For enfeebling, use Igqira Tiara.

Legs: Extra damage if the days line up? Amazing. Considering this stacks up with your Sea Obis, this piece can help you hit 2100+ Freeze II's.

Hands: Don't discount the extra damage, even if it is on MB. Good for Fafnir/Aspid if you do that sort of thing. For the non-HNM'ers, the +15 Dark skill can't be beat as a Swap in piece.

As for the other mentioned pieces:
Sea Capes: Situational Gear. Merciful: Good for stacking +elemental, the other one is good if you want to use for an enfeebling swap.
Novio: I don't think anyone would pass this up.
Prudence Torque: Good for maxing damage if you don't get resisted (read: lots of elemental merits)

Things I would consider manadatory for any good BLM:
Obis: Get them. (+10% damage for day, +10% for each weather icon)
HQ Staves: Get them. (+5% to damage)
AF2 Pants: See above.
Ugga Pendant: +8 MAB when MP low. Excellent.
Sorcerer's Swap: +10MAB with 75% HP. Excellent piece again, and truely separates the good from the bad BLM.
Merits: Max Elemental Skill (8/8), Max Potencies (5 Ice and Thunder) a minimum.
Other sets: Enfeebling, Resting, Dark sets for specific spells.

I personally am striving to get started on Salvage or Assault to get the Yigit and get started on the Morrigans set. Those again, will max your damage even more.

Hope that helps.

I agree with most of what you said except for these 2 points.

The ugly pendant is only +8MAB

Sorcerer's Ring: You can be a good blm without but you can be a very good blm with one(I'm like 0/10 on that f'n TnT BCNM >.<).

Not sure what you're saying. I just said that Morrigan is all you need for BLM since the entire set beats all other pieces available in the same slot :P Well, unless you get resisted a lot

Corrected Shmed. :D

Ugga pendant is still good regardless. :D

Maybe I should have said "average" instead of bad as well.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not commenting about you. ;D

Maybe if all you do is salvage.

I didn't figure you were as it was just a general comment. I just had to respond because we all know I'm Deadly Shmedly the Impossible to Gauge Black Mage :bb:

Keep the posting coming. I'm gathering tons of information that I need. From what I've seen so far, most equipment is a "Depends on situation." type thing. Looks like I will continue to collect BLM AF2, then work on some Sea items (I.. want.. that.. .cape and ring.) Then move onto Assualt.

Truthfully, I'm more interested in having fun then being "The best BLM ever."
Though, finishing off with a BM that hits for 1800+ is always a pleasure.

Maybe if all you do is salvage.
Well, aren't I the lucky one?

And you can still get them if Salvage is all you do. Only need to do it twice a week like Dynamis. Sure, it will be slower then Dynamis, but the pieces are also better, so it evens out.

If i was to get item for my BLM i would spend time in salvage before any other areas. If you do salvage you will get points for Yigit set.

First Yigit glove do not beat A:hands (or Morrigan gloves) but dmg-wise, the difference is like 3 dmg on a tier 4 ( i have both -.-).

Second Feet is now pretty common among BLMs.

Third NEED points to do salvage lol. Get those point in assault then do salvage^^ Also salvage groups are short, like 8-15 ppl top. So there are chance you might not be on 5th+ position for gear, unlike say dynamis and AF2 parts.

hell one monk join our shell recently and he almost has 3 parts completed.

what you should focus on? getting everything, versatility is key.
