Blmaf2 Vs ????

This is because women tarutaru is TOO FLAT. Not that attractive to women... not everyone choose race due to stats.

I think this is the best reason there could ever be given.

Picking a character solely on looks without any regard to its base stats (with the exception of mules XD) is silly IMO.

FFS, if you need to look at some hot bitches, there is a whole intarweb out there full of pr0n.

In all honesty, quite a lot of "pr0n" women aren't all that hot. Although you usually don't think about their overall look once they go naked, so I guess it all works out. I mean, compare your average pr0n woman to, say, Jessica Biel. There are some very good looking ones out there, sure, but usually their overall look is average. At least until their clothes fall off.

Either way, I'd have to agree. If I had a chance to chose a new race, I'd probably chose Mithra :p

/end derail?

I'm gonna attempt to transform the derail into a constructive part of the topic.

First off, race isn't that important, while taru can be "best" anyone can make a great blm, I'd be that this guy is a good blm based on his gear alone.

However if you must have your character look hot while doing stuff there's always dat mods, and even a windower plugin to change your race. To further elaborate on gearsets gonna do a small show of the gearsets I would use for soloing a mob, while being a mithra!

First off my "town set" which is what I should look like when not actively doing anything at all. The set is a mix of looks, and show-off gear.

town.jpg

Before starting a fight, I buff up wearing my mnd setup to get the most use out of my buffs like stoneskin, by having 114mnd exactly, I can take up to 350 dmg from hits.

mnd.jpg

After I get my buffs up I put on my hp-down set (for soloing or blm burns, not usually serious events), this can double as an mp set also for a free first nuke.

hpdown.jpg

While nuking solo I aim for full MAB, and int where appropriate to maximize my damage while nuking, while fighting something important to note is my distance from the mob, I don't nuke it up close, being able to have a nice distance helps a ton so the monster takes time to get to you for the few seconds after a nuke that you're 100% vulnerable and can't cast spells.

nuking.jpg

After a nuke, sleeping is vital (this is me /whm since too lazy to get to sea /rdm), this is where your stoneskin and blink power matters the most, if you had gravity on the monster then this isn't important, but gravity can be resisted if you get unlucky so being able to put distance and sleep asap is an important skill if you're gonna solo on blm. Notice where the mob is in relation to me, despite me being at basically max casting range when my nuke went off.

enfeeb.jpg

Between fights having a strong hmp gearset makes it a ton faster to get back into the action for faster kills and higher chains if you're exping, and probably one of the most important things to have on blm (and mages in general)

resting.jpg

Finally, the least obvious gearset would be the "normal" one, when in a danger zone, but not actively casting a spell, the stats I aimed for were refresh, -damage taken, the curse/evasion in igqira, evasion in general, and defense of the piece itself. The set includes two unique pieces (cheviot/novia), the rest is picked up from all my other sets, so it's not exactly tanking gear, but it gets the job done.

P.S. yes the main point of this post is to post the screen shots. =D yay for being bored but not sleepy at 3:30am.

Pshhh, I am unimpressed by all your gear swaps, Dave. You wanna see good gear, check out my 1337 rdm setup!

I always pick my characters based on looks, lol. In MMO's like FFXI any race can be good at every job anyway, so IMO it's better to pick a character based on looks, rather than stats. And honestly, unless you have veteran friends you're not going to really know how all the stats of your character factor in anyway. For instance, someone may pick a taru because they think the INT and MP is undoubtedly best, but they won't realize with a sorcerer's ring they'll have something like 400 HP. Or that they'll wind up having to level ninja for all their merit parties and wish they had more STR.

You can always get good gear to compensate for your race, but once you make a character you're stuck with it. (Well, not really stuck with it. You can always reroll, but you'll have to relevel alllllll over again and especially in a game like FFXI it freaking sucks to have to restart but whatever you get the idea and I'm tired and babbling anyway <_<)

While I agree that there's nothing wrong with choosing a character based on looks to an extent, there's still something a bit disturbing about "DaveMAN" being a Mithra. :spiteful:

I think choosing this race because of that job is stupid. Cos we all know how stats matter in this game .. Also you have to have a rather big knowlege of the game : when you start you don't know anything lol. I chose my race and hair because .. of what they look lol. I chose my job randomly.

Looks > Stats. :nyam:
At least as far as race goes. Just because it's an MMO, doesn't mean I have to look bad doing it. Besides, Mithra are tied for second in INT with humes and second highest MP as well. Not bad for BLMs at all although nowhere near as high as tarus, but I do play other jobs and I can compensate a lot for stats via gear.

I don't think broad generalizations like that are a good thing. There are quite a few people who know things about the game before they play, whether its because they know other people who play or they took the time to look into it online.

And, to clarify, I don't think that picking a character based on looks is a bad thing, I just don't think it should be the only thing. I have known a few people who have done this and were unhappy with their choice. (For the record, I know some people who have done this and are totally happy.) There was one Elvaan I knew who started as a BLM. I knew him when he was in his 40's or 50's. Everything out of his mouth was about how SE isn't fair because his INT and MP pool suck and fuck taru for all their advantages. Instead of asking other successful Elvaan BLMs, he just bitched about how unhappy he was. Had he done a little research beforehand (or just not been an emo idiot), he wouldn't have had those things to complain about.

Research in this game is a good thing, whether it is for a quest/mission or on what gear you want or in what character you'll start out with. Know what you're getting yourself into is all I'm saying because I don't wanna hear you bitch later.

I was bloodwarping, but thanks for noticing. For inventory and laziness reasons, and the fact its much easier to make up the exp next time I merit I always bloodwarp.

<Carebear edit>

And I think the point is that any race can be a good <insertjobhere>, so the stats doesn't make that much of a difference, However, an equally geared taru BLM and taru elvaan, the taru will always win in pure damage. But then again, the taru won't be as good a melee as the elvaan will if they're equally geared.

Some people chose a char that resembles themselves.

That's almost as funny as your attack on zoolander's tiamat post...post about what you know. You don't know what I look like, you don't know jack about Tiamat.

Someone needs anger management classes. I just said that some people chose a char that resembles themselves. Hell, if you look through the pics at ffxplayers.com, you'll see a lot of people put a pic of their char besides their own pic to show the resemblance. It wasn't a personal attack. Did I touch a touchy subject?

Look at your post and what you quoted of me, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what you were eluding too...

Because everything I say is 100% serious, amirite?

It doesn't take a a diploma in biological engineering to understand a joke. If it do, then apparently the majority have one.

What have the world come to when everything is considered a personal insult.:omg:

When trying to sound smart or just being a smart-ass like you're blatently doing, using proper grammer helps as well. Free english lesson, yes I know this isn't your native tongue. Take the time to do it right rather than spitting out improper fragments that make it sound like you belong on a porch with a harmonica in your mouth:

Watch and learn kids, this is a desperate attempt to get revenge by a kid that got hurt. I'd give you a cookie if I could, but I'm all out.

The thing is in a lot of cases, you have to trade off one stat for another. In the case of Elvaan while they do a vast amount of STR, the highest of all races, they also lack a vast amount of DEX which is now becoming far more important that once previously was. They also have the highest MND, but severely lack MP. Mithra lack a lot of STR and MND, but we make up for it in other ways like increased DEX, AGI and moderate amounts of INT and MP. No matter what race you chose, they will always have some added boost to the job that other races do not and that's the mark of a standard MMO.
