My thoughts were all confuddled because my party only just now broke, so let's elaborate a bit.
She said in Whitegate that since she was /whm, that she was there "for support only" and wouldn't pull. Sounds fair enough, our party also had a thief and a ranger in it.
Second or third mob, "I'm feeling froggy, so I'm going to melee!" She jumps in with her bloody rapier and begins to miss a lot. As referenced in the post, she did eventually hit a 9 point Shining Blade.
But let's not just bitch about her gear, because that would be uncouth. I tried to be subtle about trying to convince her to shoot things. Skeith was landing 1k+ Sidewinders, so I asked what level Cor gets Slugshot. Eventually dig out of her that her marksmanship is 144.
When asked about cards, she didn't say a word. I don't think she knows what Quickdraw is, because you don't really use it in East Ronfaure S. When asked why she wasn't shooting, she said "Well, I'm not /nin so I'm missing an archer's knife. Also I'm not /rng for sharpshot." I don't think she used a single point of MP during the entire length of party.
Furthermore, while we were in Whitegate, she said something like "I'm going to go /nin!" and no one said a word. Then she zoned and came out on /whm. For some reason.
She was using lv1 ammo, and to be honest, I can't tell you if she hit anything, because I have misses filtered. I didn't see her do much of anything the whole party because of that.
It got lost in the log because the whole conversation basically happened while we were fighting, but she also made it a point to wonder why we weren't using Samurai roll. I explained that at that level, there aren't really hit builds or meaningful Store TP and she said "But I paid 60k for it." As if that means anything. Congrats, you got a die. Learn how to use it, please.
I tried to be nice, honestly. I didn't insult her gear, I didn't really outright say anything terribly offensive. It got a little heated at the end, but once she started rolling OFF OF LUCKY NUMBERS and I told her she was doing so, I got
"Meh. I'm not a hardcore/professional player, so I don't care." (spelling and grammar and punctuation mine)
That's the last straw for me. Not knowing what's relevant? Okay. Not being the best geared? That's fine, I didn't say a word about a Corsair using a Headlong belt (which is still 150k+, and should be sold immediately to, I don't know, buy a back piece, or another earring, or a proper weapon.), I didn't say anything about her piece of shit sword, I didn't start in about gear at all.
But when you try to shove off your inability to do your job on not being "hardcore/professional" you have offended me, sir/madam. There are some elitist pricks in this game, there are some really snobby people that would have outright said, in party, right in front of her, "This corsair fucking blows, replace her with anything. Even a Pup will do better than her." What she said was the equivalent of "I don't know how, but I don't take it seriously so it's okay."
I party with people who don't know everything, I party with people who can't afford everything, I party with people who literally just don't know any better. I will not party with people who refuse to /try/ because they're not "pro." Fuck that noise, you're going to get called on it when people realize inviting you was a HUGE mistake.
Also, the petty comments right before she dropped about "Oh, what about a gimp sam with a soboro who can't take hate and using seigan" really steamed my corn, too. It really shouldn't, I mean, a gimp trying to tell someone else how to play shouldn't really bug me, but what pissed me off the most was that I'm sure she thought she had valid points. RDM NIN THF SAM RNG gimpCOR. I should totally be rocking Hasso the entire time while /war for first provoke, and I should absolutely be using a polearm to rip hate off of the tank. That's what makes a real melee real, amirite? Having not a fucking clue how to cooperate with your tank and THF to make sure only one person is taking damage? Go back to your gimp SAM and no clue how to play your jobs, I'll be over here contributing to my parties AND having fun.
Slashrant.
