Final Fantasy XIV

Lazy in that they copy/pasted the same thing onto 4+ boxes. :P

For those of you who don't know, the website has info on gameplay and their idea of a job system. It sounds like we're limited to melee, mage, gatherer (?), and craftsman.

It's possible that in equipping certain weapons for your melee class, you can get the abilities of different job classes like we have here in ffxi, but it's hard to tell from the screenshots.

Check it out: [link]

Im not really seeing how this "armoury" system is any different than the current ffxi system of job switching.

I recall a few of you arguing it was different, can someone explain how they think it will be?

Seems almost exactly the same as switching jobs in cities, except now you have to switch even to be a fisherman or blacksmith, which I think is retarded.

I suppose i am one of the people who really just want a MASSIVE graphics update, and an entirely new world of content, but with basically the same gameplay as XI.

Also , the teleporting deal seems a bit stupid as well, what are your opinions on that? I mean isnt half the fun exploring by foot, air, boat...etc

Just because those are the ones available yet, doesn't mean they will be the only ones available. Will likely release more later. as more info about the game is revealed

Either way, I don't think gatherer/craftsman will be actual battle jobs.

Actually, I'd say that those are the only four Disciplines. Just that inside those disciplines, we'll see new skills added as time goes on.
So yeah, there'll be new jobs. They just won't be called... jorbs.

That's actually all that I was really wanting with FF14 as well. Fix some of the gameplay issues people have been bitching about since it came out but were "designed way too early to go back and fix;" maybe add jumping, and call it a day. Leave the great, unique stuff about FF11 alone and just update the graphics.

Oh, that's what he ment. I thought ment he thought that would be all the classes that would be in the game :p

hand, land, war and magic, so far. I'm guessing we'll see something like:

Disciples of the Hand
Blacksmith
Tailor
Chef
Woodworker
Alchemist

Disciples of the Land
Fisherman
Gardener
Lumberjack
Miner

Disciples of War
Archer
Gladiator
Berserker
Templar

Disciples of Magic
Thaumaturge
Spellblade
Fusilier
Elementalist

and perhaps

Disciples of Art
Bard
Dancer
Mime
Tinkerer

Disciples of Shadow
Thief
Ninja
Parivir
Assassin

although the above may be filed under the disciplines above.

Also, if you didn't see it yet, there's more information out now:
http://www.eorzeapedia.com/2009/08/07/this-week-in-weekly-famitsu-interview-info-included/

Including the revelation of a 4th mountain city named Ishgard.

You know, he say some armor and weapons won't go well together, and that your "character growth" will depend on both your armor and weapon. It makes me think that perhaps some abilities require you to have a certain weapon or armor to learn? I'm not sure whether I should be happy or scared of this idea. It could be both if there's some ability you can't learn without having FFXIV's version of Relic Weapons...

I can be 95% positive there will be, but it'll be skills that are broken as it is. Like mythic weapons try to be.

I just meant those were the only four classes that would be available upon release (with subclasses such as the ones you listed in a later post). I suppose they may add more disciplines in later expansions as they added new jobs for ffxi, but on both the website they make it sound as if for now there will be only four:

FFXIV Website said:
In general there is a fourfold classification of adventurers based on the disciplinary paths to which they devote themselves...

Sounds like 8 classes have been released with possibly more on the way. I only know of the four from the "Leeroy" example on their website, never saw any other mention of them. However, I haven't read the site in it's entirety.

Anyway, thanks for the link. It'll give me something to read when there's a lul in activity at work.

PS @ Naue: One walk from Sandy to the dunes was more than enough for me, thank you. However, this does look like a game where it'll be worth taking in the scenery.

Yes, because god knows FFXI doesn't have any kind of Teleport.... Dem, Mea, Holla, Yhoator, Xarc, Altepa, Jugner_S, Passhow_S, Meri_S, outpost warps, staging points, or anything like that at all...

Sarcasm aside, I think you're reaching for reasons to be upset in this statement. FFXI has a vast array of teleportation options, all of which require you to get there on foot first. There's no real reason to assume that FFXIV won't be the same way.

I think almost every MMO has that in some form; WoW(for a common example) has it in the flight paths.

And thank god for that. It would suck if you had to run from Ironforge to Shattrath every time you had to do something in one of the two areas.

At the beginning, I like doing it on foot because exploring via flying or moving very fast immune to enemy attack is boring. This of course only applies for the first few months. Then I've seen it all and I want to get where I'm going asap.

Anyone in Germany?

Every day of the Gamecon 6 people at a time get to play FFXIV for 15 min each... Someone in Germany need to go there and get a ticket and tell the rest of us how awesome it is.

Sharpe should be there.

Ok, gameplay info from Gamecon.

  • UI is customizable. Drag-and-drop bars and chat windows to where you want them.
  • TP, HP and MP all exist. Seem to work a bit different as the characters seem to have 3000 TP as max, at least in the alpha.
  • Running forward and stopping doesn't make you stop dead in place, the character will do a "jerking" motion forward.
  • Abilities have hotbars at the bottom similar to WoW and Aion
  • Abilities gain levels to become better
  • Using abilities and spells gain "skill points" (TP maybe), which are then used for special abilities such as AoE attacks.
  • Currently there is no jump function. However, devs stated they were thinking of implementing it.
  • No water near, so no one knows if swimming is available yet.
  • You deal extra damage from attacking from behind, left, right, and bonus damage for attacking a monster's weak spot. Same goes with damage you take.
  • At least in this alpha build, all races have the same HP and MP.
  • Seems monsters hunt each other ala-FFXII
3 missions were playable during Gamecon, 1 killing puks, 1 killing dodos, and one chasing squirrels.

The Gladiator

Red Lotos: Most Damage
"All around hit" (Circle Blade?): AoE
Provoke: Distraction

Long distance shot: Largest range
Shield block: Damage reduction
Sword thrust: precise Attack
Sword slash: strong Attack

Know-How:

If a group member gets in trouble, "Provoke" helps.
Reduce damage to a minimum using "Provoke" and "Shield block".
Also, it seems Druid is one of the mage jobs in the game.

This guy seem to upload all screens he can find to his server, courtesy to BG:

One of those pictures involves an explanation of the "squirrel hunting" mission.

I have high expectations for more strategy in end-game.

Wierd, how are they going to work hotbars and such into a ps3 release? Well, come to think of it, I suppose they could work just like macros in FFXI.

Probably like FFXI, ya. Guessing they want to keep it as similar as possible to the macro system in FFXI for people to easily adjust to FFXIV.

What I'm wondering, though, is if you can swap equipment mid-battle like in FFXI to make the best out of each ability, or if there will be an "ultimate all-around set" to use all the time.

That looks pretty wicked.

Does anyone think how pretty that video looked? I'm getting more and more excited for this.

@Uzor I hope there will be gear swapping, I kind of liked the way there was always something else in your slot you can upgrade, gave you something to work towards.
