>.> i see a lot of Gear > Skill and Skill > Gear, but it's having both the best option?
<,< I.E a Ninja that has Scorp, but wont use his Ninja Tools and barely vokes. Or that same Ninja using only AF, has no top line eva or Acc gear, but uses foods, spams that Ninjitusui and vokes.
Wouldn't you want that Ninja to have all that kick ass gear and does all they can to keep hate? o .O just wondering

You know, I may get compliments on my ability in a pt, but I did go out and get those leaping boots for a reason...

...to shut Vang up.

A high skilled player will have good gear so its a moot point isn't it. You can not have good skill with out good gear but you can have good gear without good skill.

Yeah however, even if you do have great skill, but you have shitty gear. Sometimes it's not going to cut it. Such as being a PLD, you need up to date armor ASAP. Yeah, the PLD can hold hate like a god, but the PLD is still wearing lizard armor in crawlers nest..this makes your good hate holding skill obsolete.

i'm only 36 (and poor i might add), and i still have my cent. gear from when i turned 30, and my fed. tekko from 25. and yet, i do my job as a samurai excellantly according to most of the parties i've been in since i moved to CN for exp. in my eyes, gear isn't better than skill and skill isn't better than gear. if you do your job well and have failry good gear then your golden

I partied with a NIN the other day, a Taru NIN. He didnt have the gear even new Vangs, but he held hate just aswell. He only lost hate 2 times in the span of 3 hours. So to shut everyone up .....

Skill > Gear

Especialy post 60, I do not care how godly you are as a DRK, if you do not ahev atleast +20 Acc you are going to be a waste of a pt slot.

well the way I see it is if you dont have the best equipment you have to make up for it with skill. The better your equipment is the easier it gets. I can speak for ninja and say that I would only change tactics depending on the situation. I dont max out my evasion anymore. Shadows need to last long enough to get to the next, but if you do more damage you can help end the fight sooner/hold hate better and save shihei that way. I have out damaged, not all, but some other jobs and have even done more dmg with solo WS vs SATA. I wouldnt dare say better than all ppl of the same job because that would be retarded. All I'm saying is that a nin is flexible enough to be able to tank and deal damage at the same time and he doesnt have to do it the same way that other nins do. I'm elvaan so its probably more appropriate that I melee. Plus I use different food depending on what I want to do to the mob or what the mob will do to me. But I think people should not expect all ninjas to copy one play style. For ninja I think its not about skill vs equipment but how you use both to the greatest possible potential.

peace

Althought I wouldn't normall agree with that last post being that all my gear is the best you can possibly get for my level...I will say that Vang has almost come close to matching my gear but is the worst THF I've ever seen.

NIN/WAR & RNG/NIN ...

Lol Colbwa my gear does circles around yours and I have never partied with you.

Nice try sweetheart.

Oh and Gear > Skill past a certain level.

How can you say that a Deft Ring is better than Deft Ring +1? You've got to be dumber than Sneakypants.

Gear>Skill. Most jobs are just a routine. Autoattack till the weapon skill, soften the mob up till the magic burst, keep people healed and buffed - refresh cycles, etc. What skill? You do the same thing over and over. It might take some mental competence to figure it all out initially, but levelling quickly becomes a routine. Most of pt effectiveness is out of a player's direct control. Manual dexterity doesn't determine whether a damage dealer hits the mob. In game calculations do. Those are what matter, and the only control a player has over the outcome of those calculations is gear and stats. You might be the best player at selecting autoattack and eating a sandwich that ever graced the plains of Vanadiel, but it's your gear that determines whether you cut the mob to pieces, or simply create a lot of wind.

man i was gunna stay out of it, but they dont lie. you really are an idiot. way to fail at everything in life

A DD melee can have all the skill in the world, but at 60+ if the only +acc gear they have is a Life Belt they are pretty useless. It is sad but I have seen it  . And beside knowledge of Skillchains there isnt too much skill with being a DD anyway. Mnks go nuts, Sams have to know when to use meditate and Drg has to know when to use Jumps. The exceptions are War needing to mabye manage hate if needed (not really sure on that, havent been in a party with a war in a long time), and Drks have Absorbs to play with along with managing Souleater.

There isnt much complication in being a DD, as long as you know how SATA works pretty much anyone can do it. I would say gear is more important for melee without a doubt (my 4 year old nephew can hit the attack button  ). other jobs are debatable.

Tank skill = gear. You need to be able to hold hate and defend it too. If tanks are lacking in either of these the party is in trouble.

Mage skill > gear. This is debatable, but a mage with all the best equipment hurts the party if he gets too much hate.

just my thoughts..........

What exactly is the point of having good gear if you have no skill? Of course good gear is wondrous to have, it helps alot. But if you can't even play your job right in the first place, your gear isn't going to help.

All too often skill>gear is simply a crutch for those who don't farm. It's a defense mechanism against realizing they're the pt gimp and not the other guy.

I strongly belive Skill > Gear, come check me, and tell me I have shit gear. Ive PTed with BLMs with BETTER gear, who dont know what the hell to do ... That day it proved to me that Skill > Gear.

How about knowing other jobs. Setting up skillchains. Determining the best way to fight....you fuckers are so used to joining parties that the people like me who always lead are forced to hold your hands and walk you through everything.

Sure for fucks like YOU ... all you have to do is join and someone will hold your hand through it all...therefore all you have to do is know your own job. But for guys like me...skill is required to lead the masses of morons that we have to invite to OUR parties.
