its official, rng was nerfed.

Why have different jobs in a game, if you want everyone to do the same amount of damage?

Because different jobs do the same amount of damage in different ways to suit the various playstyles and aesthetic?

So it'd just be like playing a board game, he has red I have blue, we both do the samething, one just looks different than the other. Sounds fun...

Perhaps now RNGs can think of a different sub to use? Does Berserk boost ranged attack too? If it does, maybe RNG/WAR would be an option, and then you can use arrows more sparingly and still deal the same damage?

i tried rng/war today in my 57 static. we have another rng/nin, nin/war, rdm/blm, whm/blm and we pick up anyone.

i was not impressed at all with the damage from me nor the other rng. it boils down to rngs now use 3-4x the amount of ammo for 1/2 the xp they normally get. accuracy throught the range was terrible. i missed WS close up to the mob. my EES did 3 damage one time on a crab with defense up.
rngs already spend a lot of ammo, now they spend more on ammo to be average like all other melees. how screwed up is that? we might as well all go play drg now.

now there's really no more reason to play rng. want to deal damage? all melees deal almost the same amount of damage. want to waste gil, play rng.

I like this statment :D

Agreed.

While I do feel that Rangers have a reason to complain, who knows if this is the end-all be-all Ranger? I too would be p'd off if they did a big change like this to Monk, but I would like to believe I would try to adjust.

I disagree that it is unfair that Rangers did a lot more damage than other DDs, but I also think it is more logical that distance would play a part in that damage. After all it is Ranger and Ranged Attack is the main attack of your job.

I also agree that this change should've been done years ago. If you're a cookie cutter type of player you just got nerfed. If you like to play around with jobs, we'll you just got another shot at that, unwillingy mayhaps.

I'm still going to try to level my LV35 Ranger best I can. If it is too hard, well maybe not. Atleast I got to NIN37 before the update. ^^

Let's not jump to conclusions

Best comment said on the entire subject, seems like RNG's are sore cause now they aren't doing the ungodly damage they did before with little to no effort involved. I guess I can understand some frustration from RNG's as this probably should have been addressed long ago, but it seems to me SE has now leveled the playing field where the richest RNG isn't the best RNG anymore, no it would appear the most *skilled* RNG will become the best RNG. I like RNG and this update to it where it actually might require skill and cunning to play it properly has me excited. It was a duldrum for me to just Spam /ra <t>, or Barrage and then WS. The soloing side of it sucks but hey, it's probably no worse than a BRD or a WHM trying to solo. I wish they had made Shadowbind a one minute ability.

RNG's will now have to be intimately familar with the applicability of there weapon, so we might see less guns for high level RNG's and more of a variety of Bows, which to me sounds like a good thing. Experiment with this update before you say your job is gimp, who knows, you may enjoy a more strategic role for RNG. Remember, all that damage you had before is still there, you just have to figure out how to access it. Roll with the punches, you guys will be fine

also... dont bring up peacock charms... because everyone complained about those too.... now they get access to a rare/ex version through camping a NM

This I don't get. Everyone already had access to PCC through camping a NM. What I'm saying is, just because they made this drop rare/ex, it doesn't mean it will become easier to get or less camped. All it means is that the non-rare/ex version's price will change (will likely go up, if past history is any indicator). It's not as if SE is going to make the freaking thing drop off mandies in Sarutabaruta.

this is from another post of mine:

the complaint mail goes to the same place i'm sure, only the GM complaints end up getting recycled as the CEOs toilet paper. And yes I have a 75 RNG. I gave up on most leveling activities, was only looking forward to a couple special events.

The big problem i see with this is update concerning RNG is this. You go out and buy a classic car, and proceed to dump thousands of dollars into the car to make it look/perform better. then one day, after all the toyota echo drivers complain to the Gov, you walk out to see your car stripped down to the metal with a little 3 cyliinder engine where your big block used to be.

whether you are lvl 20 or 75 all the gil you wasted on RNG is just that, wasted. I played RNG after 64 levels of DRK because i wanted to do even more damage. Now i just wasted months of leveling and a whole shitload of gil on ammo to be turned into a THF with no SATA, a BLM with no MP, a gangster rapper who (50) snitches to the feds. that shit aint right like two left shoes.

like i've explained in other posts, everyone would be upset if their job was severely altered. Ya any moron can adjust, last night i played 74 BRD for the first time, and I pulled like 12k xp in 2 hours, so i know adjusting to a job I already know is going to be cake (without any gimped as RNGs lol)

this game is easy, people just make it harder on themselves than they need to.

The difference is that now the people caming Argus are going to be the people that actually want the PCC for themselves, rather than the people that want to sell the charm and split the profits with the 5 buddies they brought down with them. And/Or sell the gil.

You have to bear in mind that the game is larger than just our server. It's entirely possible that some of the changes being made are due to situations on other servers, where gilsellers might well be controlling the mobs in question.

I understand that, but I think it changes little in practical terms. Say I decide to go camp Argus. Instead of competing against, say, GillSellerA, GillSellerB, and GillsellerC, or NMHunterForProfitA, NMHunterForProfitB, and NMHunterForProfitC, I will be competing against GuyWhoNeedsItemA, GuyWhoNeedsItemB, and GuyWhoNeedsItemC. Do you understand what I'm saying? This piece of equipment will still have the same bonuses, the same relatively low level to wear, and there really aren't other comparable pieces of eq; unless SE introduces other pieces of eq that have comparable stats and that present the same or less of a challenge to obtain, nothing much changes in terms of the number of people you're competing against for the drop. It might make some people feel better knowing that they were beat to the item by someone who wants to wear it instead of selling it, I dunno. It's all the same to me. I hope what I'm saying makes sense, even if you don't agree.

A couple of other things:
- People will still bring friends to help them out, to improve their odds, because they are too low to take the mob on their own, or just out of boredom.
- It's not inconceivable that people will still charge for this--IE, you pay for someone to invite you to their party, do all the work, and let you lot the charm if it drops. Granted the fact that it's not a 100% drop makes this sort of deal more difficult, but people are inventive.

Anyway, sorry to clutter the RNG nerf thread with more PCC stuff

Oh, I agree completely Anesly. But a lot of the NMHunterForProfit folks think that they've been bent over by SE. To which I can only laugh my arse off, to be honest.

how many archers stand right in their opponents faces to shoot arrows at them?

This makes perfect sense to me. Then again, i prefer things to make sense.... thats why i am so angry when i walk into a store, and the NPC's are there, only to tell me "Today is our holiday" WELL WHY ARE YOU HERE IN THE STORE!!!

That is one of my biggest pet peeves.

RNG STOP BITCHING!!! In every other incarnation of a ranger, there is a penalty for shooting up close, because well, you cannot simply draw a bow point blank and expect it to be very powerful. I expect if more testing is done, this won't be *that* big of a deal, and you're overreacting to a lot. I play RNG as my secondary job, it's only 37 at the moment, but from the way I play RNG, which is farther back and not on the mob's ass, it won't affect me much.

Also, why bitch about solo'ing so much? PLD can BARELY kill things that are even 20 levels lower than them. I'm sure WHM and BRD have similar problems. RNG also mainly solo what for EXP? WORMS! mobs who don't move, and you CAN stay far away to simply absorb castings with Utsusemi. I've never seen a RNG try to solo a melee style mob, because they just rip through them. And who cares about farming when you're a RNG? You can camp NMs, do BCNMs, or do an assortment of other things to make your money. Oh no, this update makes crafting look like a good idea, what ever will we do?

also...if people stop being rng... then i may get more party invites! /hurray

Makes sense with Bows, but what about Guns? I'd expect them to be better from close than far (Old style guns were horrible from range, because the bullets were not uniformed in shape)
