Looking to beef up the power of my BLU

Whats a good parser, gonna pt in a few minutes. Ive got this old FFXI parser (thats what its called) and it doesnt even seem to work half the time

DVS parse.

BLU is good with sword, maximizing your sword damage (which is a large portion of your time) will increase your overall performance. No comparisons to ranger or thief or any jobs, just do what you're good at, a sword.

Put the gear swaps by the spell macros. Put them in the spell macros if it really takes you that long to use macros you need to rethink the way you use them.

In a previous post I mentioned having to use multiple macro's, and it takes at least 2 seconds.

That seems pretty much normal. Im not going to finger dance just to have a little extra sweetening. Im playing a game for fun, so Im going to relax.

The damage output I have is above average, and with that Im fine. When I get more gil, Ill get more stuff, but until then Ill play as I am

How do you know your dmg output is above avg.? Your gear looks to be avg at best. Good luck with your pt I hope you can finish your merits of so you can start farming to get some of the new gear you want.

Well if you're nub enough to put them in separate macro pages or put your gear in ctrl and your WS/spell in alt or something, then yes, you'll get the time lag for that because of how long it takes for macros to show up or to change macro pages (which is yet another point in favor of Windower macros I might add - they're popular *because* the built-in macro system sucks so horribly in comparison). But that's a consequence of poor macro layout on your part, nothing more, and it's easily avoided/corrected by rearranging macros, and is consequently a complete non-issue.

Mish's point on RNG was "normal attacks" vs. "WS". Not "melee attacks", "normal attacks". That is to say, in RNG's case, ranged attacks. Or as a simpler concept:

"Your general reliable reasonably frequent dinks into the mob's HP"

vs.

"Your big impressive spike of damage that you can only do every so often"

In the case of frontline melees, this is melee attacks vs. WS. In the case of RNG, this is ranged attacks vs. WS/Barrage. In the case of THF, this is melee attacks vs. WS/SA/TA. In the case of BLU, this is melee attacks vs. WS/spells. Is this really such a difficult concept?

Parse of 54 battles, which should be much more conclusive than the 2 I did earlier.

Accuracy is sitting there at ~88%, without acc gear.

Link is RNG
Aither is DRK
Jimi is SAM
Eithen is PLD
Wulf is RDM
I am BLU

Draw your own conclusions, Im finished lol.

EDIT: Nvm, I can't read the fact that it didn't add up, and the spell column was just plain missing. All the same, uh ... you did 3650 damage in WS's over the course of *54* battles? Use that in conjunction with the numbers for average WS damage, and it's kinda telling about how fast you gain TP...

EDIT 2: Average 400 damage WS means about 9 WS total. 9 WS in 54 battles means it takes 6 mobs for you to get TP ...

just add the melee, add the skill, and subtract that from the total

And yes, I understand the math - it translates to about 65% of your damage from spells and about 35% of your damage from non-spells. Spells are definitely worth prioritizing, but the fact that even not geared for it, your melee/WS damage was doing 35% ... well that's hardly worth thumbing your nose at.

Think of how much extra damage you could eke out if you actually worked to beef up those melee stats. (Yeah, your spell *percentage* would be smaller because these things have to add up to 100% and all, but your damage *total* would be bigger.)

This is true, but where I am sitting with myself atm Im satisfied with. Everything else would just be extra to maximize myself, which I will worry about when I have the ability to.

Im just saying having a STR build can be quite successful for a BLU, given the alternatives

Edit: I also have failed to mention that I have no merits whatsoever for BLU yet, other than Diffusion. No sword merits, no physical potency. None of that sort.

You really should beef up your melee stats, you should have enough TP for a WS a mob, if not more.

Out of curiosity, what's your sub?

You were saying?

Honestly, good macro usage will cost you absolutely nothing, gil-wise and will quite possibly help your original topic-stated goal more than any one piece of gear ever could. Getting the gear to use in those macros, if you don't have it already, yeah, that'll cost money, but that doesn't mean it's not worth getting. :P

SJ is NIN, damage output wold probably be much greater if I had sea spells or thf sj on.

Yeah, but I only had a limited amount of gil, which is mostl spent now. I was also looking for equipment combo's that would increase my BLU spells, mainly, which is why I listed a lot of STR gear. Im just building onto BLU's strong point atm

Rngs still use a weapon to attack, and that's what Mish was talking about vs spells. if you have any weapon skill in the As or possibly B+, you'll want to increase Acc, tping gear until you have enough tp to switch out for WS.

Delay and casting, whether you have fast cast or not, is still the same no matter how much macros you change around, I've done this changing macros around all the time on Blm, and I still nuke at the same time on every spell.

If you're slow at scrolling to the certain macro manually rather than pressing ctrl+number, then you should probably just hold ctrl down. I do the manual scrolling over to the macros since I use a controller to play, and it still doesn't take quite long to switch them around.

As for inventory issues, max out mog locker, storage, mog safe, or maybe make a mule or two if your RL income can afford the extra $1 or $2 a month. It's really not that difficult to have 3 different gear sets in your inventory if you don't have unneeded items or gear in your inventory already.

If you sell your Jet seraweels and got vendor slops, not only would you have an extra 200k, but you get a little extra acc, and then you can get Errants which is also cheap, to rest in.

Bang for the buck. If your strong point is already strong and it's expensive to raise it further, but your weak point can be improved significantly with similar or less expense, you may end up better off overall by getting the weak point up to par rather than getting the strong point a bit more pimped out.

Also, do you eat meat or sushi? (Sorry if you already answered this and I overlooked it.)

He eats sushi.

You really should take the advice of quite literally everone in this thread telling you that your melee sucks, and it shouldn't.

Er wait, that 88% was with *sushi*?

That's, uh ... yeah ... if you're not hitting the 95% soft cap with sushi, there's something wrong.

Sword merits + acc gear + meat = win. Added perk is that meat typically costs less than sushi.

And for the record, ACC gear helps multi-hit physical spells a lot, so Snipers and other assorted ACC gear increases both your spell damage AND your melee damage.

After ten pages, all I've really seen is that you've asked the opinion of the people here, and then completely ignored the responses of those who chose to post.

...I don't get it.

Umm, not once did I ignore them. gg?
