Lyndis: the after-action report

Magic from what I know does NOT give Mobs TP.

Easy way to find out:

Grab a BST friend or sub BST, Nuke a mob, charm it, and do a <pettp>. You will see it resting comfortably at zero; unless it hit you.

I could be wrong, but I am 99.99% sure I am not.

The reason you gave for that makes me wanna cry

it did give TP when I, and several others did atleast =/
Just cast Stone on a raptor in Sauromugue and charm it, do <pettp>. They won't hit you for a long time at 75.

They might have changed how the TP system works though. I tried it a long time ago, but it should be the same.

RDM/BST <3 so overlooked despite the massive CHR bonuses RDM get + Ogre Mitts ;-; nooooooooooo

hehe.. actually.. level BST to 75 then RDM to 75 and sub BST and your charm will be equivalent to that of a 75 BST's charm... it's really messed up O.O

it is? 0.0
you sure? O.o

that's what my BSTy friend told me and she had RDM at 75 before she left and I saw her charm things that lvl 75 BST charmed. It was impressive

Gotta add to this a bit.

Okay, it's true that Drks can and do take hate from tanks a lot at the lower levels but nin is not a good sub for Drk ever, in a party situation. /nin for Drk is only ever used in Ballista, or I use it when im out skilling up sword and axe. Why? If you're in a party, you sure arent using one handed weapons. Dual wield is usless. All your getting a benefit from the job is utsusemi, and that isn't enough to justify using it. If you get hate.. take it like a pro. /war gives you a needed attack and defense additions to help out with that. Those traits plus beserk are farm more useful to the party than your "look i dont take damage for a few hits" utsusemi.

With /nin you are:

Hitting weaker (less strength)
Have less defense (for when you get hate)
Have less HP (for when you get hate)
Have no attack raising abilities at all.
Have several job traits that are useless.
Have several Ninjitsu spells which are pointless since you're only using one.

/nin has it uses for Drk, but none of those are in exp parties.

As for the whole rdm/drk. Same thing as using /nin on Drk.. it has it's uses, but none of them are for exp parties. Please.. quit wasting your party member's time and play your damn job to it's fullest. Why people even invite you with that sub is beyond me, must be pretty hard up for Rdm nowadays.

I remember one time I was farming with ninja sub on my drk and got invited to an exp party in boyadah. I completely forgot and ended up just keeping the sub since the pally had to leave in an hour and running back to jeuno would have taken to long.

drk/nin on processionares in the tree was an interesting experience. I was NOT doing the same damage, but I was pulling and it did help somewhat since we only had one healer (the blm was /smn for some reason if i remember right. This was not a very good party to say the least...)

/NIN is great for farming and solo play as a drk and of course ballista. I was soloing my hakutaku cluster mobs with just utsusemi ichi. But believe me you lose so much damage in an exp party its definately NOT worth subbing ever in one!

I've personally never played with a good rdm/drk. Its laughable to see one casting an absorb spell... Thats like a drk/whm. Sure theres 'benefits' and I have a decent enough mp to get some use out of it... but my job is damage and that sub isnt going to complement it well. Rdm/drk or/nin can work, but the sub does not complement the main job well.

/shrug no one cares as long as your the ever-ready mana battery anyways.

I don't know if any of you guys remember Leaf, but she was a rdm/drk and not only did she pull her job off well during party *debuff etc etc* she never ran out of MP and did a fairly decent amount of damage. I see nothing wrong with the combo if it's equiped correctly and the person who's playing knows that they are doing.

P.S. Leaf had about 3mil i gear, and that was over 5 months ago, probably being close to 6 or 7 now. Just a thought if you want to make the job combo work =P

What Uzor said is correct, but Applepie on ffxionline.com was one of the first to explain this best. In his experiments he showed that once the mob had below 20% health it immidiately uses ws when it has enough, however before it goes below 20% health it uses it at a random time once it has enough tp. So while giving the mob extra tp early on doesn't immidiately cause more ws, on average they will get used earlier because the mob is reaching 100% earlier and starts randomly using its ws. Dmg spells do give tp. Easy way to test this is go to valkurm and grab a lizard or something weak that will never hit you and gain tp. Cast stone on it over and over. Eventually it will use a ws from the tp gained from your nuke. This is easiest to see if you can get your 10th spell to put it below 20% hp.

Very true. I suspect this is a bug SE hasn't fixed, but w/e. In the meantime you can enjoy the full power of bst while its subbed.

I do. I think it's worse if they can't enfeeble, but do an excelent job on keeping refresh up, then it is if they can enfeeble good, but do a horrible job keeping refresh up.

Because it saves me SO much MP if they cast slow and paralyze on the mob.

While I didn't read Applepies post about TP gain, I still admire him for his other posts. I have read a lot of his posts and learned a lot from him. Sadly, I must have missed that one ; ;

He's also the one that inspired me to take on Maat with melee, and to solo mission 5-1 :P

RDM/NIN is good, but in very few cases (primarily if they're the tank at 74+, and even then...)

Darnit all! Silly me for hitting submit without actually typing anything.

Anyway...

Rdm/Nin will never be a good tank in and xp situation. They are GREAT soloers, but as a tank, even at lvl74 with Ni, they are missing a key tanking component that only /war can provide.

A mage meleeing is never useful for an exp party, although I admit of all the mages, RDM is the only one that can do any damage. Just have to admit to yourself you're skilluping, and ask how you'd like it if the melees used their skillup weapons and killed the exp. It's just justification to sacrifice the party for personal gains and the same type of players who do it there tend to do it elsewhere.

That is very true. Weather or not they can melee in exp parties is beyond the point. Just because we can wield a sword doesn't mean we should.

I am going to back up what has already been said again just in case she still doesn't get it.

you a freakin MAGE not a Melee job if you want to be a DRK be a fucking drk an dnot a gimp quasi DRK melle jobs never make good subs for mages in EXP parties ( oops well rdm/nin is the only exception i have seen work with a skilled player and good gear) if you want to skill up great or solo/farm melee till your heart is conent but for christ sake when your in an exp party you owe it to the other 5 members to be at your best.

I love this line she says she didnt know RDM was mainly to enfeeble What the fuck?? later on in levels RDM is the only job that consistantly can stick enfeebles thats where RDM shines It amazes me you got this far Oh wait if it were not the fact that rdm is a high demand job your ass would sit in jeuno all day shouting

I am so sick of the same argument " I wanna go against the cookie cutter job set ups" sorry hun but lik eit or not the gam emechanics dicate what works best most of the time your not in a single player game anymore if you can't work with others go back to single player consoles do me a favor do a search for high level RDm's notice ones in exp parties notice thier subs hmm maybe they have learned something .

I normally try not to take sides but yet again we have a case where one person flames an dbacks his shit up with examples and real words than you come on spout a bunch of jibberish call names but back nothing up

ok Cubswoo I have to say in general you know a fairly good chunk about this game, so in most cases I tend to agree with your opinion as its pretty much based on fact.

I also agree that Rdm/Drk is a strange set up, and I personally dont really see what Dark gives to the Rdm job.

I also feel that if you can afford it you should try and equip you character with the best possible gear (unless extreme prices) and if you can't then go farming.

However I partied with Lyndis as his rdm from around lvl 30 through to 52.

Through all those levels I never had a problem with Lyndis ( mainly used /nin but sometimes /drk). Lyndis also knew when to cast spells, always had refresh running on himself and our 2 blms and in general performed well as a rdm.

I for one an happy to join a party with Lyndis as I know he has the right attitude towards the game.

Who knows maybe one day he will experiment with a /blm or /whm (wink) but until that day happens its not going to stop me lvling with him.

I have more issues with people, such as a lvl 28 blm in my party the other, who was xping with fishing gear, a Bastok ring, and a + dex ring on.

You may all proceed to flame the shit out of me if you wish .... :)
