Lyndis: the after-action report

Ya so flame everybody else and stop with the Redmage trash all the time =P. joking~

All you gotta do is say REDMAGE! and the friggin thread blows up to a gigantic ball of fire. ~~~~ :x

Duh! Forgot about war and thf. Ok, Revision. rdm and war and thf have the most acceptable subjob variations, so quit your bitching about not being able to "color outside the lines."

Actually, we have nine subjobs which under varying circumstances can be the best...

/WHM /BLM /SMN /NIN /THF /DRK /RNG /BRD /WAR

However, for exp parties, it's basically /WHM or /BLM (and rarely /SMN) that are useful...

you do not know the person behind the controller, and you never know, they may surprise you.

You're gonna have to explain this, because you're REALLY reaching here to make me, or anyone else, feel sympathy right now. When observed playing (which is what Lyndis wanted in the first place,) her reactions have moved from:

Denial ("I haven't partied in over 2 weeks")
Outright lies ("I'm level 54" [you were 52 when that party started, from what I remember. And if you WERE a 54 and you STILL couldn't stick the debuffs on Spiders, you're only proving my point further that you're a horrible Red Mage.])
Return accusations ("Well, your MNK wasn't impressive either" (Again, oh really? When I parsed the most damage, completed every skillchain I was asked to, and still managed to backup tank effectively?)
Attempting to shift the blame ("I had to save everyone's life because I'm so altruistic and wonderful")

And now, instead of attempting to debate the facts and the situation, she runs away. Letting her friends fight the battle for her, now going as far as to play the sympathy card.

Everyone thinks they're a good player. But the decision does not rest in yourself to say if you're good or not. That decision comes from your peers. And as one of your peers, Lyndis, I can safely say this:

Your subjob, and your playstyle, have proven to me that I have forgotten more about playing Red Mage than you have ever known. You have reached the level you are, not because of your skill or your ability, but because of the coattails of your job. Admittedly, you will still likely level faster than me, for three reasons:

1) You are a high-demand job, and I am 'just a DD.'
2) Parties are obviously willing to accept your subjob, because a 50% RDM is still a good little Refresh whore.
3) You will continue to level with your gimped, horrible-for-a-mage gear and your sword, while I save up another 10 or 15 million gil to make myself the best Monk I can be.

Remember that this is a TEAM game. Your 'fun' is restricting 5 other people and their 'fun.' Unless you static with that WHM and DRK. Then you'd have a wonderful little trio of awful that you could get to 75 2k at a time.

If you wish to continue discussing this, Lyndis, don't send your friends to do your dirty work. Face me, prove that I was wrong, and I'll raise your arm in victory.

But you can't, you won't, and because of this, you are another victim of Cubs pulling back the veil of your 'originality' to prove just what you really are.

A GIMP.

Don't misread this thread, we're not bashing red mages. We're bashing one specific red mage that refuses to use the correct tools available for the situation. If, say, Lyndis was a WHM/DRK or BLM/DRK, we'd be bashing white or black mages, wouldn't we? And this isn't about "you can't do your job," this is about "you can't do your job well"

And as for the "acceptable subjobs" i think we really only mean standard pickup experience parties. If we extend to 'any situation', every job has at least 5 combos that could be useful.

Maybe I should stop posting in this thread (or the flameboards in general), my mouth is gonna get me in trouble.

lyndis didnt send me anywhere. he is not here bc he has other things to do, and i am sure he will reply to you the next time hereturns to the site.

i didnt ask for your sympathies, i am merely stating my views about this subject just like everyone else

Lyndis is level 54.

i was not in the pt to witness the rest, and so i have no comment on your other accusations, but stated above is fact as to the ones i can negate[/b]

I was trying to make a point with the /whm /blm and /smn. I may have not been entirely correct, but ya'll missed the point entirely. I am not trying to bash rdm, as one of my best friends irl is a rdm and in my static. I am merely saying that rdm is one of the jobs who's role can vary greatly based on subjob. Therefore, they don't HAVE to "color outside the lines" and be good rdm, while putting their own twist on the job with their particular sub, be it /whm, /blm or /smn. Sure, /drk is good for stun, but not for exp party.

actually, mob TP attacks are not based on the ammount of TP they have. Even if it was, it would be at 300% every time they use it since it's based on their HP and time etc.

It is, however, hard to prove. Just like a lot of other things in this game.

Ya it's really not polite to be a half assed player at any job. FFXI is all about interdependence, if one person sucks, the entire system fails. So you having 5 could ruin the day for 5 others or 17 others, something very importent to keep in mind.

You're not limited to having to be one SJ as a redmage, there are many several SJs you could have that would enhance you're main roles in a experience points party. Basiclly there are several ways to approach playing redmage while still being a quality player.

Whitemage, blackmage, summoner, and bard are basiclly universally good subs for xp. If you really really wish to be a non-cookie cutter rdm yet wish to not be called gimp, playing rdm/smn or rdm/brd is quite unusual, but with no lack of potienal. I'm personally not fond /smn, but let me indulge you on a rare alternative if I may, /brd.

By subbing brd you'll have nearly have equal mnd and int so that's not an issue. A noticable con is the loss of about 80-100mp at lvl 60ish, not a big deal to a rdm. On the pro you gain ballad I by 50/25 so you can give all the backline 4mp a tick instead of 3, that really adds up. As for the melee, you can give them magridal for acc up, about 10 more acc subbed, a REAL big help. This is extermely overlooked in rdm/brd, the ability to make your melees a bit more accurate, thus making more skillchains, more damage over time, and more MBs. By 62/31, you can give rangers hunter's prelude, it won't go unnoticed. So in a nutshell if you want to be different yet still have potienal to do the job of a redmage properly, really consider /brd.

So there you have it, I stated I quite honestly I find 2k/hr parties gimp and it was propably your fault(the rdm) honestly, but I did offer some positive alternatives, take em or leave them.

So you expect a Rdm to sing Madrigal, Prelude, and Ballad... 24 seconds right there. Then debuff, refresh, and heal/nuke whichever role they are in? There is a point when you can be too useful, as in you have too much to do.

This argument would be valid if of course rdm/brd never worked. But in some cases in an xp party it does work, and it works well.

Rdm has the highest number of acceptable subjobs(/blm /whm /smn). No other job has that much subjob variation, so quit bitching. Mad

WAR has /THF /NIN /MNK.

Drk has /Thf /War /Nin /Sam

The latter two can still work, just not as well

/derail: I think DRK/SAM is really underrated because I have seen that do MASSIVE amounts of damage (Level 62DRK doing 5000 points of Damage to WHM AF3 NM... in about 1 minutes time...O.o) Problem is Tanks aren't good enough to keep hate off that and DOWN THE DRK GOES!

and it seems this discussion is turning into a "Should RDM melee?" Argument again... I swear this question is as frequent as "SUB OR DUB!?" In the anime world.

Rediculous, that RDM should be hung by his toe nails and dick-slapped to death.

If your going to melee as a RDM.. DON'T. If your not going to have INT or MND bonus' DON'T. If your going to be a shitty Red mage. DON'T

I'm leveling DRK to sub, want to know why?:

The only time RDM should have DRK subbed is at lv. 74+ for STUN on God's/HNM's. OR soloing for shits and giggles(refer to http://www.qcdn.org/viewtopic.php?t=6449&highlight= .THAT IS ALL!

I'll let you in on a little secret. I hate XPing. Everything I want to do in this game (high rank missions, Zilart, Sea, HNMs, Gods, the whole enchilada.) But to get there, I need to party, build XP, skill up, do all that first. It's a means to an end. And I want it over as fast as possible. That makes my standard for XP/hour much higher than the average player.

Well just a friendly warning but don't look at endgame through rose colored glasses. It seems much more fun and rewarding than it is. Don't get me wrong having rank10 and access to all the zones and fighting the big guys is great but it is also a lot, and i mean a LOT of standing around waiting for things to happen. You should enjoy leveling because it is by far the largest portion of the game, and really what the game is all about :D

and DOWN THE DRK GOES

Lol... Story of my life...

LOL Cubs, get a life dude.
I've always respected you for your views/knowledge, and I actually told Lyn that you knew what you were talking about.
But now.....
Theres no need to be such an asshole.

The issue is over with me, unless Lyn wants to come on down and debate further. If you look over my posts, you'll see I take a much nicer tone at teh beginning - but I can only slam my head into a brick wall so many times before I just grab the bulldozer.
