morrigan's robe on quetz.

I mean a tier 4 nuke with Elemental Seal being resisted totally, I dont mean damage reduced. It was "Magic pot resists the spell." It was a rare occasion, and unlucky for the BLM, but it wasnt a damage modifier from the pot, but instead the spell being made useless because of the INT getting a lucky roll from the pot
That is because pots have a move called "Magic Shield" that makes all magic resist.

However, gaze moves, such as Chaotic eye and Blank Gaze can still hit them. I believe Breath Attacks work in a similar way.

Spectral barrier gives magic shield.

Magic Pots also have a special that allows them to completely resist magic.

past three posts, I editedededed my post to show what I meant, and confused

Magic Barrier acts just as Shell does, which only adds to the natural magic defense. Refer to the edit to see what I meant, and why I confused it

Edit: I talked with some BLM's in my LS, and basically it can happen both ways, from the pots natural magic defense, and its higher INT. I was under the assumption that magic defense would lower the spells damage (instead of being resisted, it would be 0) and the mobs higher INT would resist the spell

Magic Barrier, not the natural magic defense or higher INT.

Which isn't relevant as to the original question as to whether mob level is a modifier to enfeebling magic. I think everyone knows that INT is a factor in resists (although reading this thread, I wouldn't be surprised).

But it is relevant, because normally, higher level monsters will have higher INT, and they have higher INT because their level is higher. Thats why I brought it up

Something with a resist paralyze trait, or resistance to Ice. Or you can use something with a resistance to wind / gravity, or earth / slow, or dark / blind / sleep.

Dynamis Xarca PLD and WHM mobs have a decent resistance to sleep. With ~300 Enfeebling you're probably around 50%.

High level Worms will probably resist slow enough. The highest crabs may resist Paralyse, although maybe not enough. Most mobs will have some resistance to an element or an effect.

Hmm i know dynamis mob have high resitance but kinda hard to test in dynamis. I know how to test sleep (troll's automaton or flan), gravity (VT trolls) but those don't seem affected by stat for my rdm. I guess i could try a troll pup for resist slow. Pb is once the mob is slowed, it's not like sleep, u need either to wait that effect wears of ... sounds gay. Not to mention the pet.

But you used pots, a class of mob that has a resist move, as your example. That is what makes it irrelevant. It isn't their INT that makes them hard to cast against, it's the whole class of mob.

Dia II, 6 casts, without Light Staff:

Dia II, 6 casts, with Dark Staff:

So, Light Staff isn't enough to bump my 97 Enfeebling Skill 6 damage Dia II's to 7, due to the game rounding everything down. 6.6 becomes 6, rather than 7. HOWEVER, Dark Staff is enough to bump my 6 damage Dia II's to 5. Proving that Light Staff does have an effect, since Dark just puts an opposite one in play. Dia III, if it does over 10 damage(I've personally never seen it used,) would have an actual damage increase from Light Staff.

I need to find a youtube video of Dr. Cox saying wrong the the tune of old clock chimes, because pchan is totally wrong.

Found one.

I used pots as an example, any mob family can resist any spell. Im using other BLMs' experience, who on the other hand do have first hand experience.

I cant really argue this point, because what I did say, (mobs level in a way does affect magic resistance,) is on the subject which I was told was irrelevant

If a pot was level 1 with the magic barrier on it would resist every spell, that is why your example is irrevelant.

Your example was an ES T4 spell being resisted by a mob that has an ability to resist any spell. It has nothing to do with level or how high its INT was. It could have been the dumbest pot in the game, but its ability was going to resist the spell.

Also, if you're going to do some tests...

Code:
      A B C D E F G
 81. 45 40 36 31 27 22 18
Colibri are Rank A INT. They are also BLU, which gives them D rank INT from their job bonus. This means a lvl 81 Colibri will have an INT of:
lvl. 81 = A + D = 45+31 = 76

They also have a Rank F VIT, and BLU have Rank D vit, which gives them 53 VIT.

They also have a Rank A AGI, giving them A + D = 76 AGI.

However, this is assuming they don't have a SJ, and it is generally assumed that they are BLU with BLU sub, which brings their stats to:

AGI: 91
INT: 91
VIT: 68

So a BLU with 91 INT will have the same INT as a Colibri, so just go out and test it.

Although I doubt you will want to try WAR/BLM on Greater Colibri, os here's the stats for lesser colibri:

Code:
Lv. INT AGI VIT
63 72 72 53
64 73 73 54
65 74 74 55
So feel free to test it out. I'm going to bed.

Edit: first code looked weird. Also gave the wrong stats for Lesser Colibri <.< ment to give the 63-65, not 53-55...

I thought every mob was /war? How was the blu/blu figured out?

Every mob isn't WAR/WAR. WHM goblins are an example :p

Every mob have its own "base stats" according to its race. Additionally, they have a main job and SJ that also adjusts its stats. Colibris have MP, and don't double attack. Hence they can't be WAR's.

If you want to see how it was figured out, read this thread:

I swear Ive been double attacked by a hobgoblin physician in bibiki before!

i didn't mean that every mob was war/war, just that i thought it was understood that every mob was at least subbed war.

The blu main job would be enough to give the colibri mp, so thats not necessarily a reason.

The BG link is broken for me and i haven't had the oppertunity to read the other links yet.

Are there any other mobs in all of FFXI that have MP but dont cast spells?

Crabs! I dont remember, but they dont cast any spells, do they also double attack?

Crabs don't double attack (they're PLD). Also, the wide majority of mobs are war/war.

Buffalo have MP to aspir, and are obviously defensive, I assume they're like crabs (PLD)?

I'm pretty sure the initial damage of dia is affected by potency of the light staff, and negative potency of the dark staff. That does NOT prove that its affecting the enfeebling skill, just the potency of the "attack". I could be wrong, but I have a suspicion that all that's being affected is the potency of dia by the staff, nothing to do with the enfeebling portion of it.

Correlation does not imply causation after all. The only way to can prove it is with a non damaging enfeeble (and huge sample size on just the right mob)

And note: I still use correct staff for enfeebles on my macros lol cause I don't actually care enough to figure out enfeebles exactly.
