morrigan's robe on quetz.

Stating you can't get eva skillups from being hit is wrong though ;).

Anyway less of the derailing and more drooling over Salvage equipment.
Yes, because stating one wrong fact makes everything you say past that point incorrect.

Maybe I should make a topic explaining tips on how to argue *well*. Knowing what you're talking about is only part of it, reading and understanding the replies of others is another part (about which pchan has demonstrated a need for major practice - that whole Chainspell Raise argument was, after all, the result of a pretty big misreading on his part). Another key thing is admitting when you're either flat-out wrong, or you misunderstood, or you were working on partial and/or incorrect basis of information.

(Way too many people take "stick to your guns" *far* too literally when arguing, it has to be tempered by open-mindedness. If you believe you're right you should stick to your guns of course. But you should also keep an open mind to other arguments and actually listen to (or read, whatever) and think about them, and if they convince you that you're no longer right, it's time to abandon those guns and bow out of your position graciously. Or at least adjust it with provisional stuff like "if" statements. Rather than look like an idiot by repeating the same stuff over and over in absolute blanket statements.)

Yep that would be nice.

Slightly off topic but does that mean Ath's pretty much quit? (I don't see him around anymore) or does he just turn up on BRD/NIN/SAM/PLD/WAR/INSERTWHATEVEROTHERJOBHE'SLEVELLEDTO75INAWEEK.

He's usually on BRD due to him pretty much being the only BRD as our 2 other BRDS go RDM and BLM respectively. We have a total of 4 BRD's, 2 of them go RDM and BLM, 2 of them go BRD, in BLM and tank party. On the other hand, not counting Athi, we have 1 RNG, but he go as PLD.

No, but it *does* make everything you say past that point a bit more suspect. Ya know, the whole "credibility" concern and all. Best way to compensate for this and maintain credibility, is to admit your errors when you're actually wrong.

Sounds counterintuitive, but it leads people to assume that if you *are* wrong, you'll acknowledge it once proven wrong, and if you haven't acknowledged it, then you're probably right. (Also demonstrates that you're not so egotistical as to assume you're infallible.) Whereas if you don't do it, then anything you say could be either right or wrong-but-won't-admit-it.

I still have my screenshot of GTC wipe in Sandy with Ath being the lone person alive (albeit for about 5 seconds). Brings back memories.

More lessons in social skills!

You shouldn't dig for small things to argue about just because you dislike a person, and get your judgement so clouded with anger and hatred that you'll comment on every little thing and actively look for errors that people make. Like, say, the community do against Pchan, Hellstorm, Mdkuser etc.

I won't name names, but I know A LOT of people that don't admit when they're wrong. But I'm still not questioning everythign they write and actively seek out every little error in everythign they post. And if I can't find an error, I sure as hell don't twist their entire post or grammar in to my own likening just to be able to point out errors that aren't really there.

uzor just likes to argue, whether the actual material he is arguing about is wrong or right. he pretty much has already stated this before, so you are more than likely wasting your finger energy.

errors that aren't really there

The irony of that bit in this topic amused me. :P (EDIT: And wow this was a long post. Oh well, I'm on lunch break anyway.)

I agree with you in general. I don't think something Hellstorm or Pchan or anyone says is wrong *just* because it comes from that person. However, past history *does* lead me to take even things they claim as factual, with significantly more salt than from other people (after all, if they goof on one fact and don't correct themselves, what assurance do I have that the rest of their facts are any more solid?). And it also leads me to examine their logic more closely to see if it actually makes sense.

And no, I don't think most people *do* admit when they're wrong (although if it's something really blatant and really obvious, it's pretty damn dumb *not* to admit your error). But that's not so much because they *shouldn't* but because most people arguing on the internet are not, shocker of shockers, very mature and reasonable arguers. So it's not so much that I expect people to admit their errors, as it is that I am pleasantly surprised and very impressed if they do.

I agree that you shouldn't write something off just because of who says it, but I don't think you should simply ignore their history either and give them the benefit of the doubt as a potentially capable arguer, if they've demonstrated repeatedly in the past that they are *not*. (There's a limit to how far benefit of the doubt will take someone.)

When I'm arguing, my goal is not to be *nice*. My goal is not to *care* about people and *value* their opinion and stroke their ego and make them feel like what they're saying is oh so very *meaningful*. I'll leave that to their mothers. My goal is simply a competition of arguments: factual basis + logical reasoning => meaningful conclusion.

If their facts include things I had not known, then I incorporate that into my view and possibly change my conclusion. If their reasoning makes more straightforward sense than my reasoning, then I acknowledge that and again, possibly change my conclusion. And I expect others to do the same upon hearing my argument, so that once all the facts are known to both sides, and once all the reasoning is known to both sides, then both conclusions will be the same. Or at least both sides will acknowledge that the other has a valid conclusion that they happen to disagree with as a matter of opinion. (Depends, really, on whether the conclusion is itself factual or opinionated.)

If someone is illogical, I will say so, to shoot them down. If someone has their facts wrong, I will say so, to shoot them down. It will accomplish nothing to *weaken* my argument by incorporating theirs to try to reach a shared conclusion, if theirs is based on inaccurate "facts" or logical fallacies rendering their conclusion meaningless.

They can be the sweetest nicest person in the world whose feelings nobody would want to hurt (although it's certainly more fun to shoot them down, if they're an unlikeable asshole), it doesn't matter. If they get their feelings hurt because of their own fault, well ... it's their own fault. I may be sympathetic to their intentions, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna pretend their argument is a good one if it's not.

The only thing reputation of past arguments affects, really, is an indicator of how likely their argument is to be worthwhile before I read it. And as an indicator of whether I should maybe double check their facts or closely scrutinize their logic. (This is why I actually respond to Hellstorm's points - much though they usually hurt my brain - rather than simply saying "Hellstorm, your argument sucks" even though that often ends up being my conclusion.)

he said yesterday he was 27/36 so im assumming he has 6 75 jobs only ;

This doesnt change the fact that we should still be using a rdm's chainspell for the first extension for a few reasons: 1.sac pulling it takes too much time (5mn at least), 2.having a rng or sam do it would require me to actually teach him how where etc to do it (10min at least), 3. we will not attempt DL anytime soon, 4. even if we attempt it chainspell will be ready for him, cause dynamis lasts 3:30.

and uzor you forgot killuanl which has 75 rng as well :p

75? I thought he was 67 <.<

And Neo, quite a few more than me like arguing on qcdn. They might not want to admit it, but they enjoy it aswell. Otherwise they wouldn't constantly argue with me, and seek out things to argue about. :p

Hey man, I understand using a RDM for that extension -could- be usefull. However, I see way too many other options before using Chainspell.

Considering Xarcabard requires a larger amount of BLM than the Glacier/Towns, wouldn't one or two BLM be able to nuke that stone? Surely, that must be better than wasting Chainspell. I've never seen that extension cleared by BLM before, so I can't say how well it would work.

I just find it very strange that Chainspell should be used for that extension, whether you're farming or going for the win.

Actually, Xarcabard is the one zone you don't need any BLMes at all in. Eyes can be easily killed safely by melees onry with 24 people, and all stones in Xarcabard are actually weak to melee and have close to 0 evasion. That's why RNG killing it works so well. We've farmed it before succesfully with only 2 BLMes

So what's the "way too many options"? The fastest and most reliable one, not counting a RNG, is to chainspell nuke it when you have 24 people and 2 BLMes.

Edit: You don't need BLMes in any zone. However, they are more usefull, especially in Beaucedine where all stones are strong to melee. In cities, however, its random. Some are weak, some are strong, and it all depends on the eye color.

I also think that the Blm idea would be a it more practicle. Having a couple blms cast *insert high level spell here* on it would save the 2Hr and it would be a bit more practicle, at least in my eyes.

You could probably have 2 BLMes kill it with 2 AM2 spells, yes, but unless you're going for the boss, you don't need your 2-hours for anything. Hell, we rarely ever wipe in Xarcabard. We do get occasionall deaths, but that happends in all shells. We rarely have mass deaths either. We can keep pulling while the WHMes cast R2 and R3. The BLMes, RDMes, SMN's etc. can also help casting Raise if more then 4 people are dead, which rarely happends in a shell with 24 people anyway. And in all honesty, wasiting Chainspell to raise 5 people, when 2 WHMes could do the same in less then a min is beyond useless...

Besides, you'll still have atleast 1 RDM less to chainspell raise if things do go bad. And if you wipe more then twice during a run, you might aswell disband your shell, unless you're new. Hell, once is bad enough.

In order to be at casting range u need to get close enough and the eyes aggro u. So one/2 blm cannot do it. One BLm can do it if a THF do a suicide pull, but a rdm could also do (w/o 2H) it since extension stones are weak anyway. This save a 2H but doesn't save you time.

So how does a rdm do this much more effictively if you still have to agro the stones still?

If you read his post, you'll see that he mentioned THF suicide pulling it and then nuking it.

Or you could chainspell and kill it in 10 sec tops.
