Idiot got what she deserved.
There are places in NY where if I were to be flashed by a local cop while driving, that I would slow/hazards/continue driving until I got to a State Police or other county officer rather than pull over. I have been pulled over once
by an unmarked car, and I forced him to follow me 10 miles to a lighted public area, and wanted identification before I'd open the window - and was praised for it by the cop - but contrary to the cop love fest going on in some of this thread you can't assume just because someone is police that youre not in danger from them. Sorry.
They may be charged with upholding the law, but around here theyve also been charged with sodomizing people in their cells, stealing and using confiscated drugs, stealing money, kidnapping a guy off his porch and dropping him in the far rural backwoods on a gravel road and taking his shoes with them, several accidental deaths, and a public body cavity search of a woman pulled over for driving an out of state rental. I'll pass thanks.
And those are the cops that we should be throwing up on websites to chastise instead of stupid situations like the jaywalking one.

also re: earlier in the thread, the police couldnt have asked for or identified themselves, and asked for zaltana's identification (or asked his name) before throwing him to the ground and cuffing him? I dont understand the bit where it was necessary in the process of identifying someone you have a warrant on to throw anyone in the immediate vicinity to the ground and cuff them before asking their name.

And your average citizen does far worse, more often. It's not that all cops are paragons of virtue, it's that the actual percentage of bad cops is extremely tiny. Take precautions? Sure. Automatically assume that all cops are bad and out to get you? Why? I've never had a single negative experience with a law enforcement officer. Not one. And I'd wager that most of the people in this thread who are antagonistic to the police haven't either, or wouldn't have if their attitudes hadn't gotten in the way.
That did look kinda painful actually lol.
I'm glad your experiences with police have all been positive and that you've never had reason to believe a cop was in a pissy mood or just looking for a fight or eager to flex his authoritarian muscles because someone didn't take his badge as seriously as he thought he was due.
All I'm getting from your posts is that you've had a bad experience with police in the past, and this is tainting your opinion of this (and probably other) incidents involving police officers. Perhaps if you turned your own logic on yourself, you might realise that, while you infer that people have only had good experience with cops so they don't think they can do any wrong, your bad experiences are skewing your impartiality.
You are correct that I've had a bad experience. I've also had many good experiences. When these threads come up in which a cop used questionable judgment, people are quick to rush to their defense in a way I sometimes find troublesome because I don't think police should just be able to do anything they want for sake of compliance. The good cops rarely get featured on discussion boards. I still think this particular cop was a moron, but we can Agree To Disagree™ on that one.
