RDM/NIN epidemic and shitty gear

Slightly off topic, but I was in a party with a JP BRD who was anonymous. When the party started, he began to cast shadows and fight. All I can say was that I was extremely confused by a BRD/NIN. Do people actually do this...?
 
I find it amusing that you think RDM/NIN is too expensive for "alot of us". I'm sure you're Mr. Gilbags in-game and all, but there's plenty more expensive jobs out there than RDM/NIN.

Admittedly, I'm still trying to figure out what he means by the job being "too expensive". The most expensive things I can think of for the job are a few of the HQ elemental staves, should you choose to get them (and only 3 or 4 of them have any major use for RDM) and maybe Penitent's Rope. Which really, those aren't all that expensive at all.


Gotta agree though, far too many people are using BS gear and flat-out playing their job horribly. Sipahi Jawshan can look cute but it really is the worst gear to ever come out in this game, and seeing at least 1 in 4 melee using it just makes me cry. At least Jaridah has some damned att/acc for god's sake...
 
Hey, don't diss on the mighty power of ENTHUDNAR. I go WAR/RDM to everything just so I can hear the almighty awesomeness of lightning as I swing my mighty sword across my foe's face.

that's actually pretty simple.
brds pulll. very fast if the party is good. They sub nin so that they dont have to waste time with stoneskin and blink ect. it's not really supposed to be that good until ni levels though. Basically it just saves mp for the healers as well. Certain things like colibri can wreck a brd/whm that's pulling.

Ah okay. This is my first job passed 30 so I hadn't really experienced anything like that yet. I guess I was just really thrown off because we had a THF/NIN puller, and the BRD was anonymous...and wearing level 1 RSE...
 
Bluh, Added: Also because he was a melee BRD, which I have seen is a no-no after the Jamesy thread.
 
Jobs that should not melee in exp parties: RDM, BLM, BRD, WHM, SMN.

If everyone is so leet that they don't need you to cast anything and you have all this free melee time... then you should be replaced with a real DD :O

well you see enthunder doesn't last long enough for a war to use an axe, too long of a delay between swings and misses :wink:

60 BRD.

Adding to this thread (kind of), I've never seen a SMN NOT want to do his/her job ever. I swear, Was in a PT with a SMN (20-22 range, Yea I know alot of newbs around that lvl) who claims he had 75's. SMN said that SMN's aren't main healers and that they are DD's (maybe in some cases but not this). Not to mention we didn't have a WHM or any other job that could Cure except a PLD who had to cure himself in PT and SMN was only one able to cure. So he decides to Summon Ifrit almost every battle (using the excuse of saying he needed to SKillup during battle) and curing very little so that Hate had to be passed around so that the rest could all live longer.

idk about you guys but if you have a 75 BLM and WHM, your bound to have stumbled upon the SMN being Main healer thing at least once.

ugh idk anymore :-/...
 
Damn no edit!.

I meant in the last part that he should have at least known to be a Main healer in PT without a WHM but instead he goes on and Summons during battle leaving people to die. :-/
 
Most of my lvls on SMN were done as a main healer.
 
When levelling my SMN sub, I was main healer about 70% of the time. The rest of the time I shared healing duties with another mage (RDM + SMN was my favorite combo: both can do 50% healing responsibility without breaking a sweat and still have time for all the other stuff they want to do).

Never did I have a party where all there was for me to do, was use my avatars. Nor should I have: such a party would have, frankly, been better off without me, since it would've already been fine on healing. If a SMN's *only* role in a party is to DD (well, pre 65/70 anyway), other jobs can do that much more effectively.

Note, for what it's worth, that this was before BPs were split into Rage and Ward. I haven't played SMN again since that change.
 
Once you hit 70 Smn you can become a DD. In my Pts I do a good 20-40% Dmg per Mob. That's pretty decent IMO. But anything before that just shut up, heal, and be lucky someone invited you.

You can do all the predator claws you want, but that 20-40% on a mob is really nothing. Your melees would probably much rather have an AoE stoneskin or the acc fen buff (maybe). Shut up, heal, and be happy someone invited you. :biggrin:
