Please give me your reasoning for yes or no after you vote. YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED ONE POST ON THIS THREAD. I do not want arguing or anything like that. I want clear reasons why it should stay or why it should go.

to me it appears to be nothing more than a popularity contest, and what good it accomplishes usually does not clearly outweigh the infrequent but serious problems that arise from harassment through abuse of the system. as i've said, it's cute but it seems to be causing a ruckus, and perhaps your final idea was the best.

There is nothing wrong with the system as-is, which many people enjoy. Any problems can be immediately handled using the ignore feature, and any severe problems such as extreme personal jabs can be handled with case-by-case moderation.

Additionally, I am against any steps that would lead QCDN in a direction toward becoming any sort of Sculli paradise or site similar to ShinraOnline.

On the whole, the reputation system is something that most people enjoy having. Yes, there are a few people who abuse it, but measures have been put in to alleviate problems with this. If necessary, people who continue to abuse it should be punished just as if they were harassing via PM or the board itself. Taking down the reputation system completely would be allowing those people who can't live in harmony with the rest of us to win.

if i had to choose one way or another, I'd back what I originally said and do away with the rep system. Too many people would be banned or punished one way or another based on what was said on the rating system(myself included)

Personally if it stays up a more strict rep system needs to be implemented so that people cant just place what they feel is (lawl) on a rate down, or in that matter a (lawl) rate up.

I do both, which might not help matters, but i guarantee that like Miros said 90% of all others do it as well... Myself, I could list 10-15 people that have done it or harass me on the rate downs. Easily speaking that 1-2 of the above posters would be in that list.

Overall, I am seriously on the fence about the entire rate down/up system... However it would cause more solutions and a much easier fix to do away with it as a whole.

No.

It's a stupid idea to remove it when the only people who want it gone are those who are either not participating or are having to show their shitty rep. We shouldn't cater to the minority at the expense of the majority when the minority isn't being harmed.

It's still got some legitimate purpose, the amount of actual "problems" are few and far between, and are over-exaggerated by those few who want the system gone. Actually moderating it or punishing those few who are actually abusing the system would be a far better option. Hell, even the ignore feature which has already been added completely removes any symptoms of the problem; people should just have some accountability.

There is almost no real problem here, and what little problem there is could be easily dealt with, without removing the entire system.

The system is fine, and being able to ignore people now you don't need to remove it.
Moderate or punish those who are using it for real life insults and whatnot.

I don't think it should go, for the sole reason that it is what it is, at its core: a way for people to congratulate good, well-thought, funny, informative, or otherwise agreeable posts, and to "thumb-down" bad, uninformative posts, as well as flamebaits, generally stupid posts, or posts that are insulting.

However, the bad side is its use as a tool of vindication. I don't feel that anyone who uses the Rep System as a way to take cheap shots another poster has any right to be a part of the boards, let alone to participate in the use of the Reputation System. That's abuse.

As for friends continually rating friends up and down, it happens. So what. Sooner or later, on that very same course, everyone will have Moogles and green bars and it will really be a better gauge of who is either more informative, funnier, civil, or thoughtful than others.

From what I've seen, it's not hard to recover from red-dots, unless you're CmdrFly.

If it can't be moderated for abuse of the system then yes it should be removed. Or do what jyak said.

Bottom line is, there are people who use it as it was intended and don't abuse it. Sometimes agreeing with someone or expressing support doesn't require a full post. And some people ~gasp~ have actually earned the rep they have, good and bad. Some of the most warm, surprising, and genuinely memorable comments I have received have been things people said to me in confidence through the rep system, where people could say things without fear of being mocked or attacked. It should stay because people need to stop playing victim and authoritarian and just be adults and take responsibilty for what they post and how they act. Make people accountable for what they say. QCDN has mods for every forum under the sun, and a report function. So get a mod to investigate if someone feels they are so damn bad done to. Have consequences for people who harass someone. Make the rules clear and stick by them. There is an ignore feature... you tell me why the people crying the hardest about all this aren't using it. You don't like what someone has to say? You ignore them. You don't get to see what they say. Problem solved.

It should stay because it's pretty much political crap when the few choose for the many.

Remove it.

Its nothing but a big circle jerk. Friends rate up friends, foes rate down foes.

Although it's nice and I do like being able to rate people up for informative posts, I think it's a popularity contest. If there was an honest, true way to only rate people up for iinformative posts instead of "lol ur kewl i am going 2 rate u up", then I would lean more towards keeping it.

I've gotten rate downs for simply stating my opposing opinion and I don't think that's very fair.

Maybe we can rate down specific posts instead of people? I'm just throwing this out as an idea. And after it reaches a certain negative #, it is automatically hidden, like Youtube?

Yes.

IMHO, it is nothing more than an e-peen contest that causes more drama that it is worth, as seen from both sides of the issue for a long time in many threads.

My exact reason also

i want it . i think its fun and i like giving kudos when deserved.
i never rated anyone down i had my own ignoresystem before the mods implemented one. its call read stupid post say "what a dickhead" and move on to the more informative and funny posts.
i dont understand all the butt hurt when someone rates you down because they dont agree with what you posted stop taking all so personal this is qcdn not real life

How shocking.

Just leave it be. People who bitch and complain need to realize it is a fucking internet forum.

This.

I've already given tons of reasons in the other thread too, so I'll go just go with this here.

Don't remove it. Moderate it. If you can't moderate it correctly, remove it.

The problem here is someone needs to grow a spine. Which side it is, determines the outcome, and ultimately the fate of the reputation system as a whole.

Funny enough despite my dislike of how the ratings system is abused by a few people, I feel it should stay provisionally.

Reduce the actual rate downs/ups to simple dots with no commentary beside them, or a happy face and a bleh face if people want to be somewhat amusing about it.

Its very easy to say ignore things and hide them, that doesnt solve anything really, hiding the problem at hand is not fixing it. Being a member of a forum is like being invited to a house party, start acting like a jackass and spilling beer all over the furniture and expect to be removed.
