Requiem for a Flameboard

But why did it overshadow other forums, or leak into them?

It was allowed to happen. Mods didn't enforce the way they should have. Why not leave the FB for what it was, and have the Mods get off their couches to do what Mods are supposed to do?

I know a lot of threads were moderated, but far too many non-FB threads were never moderated as they should have been. In my time Modding QMG Forum, I was quick to delete flames, move threads, whatever. I'm nto saying I did a perfect job at all, and I do recognize that most other forums are busier, but more needed to be done...And that never happened.

I know I for one have done my best to keep the sections I manage under control, a major problem was the negativity fromt he flameboard was spilling into other sections. Flames were removed and warnings were given out. However that being said a post doesn't have to be a 'flame' to be extremely negative. This is how the flameboard became a problem. Being the most popular section of the board it was attracting a lot of people who only came here because of it. Someone making a negative comment doesn't constitute as a move/delete for a whole thread. A lot of threads teeter on the edge of being discussion/flames and this is where the problem lies.

I remember when the Good times and GD were the prominent visited boards - we never had these problems because what was attracting people to the boards was positive energy. QCDN was known for it's organization of events, helping people out, funny jokes and great stories - not it's flameboard. It tended to attract people who wanted to do the same. Hell I consider myself to put a pretty decent effort into being positive and back then I was a very active member of the FB, because it was real conflict with at least an effort for resolution.

As mentioned before I'm not talking about little "F you's" creeping into other sections, I'm talking about the general mental health of the QCDN community which has become overrun but drama and name calling.

Before I leave work here and drive on home, I figure I'd make on closing statement. This argument is going no where because the flameboard is not coming back. Rather than spend our time bitching to eachother, why not decide to get along and just work together? There's life after the FB for some of you. IE: You could always have a positive outlook and just talk with others. It's nice to talk and enjoy talking with others.

The advantages over disadvantages were far less.It was hurting the progress of the NA community on quetzelcoatl by a considerable amount. On top of that it was pretty much the home of a type of people who just play the game just to point and laugh at new players, giving people a hard time and an and all internet gangsters who think its right to gang up on someone.Yea many people stayed cuz of the FB but many left also.Only thing is people would now get away with lots of stuff and in some instances one individual won't be able to share his side of the story.

Mods won't have to work as hard keeping a tumor contained if there is no tumor there. Contain the flameboard mentality or excise it. Surgery's easier than management.

I feel like the flameboard was deleted because of the opinions of people that dont belong to qcdn. I mean I heard reasons like:
"There is an entire LS that doesn't want their members on qcdn."
"People on other boards hate qcdn." (so what? we hate allkazham for different reasons)

I mean seriously, who's opinion is more important?

edit: also, do you think deleting the FB is going to get them to come here?

Better be sure you know the answer to that question before you ask it out in the open. I don't pretend to even hope to think that admin is on my side, but he sure as heck doesn't appear to be on that of people who just love to get their flame on.

Im pretty sure as far as most questions go- you ask it expecting an answer...

I think for one of the first times, I agree with you WSM. XD

I gotta say that i'm on the side of folks who are glad that the FB is gone. The FB never bothered me so much as to leave QCDN all together, I just usally avoided. Sure, there were some good things that came out of the FB, but for me, there was more bad than good.

Once the folks who always got away with being being down right leave, I'm sure life will be all the sweeter for QCDN. And now, with the FB gone, there is a better chance for Sculli to get more sponsers I would assume?

This is a very interesting point.

I'm pretty sure that sponsors dont really care whats posted there- they care about how many users there are and how many people visit the page/post. Didn't we already agree that thats going down?

Some do. I've known several boards that have lost sponsors/Adsense due to 'inappropriate content' so it's not all that out of the ordinary.

Sponsors very much care. You see a bunch of teens flaming each other like tazmanian devils and you see the word Coca-Cola there, there's an association that the advertizers don't want.

"Flaming someone while failing the English language and throwing retard around like it's funny? Have a COKE!"
No.

sculli has even posted that sponsors have turned him down because of the "content" of the boards.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to look good to advertisers. When you look good to them, you look good to the people QCDN wants around. Addicts look good to drug dealers, and they stock their corners with them. Doesn't change the fact that no matter how much solidarity they have they still make their streets look like trash. There is an absolute, and QCDN's image is on the low-end. Like it? Well pig-rolling will still be low-end no matter how many do it.

No, there isn't. There's nothing wrong with cleaning up the site so advertisers/potential buyers will be interested in what you have to sell.

What's wrong, or at the very least, shady, is when you're cleaning up the site under the guise of being 'kinder, friendlier' when you're really doing it to make yourself more money. Which is Sculli's right, of course, but if this is the case, say that outright instead of throwing up smoke screens.

If the Flameboard had to go so money could be made, fine. But say that.

The people QCDN wanted around were the players on Quetzalcoatl. Taking away something that people wanted, as is obvious by the extent of it's use, without any attempts to fix it isn't an improvement. It's not like after over 2 years QCDN realized it didn't have the right people so it's changing.

If that was his only reason, he wouldn't have succumbed. How many times does he have to say that QCDN will not cater to lynch mobs, no-contenters, petty cheap grudging vindictive flamers with too much memory and not enough talent to make use of it, popularity contests, and endgame superiority mentality before you start attaching his decisions to his primary motives instead of something minor?

If you don't have faith enough in admin to listen to what he's been saying, and then to put all your money into the lowest reason that can be percieved for his actions...then you put your eggs into the wrong basket in the first place and should have stayed KI.
