The Treasure Hunter skill & You:

You guys, as someone posted, are talking about things with horrible drop rates. Archers Ring will always be incredibly low. If it dropped 50% of the time with TH2, the damn things would be near free. Go and test it out on normal shit.

For example, go and kill bees. I have heard people say they killed 20+ bees before one beehive chip dropped. Then throw on TH, you get a noticeable increase. Then throw on TH2, massive increase. You will get stacks of stuff more than you would without it.

If someone killed a NM 100 times with TH2, and 100 times without it, then youd have hard info. If Phraust went through and killed JEJ another 100 times with his TH2, im sure we would see a few more Charms on top of that 1. He wouldnt be 50/100 though, as a level 12 NM in a starting area wont drop such a valuable item like its candy after all.

Things may also be based on level. Take spook for example ("but its not a NM!!!!1" stfu). I am like 3/40 on him. I am a level 50 Thief and have always been a lot higher than his 20 or so levels. Now when a I hear someone who is level 25 state their drop record (8/15, 10/17, etc.) leads me to believe this might play a role. Makes sense anyways...

Damn shut up about Vangs boots. Like it really matters. Hes still got more money than most of us will ever have, and it just keeps going up...bastard.

i was talking to this thf, and he told me TH = +5% EX Items and +10% Rare/Ex items.... and like 7.5 normal items while TH doubles for rare/ex only. and ppl keep gettn it confused TH+1 (is TH+1, so tis the +1 lv.15 ability, not the TH @ 45...) so my speculation is that the TH+1 is really boosting up the lv.15 trait, and the TH2 is totally different, have dufferent rate for types of items, but of corse it cant be really tested becuase u cant deactivate traits..

anyway i was told this by a thf, wonder if its correct >.>

There are different theories about how it works, but the bottom line is still "more = more".

With every TH bonus the drop rates increase. I have noticed this, especially if I attempt farming or killing an NM with another job.

This is an RPG. Since we don't have physical dice, there is some sort of equation for everything. More power to the dorks that want to figure out exactly what those formulas are. I definitely have faith that the TH ability does what it claims, and that it stacks.

Want more drops? You can possess this ability for yourself...Hence, quit the bitching.

I haven't read this whole post but all I gotta say is this...

Anyone can camp a NM, this "don't camp an NM because you dont have TH" is bullshit. Thats just an excuse to lower the competition. Thats kinda like saying "Dont camp NMs unless its a Full Moon and Darksday." THFs who say this shit shouldn't camp NMs unless they have a Thieve's Knife and AF2 arms. Makes no sense.

I have friends without TH who have a better drop rate on some NM's than I do. I have a great drop rate on some NM's and a horrible record on others. TH isn't god, actually I think it sucks most of the time.

I don't know where people are pulling numbers from but it's pretty easy to understand the concept of more drops. I didn't really care about getting involved in this post the first few pages until it derailed. Now it's a stupid debate of if TH2 even matters? This is something people make up in their heads so they feel better they're when they get shitty drop rates or have no thief friends.

Hey whitemages, you're mnd bonus trait only works vs some spells. Blms magic attack up doesn't help against certain enemies. Drks, arcane circle/attack + are just theory, they don't do anything. Anyone else see the stupidness in this arguement?

More chances of drop=more chances of drop.

There are tons of facters outside TH regarding drop rates so it's a moot arguement. Moon phase, day of week, type of enemy and their aligned day of week, member(s) in party/alliance, rolls, and level of people - yourself/party/alliance to name a few factors that show good evidence and have backing in tests/experience.

When I think about it, I'd probably agree with Phraust in his theory of how TH/TH2 works. The sole reason I agree with this is normally when I obtain good items or a key drops on a coffer hunt there were normally 2-4 drops instead of just 1. The chance of very rare items such as coffer keys dropping when only one item dropped has been less to me compared to that of of the chance of a rarer item when 2-4 items have dropped. And since drops don't repeat( or if they do it's extermely rare or uncommon for most enemies except stuff like rabbit hides ) except crystals( Which seem to follow their own rules ), the moment more than 1 item drops, the chance for the rare drop increases dramactically. If phraust's theory is correct it'd be something like this.

If drop roll goes through

Item A-40%
Item B-30%
Item C-20%
Item D-10%

Lets say the roll for drop after thh kill landed twice. So there will be 2 drops off one kill, and Item A(40%) drops first. So now it's 100-40=60.
The chance for drop D just went from 1/10 to 1/6 because of more drops.

I believe in this theory because alot of the rarer items I've obtained have been when the enemy dropped the max allowed items.

When I got mary's horn, I got 2 rolls of drop, so milk came first but I got horn as the next roll.

I've helped friends killed mysticmaker before a few times, both times he dropped he dropped a total of 4 items.

I've helped on dozens of coffer hunts, easily over half the drops came when the drop roll was greater than 1.

I've gotten about 8-10 dodge earrings ever, 70-80% of those drops were either on my first/2nd kill or when the target mob dropped 2 items.

I can provide more examples but they'd be of plain old enemies with little importence. Such as gobb hunting, if I manage to get 2 drop rolls, I'll automatically get a tree cutting.

And that's what I believe TH2 does, increases chance for drop roll(s) therefore increasing overall chances. My belief is part guess of course and phraust came up with it, but the few million I have in gear ALL come from farming/killing, not crafting or anything, so I have hours and hours and hours and some more hours of experience that I'm basing my beliefs on.

multipliers people, multipliers. computers compute using equations (read alogrithims). TH is a multiplier stat.

Ha ha Firestreak thats funny.... Oh wait the silk thread prices are fucked up... Huh... Go figure...

Last November paying 9k a stack for silk thread was uncommon because that was considered price gouging...

At least they have come down from 24k to 20-19k, I never put them up for more than 20k at that time because it was retarded.

But hey, my BC is level 23.2 and I have to pay 24k a stack for beetle jaws lol.

Sell Silk, buy Jaws.

Treasure Hunter increases drops, your friend was just 'lucky'. It's bad enough people camp NM that provide items only 1-2 jobs need for money, but when they camp something with a couple hour spawn time and have NO treasure hunter it's just stupid.

If you can get a job up to fifty or higher to camp a NM you can sure as hell level thief to fifteen. It's not hard, hell you cna a friend could pl each other.

Let me tell u something. My thf is 46 and i stopped using it to camp NMs for a while cuz it took me long time to kill the place holders.TH does make a difference but drop rate is x out of 100 right? so unless u are going to kill an NM 100 times its possible u still might be 0/50 with th 2.... I still get more fangs and cuttings on my war/nin than i got on my thief or war/thf... .. .I know a drk who got the archer's ring on his first kill and he wasn't subbing thf.Its all about luck unless u are farming and then it comes down to drop rate and the rate at which u are killing the mobs.

Went down to ordelles one day . 2/2 Ring. Next day 3 rings in about 2 hours. Lets see the drk do that...

it is always helpful to have a thf. SE has repeately stated that Th and TH2 increase the rate of all drops. dont believe me? easy examples are coffer keys and testies. the difference in drop rate on those are just insane with th2 and without it. there are so many thfs around, it is always more beneficial to have a thf come. TH2 more then doubles your chance to get drops, so splitting the loot one more way even if there's just two of you makes it worth it.

Ok well i read through about 8 pages of this post and it all seems to be the same things said over and over. Phraust, i must agree with you 100% People need to QUIT BITCHING! While hunting the Leaping Lizzie (because i am a 45 thief and needed them) a group of 3, a nin/war, whm/blm, and a 20thief/1 ranger. Ok so this theif has Th1. Well after im camping it for about an hour, the ninja vokes the lizzie. They dont get the drop. Then suddenly i see the thief shouting "OMFG WTF THAT IS IT! IM FUCKING DONE CAMPING THIS SHIT! WE'VE KILLED IT 4 TIMES ALREADY!!" And the lizzie drop isnt even as rare as some of the NM's listed. Lucky me i got the drop the next pop :)

Anyways i think people are missing the point that all Phraust is saying is to STOP BITCHING about not getting a drop if you arent coming with Th2. Hes not saying you HAVE to level thief at all (although it would be in your best interest to do so). I also agree that the prices of the items would drop drastically if a thief with TH2 was brought along for the ride every time. Itd be interesting to see the hairpin back at its price it was a year ago.
