The worse RPGs?

Legend of Legaia II was pretty bad when compared to Legaia I.

The worst RPG I think I ever touched, however, had to be Vagrant Story.

Wait, they made a second one? <_< One was a blast.

no, I believe we all noticed, just none of us actually cared enough/we already understood/werent grammar nazi's about it.

FFVII is not that great a game... All it really did was introduce FF to the 3D world along with giving it a new system. Thats about it. The story of 7 is just like any other decent RPG, its nothing special.

Plus, Im tired of people hanging off of sephiroths balls, most of which are pseudo goth/emo/"crazy" kids.

Very much agree right here, especially on the Sephiroth part. Everyone thinks he is so amazing, but in the end, he was just a whiny bitch without his mommy. Kefka would wipe the floor with him any day. Kefka actually succeeded and basically blew up the world.

I actually like the Sephiroth in Crisis Core so much better. He was actually a good guy until the end and to me, it suited him so much better.

Anyways, as far as worst RPGs ever, I think its a tie between Lagoon and Beyond the Beyond.

FFVII had the coolest storyline plus it had no love story. I guess I should say minimal love story or someone will bitch at me, but it was practically absent. It also had the second best battle system and the best side quests of any other RPG I've played.

Oh and I don't hang off Sephiroth's balls, Cloud is much cooler. And before anyone brings it up the first FF I played was IX, not VII.

EDIT: Oh yeah, has anyone played Radiata Story or stories or something like that? I'd say FFVIII was worse but that game came in a close second. You might like it though if you're a twelve year old girl.

So, you can respect opinions as long as they agree with you? Nice.

My only complaint about blue dragon so far is the sheer number of stuff you can check gets a little annoying at times(I had 521 nothings the first time I talked to the nothing guy). It's rewarding as hell to check it all, so I don't mind that much, but that's the only thing that's bothered me about the game. What's so wrong about the game that you think that no one could possible consider it a decent game? You're sounding like that retard Firestreak who's spouting off how horrible the game is based on barely playing a non-representative demo.

I didn't go into blue dragon thinking it was going to be the greatest RPG ever. I went into it based on actual reviews(hint: "it's shit, never play it" is not an actual review), that say it's like an old school rpg. It doesn't do anything amazingly well, but there's nothing really wrong with it. Admittedly, I'm only on the second disc so far, but based on everyone's reactions I'd have quit the game a few hours in.

If you hate the game, that's fine; but give a reason why when you're trying to invalidate opposing opinions.

Well, I'll tell you why I didnt like it.

The Voice acting killed it for me completely. I absolutely hated Shu, and if I can't get into the "main character" it's hard for me to complete the game.

So for me Blue Dragon, 2nd disc Xenogears (omg boring), and Two Worlds.

Favorites: 1. FFIX 2. Morrowind. 3. NWN1-2. 4. KOTOR. 5. BG2/Icewindale2. 6. The Witcher

Hardly. I can respect with opinions that differ from mine perfectly well. But when someone has an outrageous opinion that i feel is my duty to disagree with, i do. I feel its my duty as a gamer to warn people about Blue Dragon.

Difference is that i actually wasted my time in giving it a chance rather than just oust it at the demo, which i really wish i had done. What else is bad? The character animations, the character voices, the characters themselves go pretty far out of their way to make me hate them. The boss music is awful, the fact that you have to dig through poop to get items after you kill an enemy wasn't really bad, but it sure wasn't a plus of the game. I could go on.

About 99% of the time i'm more than happy to say a game is worth playing, but not a buy, and i'll list bad things about it. Its that 1% that does it.

Games in that 1%:

Blue Dragon
7th Saga
Two Worlds (forgot this one, thanks chas)
Vampire Rain
Pretty much any non-shooter game on the Turbo Graphix
Sonic the Hedgehog (next gen version)
Viking
Extreme Sports with the Barenstine Bears (yes, this is a real game)
Most Superman games

Also, FF7 is the first game that made emo kids feel like they could do something, if *only* they had a big enough sword.

Its also the first game to have "angst" be a main quality in a main character.

FF7 is not a horrible RPG, it's just popular to dump on it because so many people consider it the epitome of RPG's. At the time it was incredible, but now it's fairly average; it's just receiving extra hate because it helped spawn the emo trend and because of it's rabid fanbase, most of which never played the much more timeless SNES RPG's. It's basically the halo of it's time.

A whole horrible series is SE's Saga series. Saga Frontier 1 and 2, and unlimited saga all sucked.

Yes I agree, I do not understand what everyone else is talking about is the basis for rpgs is to offer a new evriorment and to allow progression over time at your own pace making your characters stronger and allowing them to do more all saga front(friggin)tier offered was a blow to your ego from when you 1st start the game because once you lvl up all the mobs in the game gain a good 5 lvls over you making it hard to progress without fearing that you may verywell die in the next battle stripping the player of his confidence. IMO

mmm im having trouble with this one, in one sense its correct because when the emo trend started to flourish all these kids jumped on the Final Fantasy bandwagon cause all the gamers where into it and they wanted to be hip, i can guarantee on my life that 7/10 of these hipsters that put up a picture of cloud and says "we have so much in common" or puts "Final Fantacy" (i've seen it spelled that way before) in their likes, hasn't even played 7 or any of the games for that matter.

7 at the time was pushing the limits of playstation (lol) and i thought it was pretty damn amazing, with advent children and crisis core out now expanding on the story line i can say its my favorite story of the bunch next to 10

alot of the people i used to hang out with where and probably still are emo, i myself never thought that looking more like a female then actual females would benefit me, the only reason i hung around them i guess is cause they where into some of the music i was, i was the reason some of them got into FF, come to think of it one of them still has my copy of 7...thing you gotta remember about emo's is that if they think it will make them more scene or make them more popular on myspace...they will do it, i think the current hipster trend now is to like rap, next thing you know they will all be into that god awful ICP shit and the entire genre that atrocity spawned.

cloud was the original emo kid...only he didn't try (and fail) to kill himself just to get attention, he actually handled his shit

I think that latter part is a big part of the FF7 hatred. It's usually credited as the game to gain mainstream attention for RPGs, so the people who were playing them all along feel a certain amount of contempt for those enthusiastic puppy gamers who suddenly jumped on the bandwagon... sorta like a music snob sneering at someone's "Best of" compilation.

boldened why. 7's time has come and gone. This isnt to say its bad, its just old and not the game it once was

It's still the same game it always was, newer games don't detract from old games, they just add to them.

If you are implying games degrade over time, thats just dumb. Obviously something thats 10 years old isn't gonna match to newer games in graphic and shit, but just cuz its old doesn't mean its not good anymore.

QFT

games do degrade over time because so many new things pop up to make the older things look bad. I am not implying anything about graphics > gameplay or any of that crap. THATS dumb. I never said the game was bad, either.

But I did say its nothing special, and it isnt. It is the game thats known for bringing FF into the 3D world and introducing a new system. Theres really nothing at all special about 7 other than that

What exactly are you expecting a game to add? It added 3D and a new system but that's not enough for you? It also had a decent storyline and it was hellafun to play.

One thing they could have improved on. :P

Sorry maybe it's a difference in location but I don't remember there even being "emos" when that game came out or for years thereafter... We were preppies, stoners, skaters or dorks iirc. There was a touch of goth I guess but not really where I went to school. That game came out and was popular when I was in high school so I'm pretty sure I would have noticed all the emos, maybe people use the game for that now but that doesn't really reflect on the game I mean sheesh it came out over 10 years ago...

Meh it makes me think of the people that automatically don't like something if it's mainstream or popular. This is the type of person who automatically stops liking a band when they make the top 40. If a game (or whatever) is good then it's good. The type of people who like the game don't change its base qualities.

Wait, they made a second one? <_< One was a blast.

yes, was released onto PS2 called Legaia 2: Duel Saga

Games that blew to me...

Lufia, Shadow hearts 3, uh... not much else ... wait Azure's Dream (sp)

I never said the game wasnt fun, I never said it was bad. Ive said it two or three times, now, but no one seems to understand the simple english thats there.

Yes, it is a decent RPG, much like dozens of other RPGs out there.

What Im saying is Its nothing special, but a lot of people seem to think it is, like its some sort of godsend from heaven.

I think a more appropriate analogy would be a 'Best of' compilation that only includes their mediocre songs and none of their best. Because that's what FF7 is. It's a good game, but it's not the second coming of christ or anything. The only thing that's really exceptional about the game is the Materia system. The story and character development are so-so compared to 4-6. The graphics were good for their time, but you can say that about any of the FF's.

But anyway, this topic isn't to bitch about what FF isn't the best, or what good games you didn't personally like. No Final Fantasy is that bad that it needs to be compared to Unlimited SaGa, not even Mystic Quest. And no one's mentioned one of the worst titles to be put into the RPG genre yet.

Quest 64.

I didnt even play FF7 til after I played 8,9, and 10. FF9 was my favorite, but 7 was pretty damn close. It had nothing to do with sephy or cloud, I just liked the feel of the story and how it was played out. I also loved the Turks; they were the best side/funny bosses out of all the ff.

That's fine, but the only complaints you've listed are about the look/sound of the game; something that is 100% opinion, but that doesn't make the game "worst RPG ever." If all you hated was the look of the game, that's fine, but if there was nothing wrong with the mechanics or the gameplay, that's where the problem with you saying no one should ever like the game occurs.

I hated the look of windwaker, but that doesn't make it a shitty game, because the mechanics were solid. The game isn't shit, the presentation is just not your style. Graphics should never be the deciding factor in any game, there are a lot of games that look beautiful, but play like shit and games that look bland but play awesome.

Difference is that i actually wasted my time in giving it a chance rather than just oust it at the demo, which i really wish i had done. What else is bad? Again, nothing in there is about the mechanics of the game, just the look of it. So, if they had different voice actors/animations, you'd have no problem with it?

Did you try the Japanese voices too?

Not liking the cosmetics of a game is enough to not like the game, but it's not enough to say that no one should ever like the game when the cosmetics are your only problem. I'm not a huge fan of Akira Toriyama's style anymore since it never changes, and the running animations are just stupid; but that's not enough to prevent me from playing a fun RPG.

They might have been around(I hadn't seen any before that), but there was a definite upsurge after FF7 came out; it also served as a bit of a rallying point for them. Now they had a role model.

I didnt try the Japanese version. I was like 30 hours into the English version and I just didnt feel like going back through it. Hindsight, wish I would've.

I don't think its bad you like it though. I mean, I did put 30 hours into it; that counts for something right? lol
