PLD is not a gimp job /thwak..... I'll remember to bring up what you just said here should fate ever combine our paths in-game. I don't want NIN nerfed anyfurther, heck I could care less if when they nerfed NIN last time, I just think reguardless of how nin was & how it is now it is still where something positive needs to be done to PLD to make their parties obtain faster exp. I'm against nerfing altogether, once you give someone something & they have been paying to play for a long time, don't subtract just add.

As an addendum: this is only in an exp setting, endgame is completely different. Infact, in an endgame setting you can get rid of the two last categories completely, because they should just quit the game.

YESSSS! That was also said a million times. ^^

So you're admitting that pld is inferior to nin, in a exp pt perspective? If you're going to make pld equal to nin in exp pt, then you should make nin = pld in endgame. Which would then make nin "overpowered" again.

If you were to let me die being a mage that I am you would not be in that PT much longer. I am tellin you what I think would I got out of my way just to D2 you cause I perfer a NIN? NO I am not as childish as you.

There's no way in hell I acknowledge NIN as being a better tank. A slight imbalance of power (namely dualing utsusemi ninjitsus) has caused NIN to produce faster exp gain for exp parties, this alone is the only thing I recognize for a NIN. PLD is still the more hardcore tank. A tank's job is to defend & keep party members alive, not to produce fast exp like NIN does currently (although it is nice). Paladin tank better (remember I've just defined tanking...), NIN can just perform enough of the duties of a tank job & produce more exp in a shorter time frame. Since this thread is about PLD vs NIN for exp parties, it has been said several times now that it would be nice for SE to even the playing field when it comes to speed of exp gain between the 2 jobs by altering their abilities, traits or items.

And this is different from PLD = safer, NIN = faster, how exactly?

You've made your points 100 times, and your tangents are even entertained for the sake of "related" discussion. Why can't you just be happy that both jobs bring something to the table, but that thing is merely different? ...Not better or worse.

I don't think that is what's being argued. I think what's being argued is that they should make PLD as fast as NIN.

Wow, lotta anger in this thread.

Just my two cents:
When I'm teamed up with a good whm and rdm, there is no downtime.

Edit - You know what would be awsome... If they gave Pally's Phalax. That would speed up xp in Pally parties

The "hardcore" tank reference slays me. lol

I think, by context, Iso's definition of hardcore is the heavy armor, Flash, Cures, Cover, and take the hits style of PLD tanking. That's the style, the way PLD is played.

NIN, to me anyway, is more hardcore...
In the context that it is far more exciting to play as NIN (remember...for me). As PLD or NIN, you can't really let your guard down, but for NIN it's a bit more mission critical to always be on your A-game...Hence the bad NINs are spotted a mile away, while some piss poor PLDs can get away with voking and curing a little.
NIN is more hardcore...For the RL gamer. Despite all the lore that surrounds a job, NIN is simply a more exciting and "hardcore" experience for a gamer.

Two very different contexts of the use of hardcore. This discussion onry gets better.

Perhaps not now, but as the discussion gets away from us, I find it useful to bring back this tidbit. It's lost, but been said a million times in the past 20+ pages. :)

Paladins are good tanks. They are definately better in some endgame situations then ninjas. The questions is a simple one and is by no means bashing paladins.

What tank will you pick for your exp pt?

It is my understanding that people want the most possible experience per hour. Hell, you want the most experience per hour forget Paladin and Ninja and get yourself a few monks and hit KRT. However, if you want the most experience/merit per hour in a regular experience party then Ninja is far superior than Paladin as a tank for 2 very clear reasons. 1. You can eliminate a healing mage from the party and replace with another DD 2. Ninja as a tank far outdamages Paladin as a tank in any/every/all experience parties.

But lets all be realistic here. In building a party these days we are all hard pressed to find the ideal jobs all of the time. So I am glad that there is a choice between Ninja and Paladin out there. I can remember seeking on ranger quite a few times and not being able to find any tank let alone a Ninja.

If there was an abundance of jobs and I was able to build a party of my choice I would want 4x warriors(Olsmugla style) a bard a rdm and a whole lot of mobs to kill.

Ninja can, as you say, 'produce fast exp'. Paladin can, from your implications, produce faster and stronger hate. That means doesn't mean Ninja is worse than Paladin. All that means is that you can kill your target faster, harder, not necessarily tank any better. Certain mobs can be handled better with different tanks, this is known. Trying to continually push PLD to being superior is just your opinion, and for what you view is the purpose of tanking. That doesn't make everyone else wrong. It doesn't make you wrong either. Everything is too situational for you to really be right, or anyone else, when in fact in most cases, a proper party formation will make either tank work.

Seriously, don't try to use this. Don't say it. Without dual Utsusemi, Ninja would not be tanks. End of discussion, cry a river that a Ninja and a Paladin can both tank, and tank excessively well. But don't cry imbalance of power.

LOL open your eyes & read a little bit more people before you post! We are not talking about all other situations, we are talking about EXP, as far as exp is concerned yes PLD can use a boost to make things even for that aspect & that aspect alone...EXP!

Kyr said:
That is for another discussion, at another time, that has been done countless times. Trying to admit that Utsusemi is overpowered, and then claiming still that Paladin is better, seems a bit contradicting to me. If it's so imbalanced and powerful, why do you still believe that Paladin is still better than Ninja at tanking? Explain?

I claim & stand by that PLD is better at the original purpose of a tank; holding hate & defending.

Granted, don't take my post too direct or harsh, because I really don't mean it as such. I don't agree with a lot of people about their thoughts on Ninja either in this thread. I just know you, and as someone who respects you, thought I'd debate this point with you. Obviously, you're not going to change your opinion, but at least keep an open mind. You complain about other people not doing so, but I don't think you are either.

My mind is open, I just want to see everyone able to get exp equally as fast.

The "=" suggests just that EQUAL. I could care less if NIN was equal in end game as long as PLD was equal in gaining EXP.

There is a shield give give Phalax (what ever it spell) enchment, i could use that shield, turn that enchenment on and switch back to a better shield, but sadly, switch shield = Lose TP :P
