Lamest reason EVER to not vote. Who cares who will be deciding how Americans live for the next 4 years? I don't want to have a slight chance at jury duty!

Agreed. Besides, Jury Duty is a 'Get out of work' Free card!

Good thing I never have to worry about having jury duty.

I was voter #1 today! I honestly still wasn't sure who to vote for, even in the booth. It took like 5 mins for the presidential election (Bob Barr looked appealing...) and like 2 for the rest of the ballot (mainly because I knew how I was voting on the issues before I got there).

Well i voted my conscience today and got my vote in for bob barr. Hopefully more people did too.

well... i am 24 years old now and i have been called to jury duty 4 times.... so far.. i have managed to get out of everyone and i have appeared at every one.

Is it weird that I'm actually interested in Jury Duty?

Yes, being pulled out of whatever you would have been doing to sit through god knows how many hours of boring legalese isn't interesting at all.

Not to mention the compensation is disgustingly low. $15/day here in Baltimore County.

wow... we only get 5 dollars a day but your work is required to pay you still your normal pay for an 8hr day. (sucks if your self employed)

I still have friends that refuse to vote because they tie Jury Duty to voting registration.

For lack of a better word, that's retarded.

I stood in line to vote today.

I got there at 10:40am, EST.

At 1:40pm, I had a pizza delivered to me while i stood in line.

I listened to an elderly chap behind me rail on about how "maybe this rain will keep the Democrats away", "we're all getting good practice standing in line for a doctor when Obama wins", and "boy, that Obama sure scares me". It was at that point that I said to him:

"You're completely entitled to vote for whoever you want, be sure of that. But the rest of us don't care who you are voting for, who you think should win, please stop trying to spoil the surprise."

I got a sticker that says "I voted" after voting.

I got a free coffee from Starbucks for wearing my sticker.

I got back to work at 2:40pm EST.

Four hours; one sticker, one pizza, one two-liter Pepsi, one coffee and a new President later; it was all worth the long-ass line.

Anne Arundel County, MD. $5, and I get no pay from my own work. sucks to be me. -.-;; Jury duty costs me big money.

good story, have to say absentee voting made my life really easy though I didn't get a sticker ; ;

not voting because of jury duty is a really lame excuse.

I don't really see avoiding being part of one of the jury duty pools as retarded or a terrible reason not to vote. If that's the solitary reason one refuses to vote, then it's pretty petty, but it's a reason nonetheless. I have much less of an issue with those that don't vote versus the 95%+ of the population that do vote and don't really know what the hell for. If you don't vote and have any kind of a reason not to, I can respect that, and it's definitely your right not to.

As for waiting in line all day to cast a ballot, that sucks, imo, but I'm glad you had a good time at least. I went last Thursday right when they opened, waited for nothing, took maybe 2 minutes to cast my ballot and I was back to getting on with my life. The people that arrived just ten minutes later had to wait in a line out the door, into and up the stairs of the parking garage. That's ass. Listening to the type of people you mentioned, Tristam, doesn't do good things for me. I wouldn't debate much with the guy. I'd just tell him to shut his damn mouth so I don't have to shut it for him. People like that are little assholes that can't mind their own business. Wait in you line. Shut the fuck up. Cast your vote. Go home. Don't fucking talk to me about your opinions or anything else in the process. I'm glad someone can make light of that crap though...Pizza, soda and coffee ain't making up for 4+ hours of standing in a line and listening to shitheads, not for me.

I agree. Infact, I'll one up you Sneaky, since it pertains to this election specifically.

I have more respect for those that don't vote with a reason, than those that vote blindly.

I have more respect for those that vote blindly, over those that vote for petty reasons such as skin color or sex.

There is asbolutely no reason a person should be voting for or against Obama because he's black, but a lot of people are. As well, there is absolutely no reason people should be voting for McCain because OMG POSSIBLE FEM PRESIDENTS, and again, people are.

That’s what I don’t get. My dad votes but not every single time because sometimes, you don’t like either candidate and he doesn’t agree with voting for the lesser of two evils. I hear “you can’t complain if you don’t vote”, too often.

Shame Clinton and Obama were running under the same flag, would have been a fun election to watch if they were running against each other for opposite parties ;)

I'd agree with your Dad. Is it too much to ask for the leader of the free world to be an inspiration? I don't think so. Shit, we should look at the 2 main "finalists" and actually have a tough choice to make between two folks we are inspired by. More often than not, this doesn't happen. Not even close.

"You can't complain if you don't vote."

Oh hell yes you can.
Voting is a prerequisite for almost nothing at all.

Voting is only a prerequisite for the ability to not be able to complain if the person you voted for turned out to be a worthless sack of shit. After all, you helped put them in power.

So is that why i voted for Bob Barr? He wont win and therefore since i voted.... i get to complain!!! yay

You will probably get some people saying that you threw your vote away.
